Chapter Text

The closer Taehyung moved to the cabin situated directly in his line of sight, the more confused, disapproving, and borderline disgusted expressions met his eyes. No one uttered a word to him, keeping what would surely only be negative comments to themselves. No one dared go against him, much less against the pack Alpha.

Taehyung did as usual and ignored the pack’s clear disapproval as he marched on. Whatever they must have had in their minds, they were wrong. Sometimes, he wished things were easier. Sometimes, imagining an alternate universe where they’d accept the pack Alpha’s decisions and let him be was nice. Things would be different. Everyone would be happier. But life was hardly ever forgiving, and tribulations were what made one stronger.

So, with a broken heart, Taehyung reached the cabin’s porch, slowly easing himself up the stairs while biting back the groans threatening to leave his mouth. His muscles were sore, his back tired, but he refused to react under the scrutinizing eyes of those still loitering around to stare at him for as long as they possibly could. He dusted his clothes off of any remaining dirt before pausing to knock on the door. It was a courtesy more than anything else, making his way inside only a second later.

Once the door was closed behind him, he released a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. This wasn’t his home, but it was a sanctuary where Taehyung always found solace. Nothing - not even the strict, outdated rules the Elders worked around the clock to maintain - could change that.

The floor was cool to the touch of his bare feet. He made his way inside, confident enough to stride down the main hall until he veered off to a shorter, dark corridor. He moved almost soundlessly, trying to listen for the slightest sound of the cabin’s inhabitant.

Even then, it wasn’t until he stood in the doorway of the pack Alpha’s study that he was finally fully aware of his presence.

With infinite patience, Jungkook sat at the desk, looking more out of place than ever. The technicalities of paperwork and peace treaties were a constant headache for him. This wasn’t where he felt he belonged. His soul yearned for the outdoors, for hunting with the group or woodworking in Yoongi’s shop. Yet, as the diligent pack leader, he knew he couldn’t shirk even the most inconvenient tasks.

Today, his hair was down, curling the slightest where the length met his shoulders. The glint of the earrings lining his ears, as well as the newest addition - the piercing on his scarred brow - caught the low light filtering in through the curtains he hadn’t closed properly. The muscles in his face and along his jaw shifted as he clenched and unclenched his teeth, a habit he’d recently formed due to the stress. His eyes were focused on his task, but even with the angle, Taehyung could see that familiar glare taking over his eyes as he read. His eyebrows were scrunched tight, unwilling to let a single word get by him. The stack of documents he focused on was held between his hands, pinched by his fingers. Taehyung was hyper-fixated on them for a moment, studying the firm muscles beneath his skin leading to his forearms - today exposed by his short-sleeved top.

He must have been staring for too long. Jungkook barely moved, letting out a soft “Come sit down” before skimming over the remainder of the text and finally looking up as he flipped to the next page. Only once Taehyung made his move to approach did Jungkook look back down at his work and continue where he left off.

Taehyung took a seat opposite the younger, openly staring without a single care - much less any semblance of shame. Jungkook didn’t seem to mind it anyway. For a while, they both sat in their respective spaces, quiet and locked in their little bubble away from the rest of the world.

However, with Jungkook, as Taehyung had come to know so long ago, there was hardly ever a dull moment. It took the pack leader one glance up at him to convey all that was on his mind. Taehyung met his darkened stare without so much as a blink until his body was moving for him, seemingly bending to Jungkook’s will alone. He worked his way around the desk, Jungkook’s eyes following him all the while. By the time Taehyung was standing between the Alpha’s spread legs, his heart was threatening to beat out of his chest while his breathing was audible.

There was no telling who’d made the first move. Their lips clashed together again and again in an effort to mold into one. Taehyung’s hands tugged at Jungkook’s shirt, not truly making an effort to take it off, but very telling of where his mind was at.

Naturally, Jungkook ignored the silent request. There was a time and place for everything, and they needed to be swift. Jungkook pressed Taehyung into his desk, growling low in his throat in response to Taehyung’s scent in the air. Jungkook’s own cotton and lilac scent became muskier - very telling of how his Alpha was rising to the surface, responding to Taehyung’s own challenge.

Eventually, Taehyung was spun around and made to place his hands on the desk - not completely bending over. Although it lacked the slow pace Taehyung usually favored, Jungkook was still technically supposed to be working. They shouldn’t be doing this at all.

Still, when Jungkook rushed his pants down his legs, he didn’t stop him. He only shimmied to make the glide easier, biting back his own Alpha instincts telling him that he needed to put up more of a fight.

Any lingering thoughts of foreplay fell right out the window the second Jungkook was on his knees and sucking the soul out of Taehyung through his ass.

His tongue was eager and messy, pushing a breathy groan from Taehyung while he pushed his ass back. Jungkook hands grasped at the outside of Taehyung’s thighs, holding him in place while guttural sounds rose from his chest. Instincts drove him to take Taehyung’s squirming as resistance despite the fact that Taehyung was gasping in pleasure, scent sweetening in a way that it only did for Jungkook.

For Jungkook, his Alpha was submissive.

“Is this- oh - is this what you summoned me here for, Alpha?” Taehyung went a little cross-eyed, whimpering and then moaning when Jungkook finally pushed a finger inside, meeting the sensitive bundle of nerves on the first try. “Pulled me away from my work for this? Oh, God.”

Jungkook was quick to work a second finger in alongside the first. The prepping was rushed, but Taehyung understood Jungkook’s urgency. It helped that they’d only just had sex the night before.

“Still so tight,” Jungkook breathed against his asscheek, completely contrasting Taehyung’s thoughts.

He would have scoffed were it not for Jungkook’s free hand that went around to wrap around his length. He gave a few experimental pumps before settling on the tip and giving a firm squeeze. Taehyung’s hips jumped forward, chasing the pleasure on his cock before he pushed back again. The feelings Jungkook was provoking inside of him were unlike anything else he’d ever experienced. He needed the Alpha like his life depended on it.

Inside, Jungkookie, please.”

Jungkook was on his feet within seconds, loudly spitting into his palm and running his saliva up and down his length. It wouldn’t be pain-free, but it would still be perfect because it was Jungkook.

As rushed as they were, Jungkook still took his time easing himself inside. He pinned Taehyung’s hips in place, not allowing his to push back and impale himself faster as he attempted to do. Jungkook let out an amused huff, placing a gentle kiss on the nape of Taehyung’s neck the second his entire length was nestled inside. Taehyung shut his eyes and allowed himself to take in the feel of Jungkook’s heavy weight inside of him.

In their own world, they loved one another like no one else could.

“You shouldn’t be working in the fields, and you know that. That is why I called you in.”

Taehyung was rolling his eyes the second Jungkook gave his explanation. This wasn’t a new conversation. They’d had this particular disagreement since they were boys. Within days of Taehyung and his Omegan father joining the pack, Jungkook had approached Taehyung and boldly claimed that pups shouldn’t have to work the fields before promptly grabbing a shy Taehyung by the wrist and dragging him off to play by the stream. Now the argument was still made, but for different reasons entirely.

“They could use my skill set. Some of the newer pups on the fields hardly know what they’re doing.”

“That’s a problem for their instructors. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I’ll make sure they’re given more training.”

Taehyung rolled his eyes again, fixing Jungkook with an unimpressed expression while the other continued walking the room, spraying a scent diffuser to completely hide what they’d just gotten up to. “You’re being difficult and you know it. You know well that I could teach them all a lot about those fields. It’s no trouble for me at all.”

“And you know well that I don’t like it when people take advantage of you. We have a wonderful pack with many great people in it, but not everyone has the best intentions and we both know why they’d choose to target you of all people.”

“Everyone’s gonna see the favoritism you clearly have for me and won’t be happy about it. There’s only so much you can protect me. I don’t even have the title of being your mate to save me from it.”

His tone sounded bitter even to his own ears. He was prepared to apologize knowing well that it wasn’t Jungkook’s fault but was stopped the second his arms wrapped around Taehyung’s frame. The touch was familiar, warm, welcoming. Taehyung was melting in no time. After intimacy, Taehyung’s wolf was at its most docile, allowing the Alpha’s touch so easily. Given the way Jungkook nuzzled into his hair, the feeling was likely mutual.

“They could never make me want you less. They could never make me look at anyone else. You know that, right? You’ll always be who my wolf will want.”

Taehyung sighed and melted right against Jungkook, enjoying the easy scent of cotton enveloping him in its comforting embrace. “Yeah, I know. But pretty soon, you’ll have to be looking at someone else. You know that, right? Your actual mate will have to have your undivided attention. That’s the person you’ll share a home with. Your bed. Your life. One day they’ll give you pups. Something I can’t give you.”

Taehyung hated that he was the reason Jungkook’s scent bittered, but it was a reality the pack leader was refusing to acknowledge. Taehyung had been preparing himself for it. Ever since the arranged mating with the Omega son of the neighboring pack had been announced, he’d allowed himself to grow used to his reality. Jungkook would have to mate with someone that wasn’t him. As the second in the pack, Taehyung would likely have to mate someone he didn’t love either. Once Jungkook was made to have pups with his Omega, it wouldn’t be long before the Elders fixed their sights on Taehyung and pushed for the same from him.

“I’m working on it,” Was all Jungkook could mutter.

Taehyung knew what he was referring to. For the last several weeks, he’d been promising Taehyung that he’d find a way for him to mate with and pup the Omega. He’d worked to get into the good graces of the Elders, agreeing to the inevitable mating being one step in his plan. Ultimately, Jungkook hoped that upon seeing him mated and seeing the Omega pupped, Jungkook could talk the Elders into letting him live elsewhere rather than under the same roof as the Omega. Perhaps…with Taehyung.

While the optimism was admirable, Taehyung was naturally more pessimistic. While he didn’t dare say it out loud, he doubted there’d ever be a circumstance in which the Elders would allow them to live together in peace and love.

“Wasn’t he supposed to be here over an hour ago?” Taehyung chose to lighten the mood. “You think maybe he changed his mind?”

Jungkook chuckled before shaking his head. “They gave us a window of time, so they still have time.”

“What’s the Omega’s name again?” Taehyung wondered out loud while resting his face against the Alpha’s shoulder.

Truly, he was only choosing to be petty. The name of the Omega to be mated to the love of his life had haunted his every nightmare from the day he’d heard it. And it didn’t sound any less ominous coming from Jungkook’s heavenly tone.

“Park Jimin.”
