Work Text:

Spotted: It's the return of the queen. Blair Waldorf-Grimaldi with one little princess and two royal Basstards (??) in tow. Won't N be thrilled to have his childhood sweetheart back in town for his mayoral inauguration? We all know N's bestie will be. Keep it classy, Chuck!

You know you love me xoxo

Eyes scanning the latest blast, Chuck Bass let out a heavy sigh and set his cell phone aside.

Over a decade had passed since their high school graduation, yet the mysterious blogger remained as active as ever.

However, she wasn't the only one prying into their lives anymore. Every tabloid, blog, and forum with a penchant for European royal gossip from Manhattan to Monaco had all come to the same conclusion: Blair's three year old twin sons had not been fathered by her husband.

The whole situation felt like a modern-day retelling of the James Hewitt and Prince Harry scandal, but with a Monegasque twist. And no one embodied the spirit of a Millennial Lady Di quite like Princess Blair Cornelia Waldorf-Grimaldi.

The media had speculated endlessly about Blair's return to New York for Serena and Dan's wedding over four years ago. Blair had arrived, dutifully posed for the cameras at JFK, attended her best friend's wedding, and returned to Monaco within 48 hours of Serena leaving for her honeymoon.

Since then, rumors had swirled about Blair's activities during those two unaccounted for days at The Empire.

Only she and Chuck knew the truth.

Blair's daughter, Louis's heir, shined with her mother's features. The perfect posture. The huge precocious doe eyes. The proud tilt of her chin. The chestnut curls kept neatly in place with a vast array of bows and headbands.

As far as Chuck could see (and naturally, the memory of every version of Blair Waldorf continued to live rent free in his mind), Princess Grace Grimaldi was a carbon copy of her mother in the second grade. He'd be dead and the memory of a young Blair, flushed and insistent that she had as much of a right to Nate's time as he did, would continue to linger in the back of Chuck's mind.

Haunting him as only she could.

The boys, Nicolás and Henri, were a different story. They were small for their age, with darker hair and darker eyes than their sister. Photographs circulated by the tabloid press showed them with matching mischievous smiles, and the media had already labeled them as future royal rebels.

Despite Chuck's relentless barrage of phone calls and text messages following Blair's departure (and again after her pregnancy announcement), there had been nothing but complete radio silence from her since she left his penthouse suite to return to Palais Princier four years earlier.

For a while, Chuck seethed with resentment towards Blair for her distance, dealing with it in his typical fashion. Poorly.

He had attempted to move forward. Immersed himself in his work at Bass Industries. Tried his hand at dating once more. Even had a few almost serious relationships.

Yet every update on Gossip Girl detailing his life was promptly countered by images of Blair and her children at royal functions all over Europe.

Even with an ocean between them, Chuck and Blair somehow managed to maintain their intricate dance of pursuit and evasion. Cat and mouse. Spider and fly.

Always in sync. Always connected. Never fully giving up. Never fully letting go.

Chuck and Blair. Blair and Chuck. It was complex and convoluted, sure. But you could not go deep enough into Chuck Bass's core not to find Blair Waldorf. And some part of him knew that Blair felt the same.

The sound of his phone's vibrating pulled Chuck from his thoughts. He glanced down, half expecting another Gossip Girl blast.

But no.

It was a phone call.

Chuck froze, having thought he had at least a few more hours to prepare before hearing her voice again.

A painfully familiar name illuminated the screen.

Chuck hadn't seen any good enough reason to alter her contact information. To him, she was as she had always been. No marriage could ever hope to change that.

A phonecall. Confirmation that wherever she was in the city they both called home, she had been thinking of him too.

Incoming Call: Blair Waldorf.
