Chapter Text
You watch quietly as a town starts to come into view on the horizon. The sight of the sun rising behind the outline of the small town makes you breathe a sigh of relief. You made it. Some place small, and far away from the bigger cities and towns. Some place that's bound to be a little bit quieter, and a hell of a lot more peaceful. Hopefully.
The wagon you're currently catching a ride on the back of rocks heavily as it runs over the rugged terrain, but within moments the trail starts to run smoother. Buildings start to pop up on either side of you, and you figure it's about time to end this trip.
You drag a small bag of coins out of your pocket and carefully make your way towards the front of the wagon. You tap the older gentleman steering the wagon on the shoulder. He looks to you with a confused look that morphs into a smile when you hold up the small bag to him. He moves one of his hands from the reins to hold it out before you. You drop the bag and give the man a small salute.
"Thank you for the ride, sir." You express you gratitude before heading back to the tail end of the wagon.
"Best of luck to you ma'am!" The man calls out as you hop off of the moving cart.
You adjust your skirts, and dust them off gently before finally looking up to take in your surroundings. The ramshackle town around you is slowly coming to life with the rising of the sun. Shops are opening, and people are bustling about. A few of said people cast you sideways glances, but ultimately continue on their way. It's expected that they'd be curious of a new face in a town where most likely everyone knows everyone. However, you intend to become one of the regular faces if you have anything to say about it, but first, you'll need someplace to stay.
You start to trek forward, looking at all of the different storefronts for signs of wanted assistance. You don't have to go far though when a 'help wanted' sign hanging in the window of the saloon catches your eye. You trot over to the building and slowly peek inside.
The room is neatly kept and almost completely barren except for a man sitting at the bar, and a pig demon behind the bar cleaning glasses. Both men look up at you when the door rings the bell upon your entrance. The pig demon looks elated to see you, while the man wearing glasses is quick to turn back to his food.
"Welcome miss, come in!" The pig demon beckons you inside.
You stride across the room and take a seat at the bar with a seat between you and the glasses wearing man.
"What can I do for you today, miss?" The pig demon questions as he leans across the bar towards you.
You can practically see the hearts in the pig demon's eyes as he looks at you. It brings a confident smile to your face.
"I saw your sign in the window, sir. Are you still looking for help?" You question while laying the charm on thickly.
You know you have a pretty face, and you've never been afraid to use it to get what you want. However, the moment you mention the job, the pig man's excited face drops. He looks confused at first, and then shocked.
"You want the job?" He questions.
"I do." You confirm. "I'm looking to set down roots in this town, and I'm going to need honest work to get started." You explain.
The pig demon stares at you for a moment before shrugging his shoulders. His smile returns as he leans on the counter.
"I think I can help. There's a room upstairs that's yours if you want it, and I can cover your meals if you do a good job."
A grin tugs the corners of your lips up as you hold your hand out to shake on it. The pig demon takes your hand in his and you both make your agreement.
"When can you start- uhh..." The pig man trails off as he realizes he doesn't have your name.
"(Y/n), and I can start right now!" You offer.
"The name's Pigsy, glad to have you on board." He introduces himself with a grin of his own.
---
After making your agreement with the pig demon, you started working right away. You spent most of the morning cleaning tables and sweeping the floors while the saloon was slow. By the time the afternoon came around, the business picked up. You delivered meals and drinks, cleaning tables in between customers, and ultimately rushing around. By the time the evening came, it was a madhouse. Customers were coming in and making orders like crazy. You were on your feet constantly, but you were managing to keep up with the crowd well enough.
"You're doing a great job, (Y/n)! Keep up the good work." Pigsy praises before sending you off with another plate of food.
You set the food down in front of the man who ordered it and as you're heading back over to the bar, the bell on the door rings.
"Be with you in a mom-" You pause briefly when your eyes land on the one who entered the saloon. "ent."
You quickly turn your back on the newcomer as you feign being busy at the bar. Pigsy doesn't seem to notice your panic, and you're thankful as you grab the round of drinks he offers over. You take them to a nearby table before heading over to the table you dread waiting on.
You can hear your heart pounding in your ears, and each step feels more and more strained as you internally fret over how the following moments will transpire.
"H-hello, what can I get for you?" You finally manage to stutter out.
