Chapter Text
It was another busy day at the news publishing office Piltover’s Press. Caitlyn, a journalist, found herself working another long and tiring shift. It was only 10 o’clock in the morning yet, but Caitlyn was at odds with herself, she had no story to write and publish. It has been this way for a few months now. There were little to no exciting, interesting stories that made Caitlyn invigorated and eager to write. The stories were the same all, about the debate of Zaun’s independence, Senator Mel’s new forte into becoming Mayor.
Caitlyn could feel someone looking at her, she didn’t know how she knew, but there was definitely someone watching her, observing her every move. Caitlyn looked behind her and saw someone and they smiled at her. They had short pink hair slightly covering the right side of their forehead, a shaved undercut, gray but sparkling eyes and a pale face, wearing an all black suit. Caitlyn saw them walk towards her with her manager Jayce and she found herself face to face with the enigmatic person.
"Good morning Caitlyn, this is our new manager, Vi”, Jayce told her. Caitlyn found herself frozen in place by the gray eyes of the handsome new employee. Vi simply held out her hand and said “Nice to meet you Miss Kiramaan. I look forward to working with you”.
Caitlyn flustered and suddenly hot stumbled over her words. “Yes, ummm great to see you, I mean likewise”. She nervously tucked her hair behind her ear, all the while aware that her cheeks were on fire. Vi simply smirked, as if she knew the kind of effect she can have on women particularly shy and timid women like Caitlyn.
“Vi will be overseeing our news articles and stories before they are published. Owing to the slow drawl of news nowadays we brought her in to supervise and help you with writing stories. So, you will be working with Vi to get some interesting stories written and Vi will be supervising the team’s work.”, Jayce said seemingly not noticing Caitlyn’s flustered appearance over meeting Vi.
That’s interesting, thought Caitlyn. Did the bosses at the top really think bringing in someone new will help with the low sales and diminished interest that their news articles were bringing. No, something new and exciting had to be reported to the public that was the only way to grab the public’s attention. But alas, Caitlyn was simply an employee working for this company, she had no say to who was hired, what they were hired for and ultimately what news articles she would be writing.
“That sound okay to you, Caitlyn?”, asked Jayce.
Caitlyn gave a tight smile, “That sounds great”.
“Okay, I’ll leave you two to it then. Work hard”, Jayce enthused before giving a thumbs up to them both and walking away.
Caitlyn, seemingly now knowing she was going to be working under Vi, simply gave her a look and sat down at her office again. Vi stood there a little awkwardly before she leaned her hand on Caitlyn’s desk and looked at her computer. Caitlyn was immediately flustered once again, what was with her today? It’s not like she’s never met hot people before in her life, for her to be reacting this way today. But Caitlyn had to admit, it was simply a hot gesture that Vi performed, she seemed so confident in her skin, that it made Vi all the more attractive.
“Sooo, what are you working on right now?” she asked.
“Ummm, a umm news article about Senator Mel’s current campaign for mayor of Piltover”, she stuttered.
“Cool, I expect the news article to be on my desk by tomorrow morning”, Vi said.
Caitlyn looked at Vi, and realized this was the first time she was seeing her so up close, so close she could see the little tattoo Vi had under her eye on her left cheek and the way Vi’s gray eyes sparkled under the office lights.
She shook her head and questioned, “Tomorrow? But I’ve only just started to get the facts together to write this.”
Vi straightened up and simply shrugged and said “Then you better get a move on, we’re on a tight schedule”, and walked away to her office which Caitlyn noticed was just in front of her, and covered by blurry office windows.
Caitlyn scoffed and right in front of her Lux said, “Ahhhh, these hotshot out of district employees always think they’re better than the rest of us. From what I’ve seen, the only positive thing about our new manager is her good luck.”
“Out of district?” asked Caitlyn and Lux informed her, “Rumour has it Vi is from the undercity of Zaun. Apparently, she wrote that award winning, critically acclaimed article you know, about the repressed and crime induced Zaun where the lower class are forgotten about by the rich in Piltover. That’s why the top bosses recruited her, because she knows her facts and how to write a good story. But that’s just the rumors anyway.” Lux smiled and got back to her work.
Caitlyn thought about this and realized it made sense why Vi was recruited to manage and supervise their work especially at a time when their newspaper sales were low, and their online articles were getting zero attention from the masses. But beyond all that Caitlyn thought there was more than meets the eye about their new manager. If she really is from Zaun, then she must have gone through a lot of hardship in her life. After all, everyone knows how it is in Zaun. A city filled with poverty and crime. Only when the news article was released, a harrowing detailing about how Zaun was left to rot and die from its crime induced streets did the senators realize change had to be made. Slowly, but surely it was being done, but not quick enough in Caitlyn’s opinion and she wondered why. Perhaps, that was a story that could be told on its own.
