Work Text:

Class 1A sat in their seats, pencils scratching against paper as they worked on the math problem Aizawa had assigned. The classroom was filled with a mixture of concentration and quiet murmurs as students wrestled with the complex calculations.

Katsuki, normally brash and confident, was unusually quiet, his brow furrowed in deep concentration. He stared intently at the problem on his paper, his mind racing through the sequence of operations. His classmates stole curious glances at him, surprised by his uncharacteristic focus on the task at hand.

As the minutes ticked by, Katsuki remained immersed in thought, oblivious to the passing time. His eyes narrowed as he meticulously worked through each step of the problem, his determination evident in the set of his jaw.
Beside him, Izuku glanced over, noticing Katsuki's intense expression. "Hey, kacchan, need any help?" he offered quietly.

“Shut the fuck up, you nerd.” Katsuki waved him off with a grunt, his attention fully absorbed by the challenge before him. He was determined to crack this puzzle, to prove his prowess even in the realm of academics.

With a final, resolute nod, Katsuki returned his focus to the problem, determined to conquer it no matter what it took.

As the minutes passed, one by one, the students began to feel confident in their answers. Tenya eagerly raised his hand, convinced he had solved the problem correctly.

"I believe the answer is 11, sensei!" Tenya exclaimed, his voice tinged with certainty.

Momo nodded in agreement, sharing her answer confidently. "I concur, I arrived at 12 as well, Aizawa-sensei," she added, her tone poised and self-assured.

Amidst the exchange of answers, Izuku's hand shot up, his face alight with excitement. "Actually, I got 11 too," he chimed in, unable to contain his enthusiasm. "It's because of the order of operations! You see, if we prioritize the square root and then the multiplication, followed by the addition and subtraction, we'll get 11. I remember learning about this in one of the textbooks I borrowed from the library," he explained eagerly, unwittingly veering into a rambling monologue about mathematical principles.

The rest of the class listened politely, some nodding along while others exchanged puzzled glances at Izuku's innocent yet somewhat boastful reasoning. Despite his unintentional bragging, Izuku's explanation seemed to resonate with a few of his classmates, prompting them to reconsider their own answers.

As Izuku continued to elaborate on his reasoning, more and more students found themselves swayed by his explanation. Nods of agreement rippled through the classroom, signaling that many were beginning to reconsider their initial answers.

Feeling emboldened by the apparent validation of his intellect, Izuku pressed on, his words tumbling out in a rush of excitement. "It was a challenging problem, but I still managed to get it because, well, I guess I'm just...smart," he trailed off with a shy smile, his cheeks tinged with a hint of embarrassment.
However, before Izuku could continue, a loud groan cut through the air like a lightning bolt. "Oh my fucking god, shut up. No one cares about how you got the fucking question, or how smart you are," Katsuki interjected, his irritation palpable as he turned around in his seat, rolling his eyes for emphasis.

The classroom fell silent for a moment, then erupted into laughter. Katsuki's outburst was nothing new to them; they had grown accustomed to his brash demeanor over time.

Caught off guard by Katsuki's abrupt interruption, Izuku felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him. "S-sorry," he stammered, his cheeks flushing crimson. "I didn't mean to... I was just... I apologize," he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper as he averted his gaze, chastened by the sudden reprimand.

Despite being one of the people who giggled at Katsuki's attitude, Ochako couldn't help but be intrigued. "Well, what did you get, Bakugou?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.
Katsuki nonchalantly glanced down at his paper before looking back up with a smirk. "842," he stated matter-of-factly.
For a moment, the classroom was silent, everyone frozen in shock. Even Aizawa lifted an eyebrow in surprise from under his sleeping bag.

Then, the silence shattered as the class burst into laughter. "Dude, how the fuck did you get 842?!" Kirishima exclaimed between fits of laughter. "And I thought sparky was the dumb one!" Jirou added, joining the laughter.

"I'm pretty sure I'm right, man," Katsuki retorted, crossing his arms in confidence, unfazed by his classmates' incredulity.

Amidst the uproarious laughter, Mina managed to squeeze in her question between giggles. "Well, how did you come up with this answer, Bakubro?" she asked, barely able to contain her amusement.

Katsuki leaned back in his seat, a smug grin playing on his lips as he began to explain his reasoning in detail. "Well, you see, it's all about breaking down each step and then—"

Before he could finish, Tenya interrupted, adjusting his glasses as he spoke up, his head spinning from Katsuki's detailed explanation. "Well, I think you might have got something wrong in that," he interjected politely but firmly.

Katsuki's smirk faltered for a moment, replaced by a flash of annoyance. “Wow, what a dick,” he mumbled, only jirou catching it, and laughing. "You're just mad you got it wrong. I know I'm right," he retorted, his confidence undeterred.

Suddenly, the classroom erupted into a cacophony of voices as everyone chimed in, yelling out their own opinions on the matter. Amidst the chaos, one thing was clear: Katsuki's claim of 842 as the correct answer was met with widespread disbelief and disagreement.

Aizawa's voice cut through the chaos with a loud "Quiet!" Instantly, the classroom fell silent, students sheepishly returning to their seats.
"Now," Aizawa began, his voice firm, "raise your hand if you got 11." About half of the class raised their hands. "And who got 12?" he continued, and the remaining students raised theirs.
Aizawa sighed, already anticipating the next response. "And does anyone have an answer other than 11 or 12?" he asked, his gaze lingering on Katsuki, who raised his hand confidently.
A murmur of confusion rippled through the class as they exchanged puzzled glances. Aizawa's eyes glanced to him, before he addressed Katsuki directly. "And how did you come up with this answer?" he inquired, his tone neutral.

The Dekusquad shared smirks among themselves, anticipating Katsuki's inevitable downfall as they waited for his response.

Without hesitation, Katsuki rose from his seat and strode confidently to the front of the classroom. He grabbed a whiteboard marker and began writing down the equation on the board, his movements swift and purposeful.
As the class watched in curious anticipation, Katsuki explained each step of the calculation in meticulous detail. He broke down the sequence of operations, pointing out where others had made mistakes and clarifying the correct approach.

With each explanation, Katsuki's confidence radiated throughout the room, his voice unwavering as he unraveled the complexities of the problem before them. His classmates listened intently, some nodding in understanding while others furrowed their brows in concentration.

As Katsuki reached the conclusion of his explanation, he stepped back from the whiteboard, the equation now fully laid out for all to see. Turning to face his classmates, he folded his arms across his chest, a satisfied smirk playing on his lips.

The Dekusquad exchanged impressed glances, their initial skepticism giving way to grudging admiration as they realized the depth of Katsuki's mathematical prowess.

"Bakugou is correct, the rest of you are wrong," Aizawa declared flatly, dropping the bombshell before crawling back into his sleeping bag without another word.
The classroom was silent, everyone staring in shock at the teacher's abrupt proclamation.

Katsuki took advantage of the stunned silence to make his exit. With a casual peace sign to the class, he smirked and headed for the door. "Sweet. I'm leaving now, peace," he announced nonchalantly as he sauntered out of the classroom, leaving his classmates still reeling from the revelation of his unexpected triumph.
