Work Text:

Rin walked around the corner, trying to find freedom from his teammates' antics. The area was secluded based on the surroundings.

He felt himself sigh from relief as he dropped his school bag on the steps of the school shed.

“Hello?” Rin heard a voice from behind him, aggravating him a little.

So it wasn’t secluded.

Rin turned around to see a boy, he seemed around his age; maybe younger. He had blue, almost black, hair. His eyes stared at him out of curiosity, his head tilted a bit as he leaned on his hand.

His eyes were extremely blue. He was slightly muscular, Rin noted as he looked at his arm.

He was pretty.

“…Hi?” The boy waved slightly, moving his face away from his hand.

Right, he talks. An automatic thing that puts Rin off.

“What.” Rin responded, sending a side glance at him before walking back to the steps and sat on it.

“Nothing, just… you came out of nowhere.” The boy leaned forward a bit. “Why’re you here?”

“…” Rin ignored him, digging into his bag for his phone.

“Great chat.” Rin heard the sound of his head hitting the wall. He most likely leaned back, Rin thought as he put earphones into his ears.

As Rin settled into his music, the boy's persistence didn't wave. He shuffled closer, his curiosity seemingly insatiable. "So, are you skipping class too?" he asked. Rin sighed, pulling out one earphone.

"Yeah, something like that," Rin replied.

“I’m Isagi by the way.” The boy leaned closer to him, seeming curious. Rin moved back a bit.

Rin eyed Isagi cautiously, he seemed too ‘friendly’ to Rin.

“What’s your name? And year? I haven’t seen you around.” Isagi smiles as he leaned on his hand again.

The smile didn’t reassure Rin. “Is that fucking necessary.

“Woah!” Isagi put his hands up. “Just curious.” Isagi’s smile only widened at Rin’s words.

“…” Rin sighed, pausing his music quickly. “Rin.”

“What year?”

“Shut up.”

Isagi giggled a bit, looking forward now. Rin thought he was oddly pretty. “I’m a first year.” Rin finally responded.

“I’m older than you.” Isagi put a hand over his mouth, surprised. “I’m in my second year.”

“Ok.” Rin put his earphone back in, Isagi finally left him alone.

Rin walked down the hallway, holding the strap of the bag. One of his earphones in, tapping at his phone with his other hand. Practice had finally ended.

He heard the sound of quick footsteps behind him, making him turn around.

He was Isagi, running with his bag tightly held in one hand. Rin stood still as the boy grabbed his arm, turning him around and hiding behind him. Isagi was against the wall, Rin hiding him.

“What the fuck-“ Rin turned to the boy who hid as he heard some yelling.

Rin turned back to the loud sounds, seeing a boy drenched; holding a bottle of some energy drink.

The drenched boy sputtered and looked around in confusion. Rin realised he had been dragged into one of Isagi's schemes.

"What did you do?" Rin whispered harshly to Isagi, who simply shrugged innocently in response.

Rin looked back to the boy, seeing two other boys behind him now. The fuck did Isagi do?

The group of boys ran down the next flight of stairs, prompting Rin to step forward and turn to the boy who merely grinned. He shot Isagi a glare.

“Explain.”

Isagi hummed, looking around Rin to see the empty sight. “Thanks.”

“That’s not what I fucking asked for.” Rin crossed his arms as Isagi smiled innocently at him.

“I may or may not have threw energy drink at them.”

“Why’re they so mad over that?” Rin raised an eyebrow, tightening his grip at his bag strap.

“I insulted his mum aswell.” Isagi stuck a bit out of his tongue on the side, Rin noticed his hands slightly shaking.

He was an odd boy.

Rin hummed. “Well, don’t get me involved again. I’ll kill you if you do.”

“Sorrryyy!” Isagi bowed slightly to Rin before running off, Rin watched as he rounded the corner; leaving his sight.

He already hates him.

Rin sat on the bench, leaning against the bleacher’s wall.

“Rinrin!” Rin heard the voice of the worst person to ever grace this planet beside him.

Rin turned around to see Shidou grinning at him. “Can I come over to your house?”

Rin scowled, turning back around. He put his face in his hands, staring at the pitch. “Fuck no.”

“Awww, but I wanna see the love of my life.” Shidou made weird kissy faces at Rin. “I miss Sae.”

“Go harass someone else, where’s your little follower?” Rin sent a side-glare at him.

Shidou hummed, Rin heard the sound of him sitting on the bench. Rin felt extra agitated.

Rin tried to ignore Shidou, watching random teammates (messily) dribble the ball.

“His name is Charles, not a little follower.” Shidou sounded worked up. Rin decided to not provoke him.

“Do you know anything on a boy called ‘Usagi’ or ‘Isagi’” Rin asked spontaneously, putting his head on his hand.

“Woah.” Shidou gasped, his tone switching up. “Does Rinrin have a crush?”

“Fuck off, no.” Rin’s voice was gruff, staring at the football which rolled near him and Shidou. “I wanna avoid him.”

“Sure.” Shidou chuckled a little, Rin could hear his shit eating grin. “Well, I don’t know him that well. He’s chill though.”

“So, he’s annoying.” Rin watched as some npc grabbed the football, running back to the pitch to throw it on.

“Nah. He’s great.” Shidou leaned over to Rin. “Why, do you wanna get in his pants?”

“I’m going to put a gun to your mouth.”

“Kinky.”

The library was another place where no one harassed him, mostly because the librarian (a small woman) was ‘scary’.

Scary as in she wouldn’t take shit from any of the students, she’s insulted them on multiple occasions even.

It boosted her in Rin’s rankings, especially since she almost always targeted the loud ones.

The football pitch was closed due to Ego being out so Rin sat on a random table, on his phone.

He felt someone tap at his shoulder, Rin turned around to see Isagi.

For fucks sake.

“Can I sit with you for a bit?” Isagi smiled at him, as though he wasn’t the cause of his souring mood.

“No.” Of course, he sat next to him anyway. Rin grumbled, going back to his phone.

“You’re on the football team, right?” The boy asked, leaning over to Rin.

“Yeah.” Rin glanced at Isagi before going back to his phone.

He heard rhythmic tapping from Isagi. “See that dude over there.” Rin looked up, seeing a foreigner who sat a few tables across from them.

Rin looked back to see Isagi staring at him. “Are you into him or some shit.”

Isagi scowled at Rin, shaking his head frantically. “God, no. I know he’s on the football team is all.”

“Ok.” Rin looks back at the blond.

“He’s a righteous bitch and I wanna get back at him.”

“…” Rin stared at Isagi’s face, he looked like he was planning something horrendous. Rin sighed, already dreading whatever scheme Isagi was about to propose. "What do you have in mind?" he asked, he was morbidly curious.

Isagi pulled out a tub of baking soda.

Rin stared at the container, looking back to Isagi who stood up.

“Do you mind distracting him?” Isagi asked, smiling innocently (once again) at him.

“Fuck no, I ain’t getting in your shit.” Rin went back to his phone, he heard shuffling and footsteps leaving his area.

He then heard a huge crash.

Rin looked up to see a pile of books fallen, Isagi nowhere to be seen.

“What the…” he looked over to the foreigner (was his name Kaiser?) staring in his direction and a familiar face lurking behind him, he watched as Isagi open the bag and threw in the open container of baking soda inside his bag.

Isagi quickly took off without a hitch, Rin watching as he hushed his laughs.

He didn’t like the foreigner anyways so Rin went back to his phone.

“Oh, you’re back.” Isagi grinned, seeing as Rin sat on the steps like last time. He had some random meat bun in his hand, shoving it in his face.

Rin didn’t respond like usual.

“You play football here, right?” Isagi asked again, his head in his hands. “That’s so cool..”

“It really isn’t, there are a lot of npcs on the team.” Rin shot a halfhearted glare at Isagi.

“Still.” Isagi pouted a bit, putting his head on his knees. “It sucks, I used to be on the team but got kicked out…”

Rin didn’t respond again, he didn’t care for Isagi’s stupid life story he knew he was about to spill.

“I know you don’t care but I really hate the teachers in this school.” Rin agrees with Isagi for once. “They said I cause too much ruckus during my free time and my attendance is too low to be able to have a club.”

Rin hummed, staring at Isagi’s stupid position. He looked like a wet dog.

Rin decided that taking some pity on the boy won’t hurt. “You can play football anywhere else.”

“I went to this school because of the great football team.” Isagi whined. “Stupid fucking principle..”

Rin hummed, finishing his meat bun.

“I do football in some random football club but they’re shitty. All about ‘teamwork makes the dream work’.” Isagi mimicked them. “Stupid.”

Rin stared at the ground in front of him.

“Why aren’t you in football right now?”

“I had a nose bleed and they forced me out for today.”

“Sucks, why’d you get it?”

“You ask too many questions.”

“It’s only 2 questions!” Isagi quipped. “We should totally play together.” Isagi suggested, leaning towards Rin.

“No thanks. You’re probably lukewarm.”

Isagi looked stunned before mocking pain. “Wow.. how rude.”

Rin stood up and left Isagi who merely laughed.

“Where did you even find that stick?” Rin asked, watching as Isagi threw the item into the air; catching it each time.

“Stole it from the equipment shed.” Isagi grinned, looking at Rin as though he solved world hunger.

Each throw increased in height.

“You’re going to hit someone with that.” Rin crossed his arms, looking down at the boy who mindlessly threw the stick.

“Acting like you care.” Isagi leaned back a bit, looking over to Rin as he threw the stick one again.

This time, it didn’t go into his hands.

But the librarian’s head.

“Shit.” Isagi looked over to see the woman’s contorted face from shock. Rin felt him grab his arm and run for it. “Let’s go, Rin!”

“Why’re you involving me?” Rin felt a blood vessel pop as the boy dragged him inside the school.

Yet, he let himself be dragged by the annoying boy.

“Just, run.” Isagi kept running, a firm grip on Rin’s arm. Rin saw the odd glances from others.

Isagi finally stopped when they went up a random flight of stairs. “If I get in trouble, I’ll kill you.” Rin crossed his arms, slightly panting.

Isagi was panting quite hard. “If…” Isagi sucked in a breath before coughing. He regained his composure quickly and turned to him. “I’m fucked if I get in trouble.” Isagi grumbled, drooping a bit as he did.

He looked pathetic.

“You literally did it to yourself.” Rin narrowed his eyes at Isagi who only crumbled more under his watch.

“Mann…”

“Why am I also involved?” Rin crossed his arms, staring at the principle opposing them.

“You ran with Isagi.” The man closed his eyes, tapping his finger against the table.

“He dragged me.” Rin narrowed his eyes at the man, Isagi sat dejected in the seat.

“I’m sure your mum won’t be so happy, mr. Isagi.” Isagi drooped further into the seat, looking at the ground.

Rin felt strangely happy that he got the brunt of the punishment, it was his fault he was involved.

“Rin, you’re free to go. Except; the librarian has stated for you not to go to library from now.” Rin felt his eye twitch at that, standing up and bowing to the man.

“Thank you.” Rin walked out of the room, he completely hates Isagi.

“Rin, do you have a crush?” Bachira leaned onto Rin, blinking at him quickly.

Rin shoved him off.

“Awww, no need to be so rude!” Bachira pouted, putting his hands on his hips. “Shidou said you like Isagi~”

Rin felt his eye twitch. “I fucking despise him.”

“Woah.. Rinnie…” Bachira put a hand over his mouth, his eyes slightly widened. “What did he do..?”

“He fucking got me banned from the library.” Rin huffed, closing his eyes as he crossed his arms.

“Damn, he got you so provoked that you’re even ranting to me.” Bachira put a hand over his chest. “I think he’s quite funny.”

“You have shit taste in people in general.” Rin walked away from Bachira who chased after him, spewing some shit about ‘teamwork’ between teammates.

Annoying.

Annoying.

‘Quite funny’ should be replaced with literally any antonym of funny. Rin watched as he kicked the vending machine.

“Stupid fucking machine!” He shouted as he moved to punch it. “Give me my money back!”

Rin watched the scene, slowly sipping on his energy drink. The boy quickly turned around as the sound of sipping.

His eyes brightened a bit. “Rin! Perchance, do you have…” Isagi turned to the prices. “100 yen?”

“Like I’d give it to you.” Rin rolled his eyes. “You got me banned from the library.”

“I’m sorry…” Isagi pouted, looking down.

“You better fucking be.” Rin crossed his arms, holding his drink strongly.

Isagi's shoulders slumped in defeat, he kicked the vending machine once more in frustration before turning away, his hands shoved deep into his pockets.

Rin watched him for a moment, contemplating whether to offer some small gesture of forgiveness. After a moment's hesitation, he sighed inwardly and reached into his pocket, pulling out a 100 yen coin.

"Here," Rin muttered begrudgingly, tossing the coin towards Isagi, who caught it with surprise written all over his face.

"Rin, you're a lifesaver!" Isagi exclaimed, he beamed at Rin.

Rin felt himself turn a bit pink before turning away. “Don't get used to it,” he grumbled.

“I owe you so much!” Isagi beamed running up to Rin and shaking him slightly with his hands.

“Like a lot!” Isagi’s grin widened more and more. Rin’s blush gradually intensified as Isagi turned away and rushed off.

What was that.

Rin walked along the High Street near the school, it was fairly quiet considering it was 7pm.

Rin walked past a particular alleyway, staring at his phone as he does. He then heard the sound of some items bashing against the floor. Rin turned his head quickly, seeing a group of boys, very familiar boys, backing someone against a wall.

It wasn’t his problem, Rin thought before he heard ther familiar voice.

“Hey! Why don’t we talk about this..”

It was Isagi’s.

Rin turned back to the trio of boys, now seeing a small part of Isagi’s eye peeking between the space between the boys.

Good riddance.

Yet, despite it all, Rin felt himself walking towards the group. He approached the group of boys, his presence causing them to pause their aggressive stance. Isagi's eyes widened in surprise as Rin came closer.

He didn’t speak as the ‘leader’ turned around to face Rin.

“Fuck do you want.” The ‘leader’ spoke.

Rin noted that he was a few inches taller than all 3 of them. “…” Rin grabbed the bag strap and swung at him, hitting him square in the face. He fell to the floor as a result.

Rin was grateful for being an athlete.

The leader groaned in pain on the ground, clutching his nose as blood trickled down. One of the npc’s tried swinging at him. Rin grabbed his forearm, shoving his hand on his face and dragging him to the floor.

Though, he didn’t account for the other one who tried kicking him.

Before he could, a stick hit his head. He dropped to the floor face first, clutching his nose.

Rin looked up to see Isagi picked up a fallen object nearby—a sturdy wooden stick—and brandished it confidently.

"Get lost, you idiots!" Isagi's voice was surprisingly authoritative as he waved the stick threateningly at the remaining boys.

Rin stood back, slightly stunned by Isagi's boldness. “Are you stupid?” Rin reached over, grabbing the arm with a stick; prompting Isagi to drop it.

Rin dragged him out the alleyway, rushing to a random public area.

As they reached a more public area, Rin released Isagi's arm, frustrated. "What were you thinking?”

“I…” Isagi stared at Rin, his eyes widened extremely. “well.. I wanted to help.” Isagi scratched his cheek slightly, looking away. Rin noticed a speck of pink on his cheeks.

“Is it to do with the energy drink?”

“Ah!” Isagi jumped again, he seemed shaken up. “Uhm, yes? No? Pick your favourite answer..”

Rin glared at him.

“Basically.. I may or may not have told the girl he was with that hewascheatingonher.” Isagi quickly spoke, looking around the area.

“…what?” Rin raised an eyebrow.

“I may or may not have told the girl he’s with that he was cheating on her.”

“Was he?”

“Kinda? He was flirting but nothing further.” Isagi grumbled. “I didn’t expect him to go that far..”

Rin sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Mind your business next time.” Rin walked past Isagi.

“Wait!” Isagi yelled for him, Rin turned around to him. He shifted slightly, waking over to him slowly. “Uhm, thank you. What way do you go?”

“…what way am I fucking going now?”

“Right! Well I go that way, can I go with you?” Isagi asked, putting his hand in his pockets.

“Whatever.” Rin put in his earphones, walking in the direction; though he felt Isagi’s (oddly comforting) presence right next to him.
