Chapter 1: Night 1: Aquiring a Specimen

Chapter Text

The summer night was cool and clear. It was on nights like these that Beatrice liked to go on the prowl the most. For more than one and a half centuries, this area had been her domain and hunting ground. People of old warned not to walk alone in the night, lest ye be snatched away and never seen again. Beatrice took great pride in balancing the amount of people to disappear, just enough that folks would disregard or forget about the rumors, but still enough to get her fill. The rise of technology had started to pose a challenge to her, but she was a fast learner and quick to adapt to changes in her environment.

Tonight, she would get her fill once again. The nice weather invited many to enjoy an evening of leisure and have a drink, which made them easy prey. Beatrice glid through the night, her long, dark-red hair and Victorian-esque dress flowing in the breeze, seeking for potential quarry, when she spotted a young man in the distance, in the open dark, approaching a small neighborhood on the outskirts of a village. From her superior senses, she could already smell the aroma of this young man’s blood, tantalizingly close and easy to obtain. The road was not lit, and visibility from those houses was poor. A perfect meal, though a little disappointingly easy. But, she could always spice it up a little! She quietly creeped up behind the young man, and after much internal deliberation, decided to speak to him.

“Wandering alone at night? My, what a brave young man.”

The young man, surprisingly unstartled, calmly turned around.

“Yes, I am. And who might you be?.”

Beatrice was taken aback by the young man’s apparent nonchalance at being approached by a strange and pale woman in the middle of the night.

“Why, my name is Beatrice, and I have never met you before. Prey tell, what is your name.” She chuckled internally at her own pun.

“I’m Richard, I only recently moved here, so I don’t know very many people around here yet.” He said with a calmness usually reserved for meeting a one’s new neighbor, not a stranger in the dark.

Beatrice felt herself shiver with anticipation. Fresh, new blood! This was just getting more and more tantalizing.

“Oh? Prey tell, what brings you to this quaint little place?”

“This place has quite a bit of history, and people tell all kinds of things about happenings. I happen to be a fan of places like that.”

Beatrice could feel herself getting impatient. What was the point of going on a hunt when the prey didn’t fight back or try to run? Smelling the tantalizing blood of Richard, she quickly decided to drop all pretenses and simply attack. Her dark red eyes began to glow and her fangs extended as she lunged at Richard, ready to bite.

What Beatrice did not expect , was for Richard to roll along with her lunge, causing the both of them to fall onto the ground. Before she could process what had happened, Richard was on top of her, pinning her to the ground. Beatrice strained against the young man, who was stronger than she expected. But she was sure that he was no match for her own supernatural strength. Beatrice bucked and threw Richard off herself, quickly following up by lunging at him again.
Beatrice was so focused on attacking that she failed to notice the small spray bottle Richard produced from his jacket pocket and raised at her. She felt the small cloud of vapor hit her face, at first readying herself for the pain of that new-fangled pepper-spray, which didn’t come. Instead, she felt herself lose all sense of balance, her limbs and body becoming heavy as lead and her usual night vision went black around the edges. Her head started spinning, and as she felt herself come close to loosing consciousness, she heard Richard stand up and rustling in his pockets. As he began to restrain her, all she heard from him was:

“You really thought it would be that easy, huh?”

Beatrice tried to protest, but only small gurgles came out of her throat. Richard tied a cloth around her mouth, taking a quick peek into her mouth as he did, and lifted her onto his shoulder. He began to walk to the back of the nearest house, and produced a key to the backdoor. Beatrice could barely comprehend what was happening as he carried her into the basement.

When Beatrice overcame her delirium and began to process her surroundings, there were a few things that came to her attention. The first thing she noticed, was that she had been restrained in some kind of straitjacket. Second, she noticed that her other clothed had been stripped off. As she looked down, she was shocked to find her breasts exposed, being entirely nude other than the leather straitjacket that only covered her arms and shoulders. Once she began to move, she felt the pressure of a collar around her neck, as well as that of a muzzle gag that prevented her from opening her mouth more than a small slit.

As she began to struggle against her restraints, she heard the voice of the young man who had done this to her.

“Don’t bother with that. You're not going to break free from those”

Enraged, Beatrice snarled at him and tried to stand up, only for a chain that connected her collar to the cold, hard ground to stop her.

“You monster, abducing an poor, innocent woman in the night?”

“Don't play dumb. I know all about your kind, Vampire. You calling me a monster is quite the hypocrisy, you know? With how many people you must have killed”

Beatrice glared at Richard with her piecing red eyes.

“Well then, if you hate my kind so much, why bother with all of this? Why not stake my heart and be done with it, oh mighty vampire hunter?”

“Who said anything about me being a hunter or hating vampires?” Richard smiled gently. “Quite the opposite, in fact. I am fascinated by every manner of supernatural creature, and consider myself an avid researcher.”

“Researcher?” Beatrice exclaimed in surprise. “ So what, do you have a dissection table where you’re going to cut me up?”

“Oh no, no, no. That is quite unnecessary. The “supernatural” scientific community has quite enough examples of vampire anatomy. What is desire to learn about is quite unique, if I may say so myself. There are a few thing I hope to learn from this project. First, could a vampire be tamed?”

Beatrice would have felt her blood run cold if it wasn’t already. “Tamed?”

“Oh yes, humans have proved themselves adept at putting ourselves at the top of the food chain, even domesticating wolves, one of the most feared predators, if the stories we tell our children are anything to go by.”

“I can’t tell if you’re stupid or just arrogant.” Beatrice exclaimed in disbelief. “We vampires are immortal. We are far above mere humans. To think you can approach us is hubris beyond belief!”

“And yet here you are.” Richard chuckled. “For my second hypothesis, as you are surely well aware, vampires need to feed on blood due to their own lack of a sort of life essence. You feed on the life essence contained in blood, not any nutrients in the blood itself. We humans have not been able to measure that sort of thing ourselves, so research on that aspect is currently still rather sparse-”

“Can you get to the point already? Beatrice interrupted.

“Sorry, I tend to ramble. Anyways! If there is life energy in blood, that is sort of a problem for us, since we don’t tend to like it if we lose it. But, what if there are other possible sources of life energy? Finding such a source of life energy would make coexistence much less of a hassle.”

“So what, you want to feed me animal blood and such? If you’re so much of a scholar, you should know it has to be fresh, human blood. Animal blood is not the same kind of life energy, and blood already extracted loses the life energy very quickly. Your quest is futile.” Beatrice snarled.

“Not necessarily! I thought about what other substances might be a possibility, when it came to me: Semen!” Richard happily exclaimed.

“…Semen?” Beatrice’s heart sunk. If her blood ran cold already, it just turned to ice.

“Yes, semen! Sperm, more specifically. As it is one of the main ingredients required to breed offspring, it is surely likely to contain a lot of life energy.”

“There is no way. You cannot be serious. That is not possible!” Slight panic began to rise in Beatrice’s chest.

“Have you ever tried?” Richard asked with a smug expression.

“Do you take me for some common harlot? Of course I haven’t ever done such a shameful and depraved act.” A mix of mostly anger and a little bit of fear was audible in her voice.

“Well, then how can you be so sure? We’ll never know unless we try!”

“You are a mad man. You’re a depraved madman! A madman and a pervert!”

“Like you haven't done messed up things. Anyways. The sun is going to rise soon, so I’m afraid we have to call it a night. Don’t worry, I’ve already prepared a place for you to rest.”

Richard stood up and walked over to the wall behind Beatrice, where he removed a sheet from what turned out to be a coffin. Beatrice stared in horror as he opened it, revealing additional heavy-duty restraints.

“This is going to be your new home for the foreseeable future. Don’t worry, I made sure there is no way for light to touch you in there, or for it to accidentally open.”

He began to walk over to Beatrice, who frantically began to struggle in her straitjacket. Richard disconnected her collar from the chain on the floor, before picking her up and carrying the nearly nude vampire to the coffin, her screaming and kicking all the while.
“Struggle all you want, those restraints were specifically designed to restrain even the supernaturally strong. And both the cellar and coffin are soundproof, so do us both a favor and stop screaming.”

Richard set the vampire, who had switched to cursing him with a variety of curses last used in the century before last, into the Coffin and began to restrain her tightly, first clipping the collar to the back of the coffin, then tightening a belt around the nude waist of the vampire. He hen went down to the ankles, quickly dodging a kick that would have broken his neck had he not moved away in time, and cuffed her ankles together, also clasping them into the padding of the coffin. He repeated this above and below the knees, as well as at the top of the thighs.

If the blood in Beatrice still flowed, she would have begun to blush at the hands movements on her legs, almost feeling like sensual caresses. She was not sure if he did it on purpose or not.

Finally, Richard attached some clasps to the straitjacket and stepped back, admiring his work of both the coffin he designed himself, as well as the tightly packed vampire sitting inside of it.

“Now. You came across me earlier than anticipated, so I this all it’s going to be for tonight. I still have to get a few things ready for the research proper to begin. I hope this will turn out to be a fruitful partnership.” He grabbed the coffin’s lid.
Beatrice looked at him with the most venomous stare he could ever have conceived.

“You will regret this. I will get free, and then I will make you wish that would just kill you. I will make you rue the day you thought you could dominate a vampire! I-"

“Shut up. Do not threaten me. Bad Girl!”

In the moment of Beatrice’s confusion at being reprimanded like a dog, the coffin’s lid closed, plunging the vampire into complete darkness and silence.

“Wow, she has a hell of a set of pipes!” Richard chuckled as he only heard very muffled noises he assumed to be the most vile curses known to man coming from the coffin. He was very glad for his investment into the best soundproofing he could find. He closed the four heavy latches and clasped them shut, ensuring that even if the Vampire came loose, she would still not be able to open the lid.

Stepping out of the basement and locking the only exit, he pulled out his phone and began to record a message.

“Hey man, It’s Richard. The vampire bit earlier than I imagined. She's already secured, so I’m going to need you to deliver whatever is already done immediately. That coffin is really doing a phenomenal job, by the way, amazing work on that. Screaming like a banshee, but I barely heard a whisper. I need to go to sleep now, so please only call if you’re here and the doorbell doesn’t wake me up, alright? I’ll have my phone on the loudest setting, so it should wake me up. Thanks in advance for the help.

He looked out the window at the light emanating from the horizon, before slumping over on the couch and falling into a deep sleep.
