Work Text:

"Why did you need me here, again?"

Ren sighed. He knew this wouldn't work. "It's not absolutely necessary. If you have other responsibilities . . ."

"No, no," Hux said hurriedly, fearing he had pushed too far. "Of course, I'll stay. But where is Kyire?"

"The Knights took her on an errand." He had commanded them to take her with them. Not that anyone--including Kyire--had argued.

"Where? On board?"

"No, they took her with them to pick up a case from Aldegion."

"Aldegion! With the Knights? That entire planet is a cesspool. Ren, we need to go get her, now."

"Don't be ridiculous. It's a perfectly normal planet, with good and bad areas. They happen to be going to a very nice part."

Hux put both hands on his hips. "If that was true, then they almost certainly won't be allowed in."

"There you go, then. They'll come right back home, disaster averted. Hux, it's fine. Kyire is with six, highly trained warriors. What could go wrong?"

"Oh fuck," breathed Ushar. "Master is going to kill us."

"Language," Ap'lek reminded him, approaching Kyire cautiously. "Give me the blaster, sweetheart."

Kyire, clutching the blaster in her tiny, six-year-old hands, peered at him, bottom lip quivering. "He was going to hurt you!"

"I know, and you stopped him. You did a very good job." Ap'lek pulled the blaster away.

She brightened. "I did?"

Kuruk hoisted her up on his arm, stepping over the thug she had just shot. "Absolutely, kid. You got him right in the chest.” He lowered his voice, "You weren't aiming at me, right?”

Kyire giggled, hugging his neck. “No!”

“Then I guess working with Hux is really paying off."

Ushar and Ap'lek followed behind, listening to Kyire chattering excitedly about Hux's lessons.

Trudgen joined them. "Does Master need to know?"

"Do you really think she won't tell him?"

"No. Damn it."

"Master really wanted to be there for her first kill," Vicrul reminded them unhelpfully as he passed, shouldering his weapon. They left the cooling bodies where they lay.

"Maybe the hull camera caught it," Ap'lek sighed.

“What if we let her tell him,” Ushar said, adding quickly, “By holo?”

That received a rousing approval, so they hoisted their little hero high and took her back to the ship victorious.

Notes:

I can't help imagining 'the look' Kylo gives the KoR after the big bright smile and, "That's wonderful, sweetheart!" to Kyire 🤭
