Chapter Text
When Dispatch revealed their most anticipated list of Alpha-Omega couples that were dating within the K-Industry, Jeon Jungkook and Park Jimin's pair made the highlight. The K-Nazis of twitter were having a field day, while the true and more mature Armies were taking the news in strides.
It wasn't like Dispatch's word was gospel or that they were the true connoisseurs of Journalism. If anything, they were leeches who fed baseless rumors to the general public for clout. But still, there was damage control to be done.
Jungkook was enjoying his off-week in Busan at his parents house when he received a very peculiar call from Mingyu. His fellow 97 liner Alpha seemed to be beside himself, and was incoherent for nearly a whole minute or maybe it was just that Jungkook's sleep-addled brain had no sense of how human hearing worked at ass o’ clock in the morning.
Mingyu's questions bordered on a rapid fire round of some variety show. And Jungkook was still too deep in his daze of slumber to register any of what his friend was trying to articulate in a way that escaped human comprehension.
When were you going to tell me?
Is it true?
When did it even start?
You lied to me!
Yah! Jeon Jungkook! Wake up !
It was when he heard Park Jimin’s name from Mingyu did Jungkook slap himself awake. Because Mingyu had a very disgusting crush on the model. Honestly, who didn't? Jimin was the Omega of everyone's dreams, endlessly beautiful, with the type of visual aura that commanded the world to gape and blink and fall in love with him.
He was fierce on the runway, one of the most sought-after Omega models of Korea who even the West couldn't resist. So, it was only natural for Mingyu and Jungkook to be popping boners at every billboard that featured Jimin and his heavenly shots.
The problem was, that Jungkook had never met the model head-on or face-to-face. Sure, they attended the same events and all, but Jungkook never could grow the balls to go up to him and say hi. The Omega, while always kind and gentle and smiling his infectious eye-smile had an intimidating aura about him. And he was almost always surrounded by his entourage of other models, like Kim Taehyung and Jung Hoseok - both big and prominent names in the modelling industry.
That wasn't to say that Jungkook had nothing to his name. Jeon Jungkook was the name that Omegas and Betas (and even Alphas) all over the world screamed. It was the name that sold out concerts and filled the streets for a mere glimpse. He was the golden boy of Korea, the only Alpha pop star with influence not only in Korea but in the West as well.
Which is why, people from all over the world shipped Jungkook with Jimin and vice versa. A lot of fans wanted to see them together, and frankly, Jungkook understood. They were both in their primes, Alpha and Omega divided by differing industries, but united by their similar prowess and fame. Jungkook saw the appeal and even indulged in it.
Who wouldn't fantasize about having an Omega like Park Jimin? But Jungkook’s fantasy wasn't having an Omega like Park Jimin. Nope. His fantasy was to have Park Jimin.
So when Mingyu told him that he was in a scandal with the Park Jimin, Jungkook pumped his fist into the air like having a dating scandal with the Omega model was his lifelong dream and wouldn’t put an immediate dent in his career.
Jungkook didn't particularly care for that, anyway. He was at the height of his career. 10 years he'd given this wretched industry that'd wanted to eat his flesh. He deserved to be in a dating scandal at this point, for fucks sake!
So when Hybe called to bring Jungkook in from his much needed off-time to manage the situation and have a meeting with Jimin’s agency, Jungkook was beside himself but with happiness. Much to Mingyu's chagrin, the other Alpha was frolicking and throwing flower petals in his wake to Seoul. The staff was confused, the producers and directors even more so because Jungkook, for once, was not complaining or threatening to leave the agency for disturbing his hibernation.
It was all Park Jimin, though. The ethereal Omega whom Jungkook had only gazed from a distance because getting too close to him seemed such a far-off thought. Jimin was a moon that Jungkook wanted to keep all to himself, like you know, a standard delusional Alpha - as Yoongi liked to call him. Yoongi who, unlike Jungkook, actually knew the Omega and had nothing but good things to say about him. The Beta had even offered to introduce them but Jungkook had tucked tail at the last moment.
“Listen,” Nicole said, expression grim and exhausted, “I appreciate that you're trying to be an upstanding Alpha with the flowers and all, but let's not blatantly give away the fact that you're in love with him. It's going to creep him out, because it's surely creeping me out.”
Jungkook might be standing in front of a mirror with a bouquet of flowers to hype himself up for the meet, but of course, he wasn't going to do…. that .
“I am not in love with him.” Jungkook feigned disinterest by tossing the bouquet on the couch, which wasn't something he should've done all of a sudden because it just looked ridiculously forced now, you know, like a lie. “I'm just trying to be….a nice person.”
“So, this is not your attempt at peacock posturing to start a potential courtship with him?”
Jungkook felt his face contort with distaste at such eloquence. Nicole just had a way with words that the Alpha hated sometimes.
“What does that even mean?”
Nicole sighed, picking up the bouquet and handing it to him again. “I'm just saying let's not go all dumb and overboard, like you did the last time PD Min offered to introduce you to him.”
“I was drunk!” Jungkook defended himself, much to Nicole's nonchalance. “I didn't want to make a bad first impression.”
“You walked into a pole and spat your drink in Eunwoo's face when Jimin made your line of sight.” She very unhelpfully reminded him, and those were certainly not Jungkook’s strongest moments. “I don't think there's any other sort of impression you can make with that track record.”
Even the staff around laughed, which was embarrassing because Jungkook was one of the most eligible bachelors of Korea, if not the whole world. He made the list of world's most handsome Alphas beside freaking Ryan Reynolds, for fucks sake.
“Did they hire you to demotivate me?” Jungkook couldn't help but ask, wondering if he'd missed a clause in her contract where it was necessary for her to bully him as much as possible.
Nicole rolled her eyes. “They hired me to keep you in check and you don't exactly make that easy for me.” Jungkook rolled his eyes right back at her.
Nicole and he had the sort of bond that had long transcended the standard idol-manager relationship. She might roast the shit out of Jungkook but at the end of the day, he could count on her to handle any and everything for him. He should probably give her credit for not quitting. Jungkook’s life wasn't exactly…quiet…despite his somewhat introverted personality and hatred for noise, strong scents and bright lights. Which was ironic, given his profession.
Anyways, back to the situation at hand. Jungkook did not lose his enthusiasm despite Nicole's sour mood and her constant words of advice to not get a fucking brain freeze at the last possible minute. The Alpha, obviously, ignored her. He was confident. He was feeling himself. His Alpha and he were each other's hype man. What could possibly go wrong?
As it turned out, plenty could go wrong. Because as soon as Jungkook stepped into the room, the God of common sense and courage descended from his body like a free bird. Thank God for Nicole though, who gave him a harsh push from behind so he would at least cross the threshold before keeling over and dying.
It wasn't like he hadn't been in the same room as Jimin before. The difference was that there was no one else there, the room was too spacious and empty save for their managers present.
Jimin’s back was to Jungkook and then he turned around and it felt like Jungkook was Icarus, flying too close to the sun. The Omega was even prettier bare-faced, all honey pale skin and rosy cheeks and that famous perpetual beak of his. Not to mention the oversized brown fur jacket he was sporting, complete with bear ears and blonde hair that peeked out from under the hood. And God, he was so….pocket-sized and tiny.
Jungkook’s heart was beating….a lot. And in places the Alpha didn't know his heart could reach. It wasn't scientifically possible for his heart to beat in his eyes and in his stomach at the same time. He didn't have three hearts, for fucks sake, but Alas. Nicole was right. Jungkook had gone so blissfully dumb, that he continued to ogle at the Omega even when Jimin came to stand only some distance away from him.
Nicole jabbed him in the side, as she bowed down to greet the guests that had graced the Hybe building with their presence. Jungkook followed suit immediately, presenting the flowers to the stunning Omega. Oh, boy was Jungkook in love with a bold and capital L in cursive font when the Omega smiled, gracefully accepting the bouquet.
“Thank you, Jungkooksshi, you are as kind as you are handsome,” Jimin said, voice so unbelievably sweet that Jungkook almost didn't register the venom that came out of the Omega’s mouth the next second. “But these flowers don't cut how your fans are crucifying me on twitter!” He returned the flowers, by pushing them into the Alpha’s chest and angrily marching away from him.
“Huh.” Jungkook turned to the Omega, who had power-walked away to stand cross-armed beside his manager, gaze hard and plush lips in a wholesome frown. Jungkook wanted to eat his cheeks.
“Yes, they are all being absolutely horrible, horrible people!” He maintained, raising his brows in challenge, looking so damningly attractive that Jungkook let him get away with blatantly insulting his fandom that he loved before everything!
But nope. Not happening. Even though Jungkook would very shamelessly let the Omega walk all over him, he had to keep his head and his pride. “Ya! Not a word about Armies, they're just protective.” He only prayed he sounded a tad assertive, because his knees were starting to wobble from being near the enigma that was Jimin. His ancestors were probably rolling in their graves because good lord, what had become of Alphas these days?
“I'm older than you, a little respect goes a long way, Jungkooksshi.”
Jungkook spread his arms to show his disbelief. “I am being respectful, I brought flowers for you and you threw them in my face!”
Jimin’s cheeks bunched up and grew rosier with rage. He narrowed his eyes and took a few steps forward, and Jungkook feared for his life because why the hell was his stomach full of butterflies in between the crisis of the century.
“And what am I supposed to do with these…bare minimum flowers?” He spat, making his beautiful eyes big and round sarcastically. “Marry you? Give you pups?”
To say Jungkook’s Alpha brain went into overdrive over that one would be a grave understatement. For all he knew, freaking stars and fairy dust was circling around his head dreamily.
“Yes,” Jungkook said in a daze, “yes, you should.”
“W-What?” Jimin blinked, uncrossing his arms awkwardly. Jungkook blinked too, because what the ever living hell was he thinking. And then they both blinked before Nicole was thankfully coming to his rescue.
“What he means to say is that….we should sit and talk..like civilised people.” She said politely, grabbing Jungkook’s arm to maneuver him to the couch. “Right, Jungkooksshi?”
“Right.”
Jimin looked back at his manager for confirmation, a foreign Beta lady who looked as tired as Nicole probably felt. She sighed, and nodded, and they both took the couch parallel to Jungkook and Nicole.
“Stop talking with your ass. And stop…gawking at his.” Nicole muttered, gritting her teeth while still maintaining her polite smile. Jungkook had the good grace to avert his gaze for a moment, at least, while Nicole tried to save the situation. “None of us expected such a thing, and it's not any of your faults that it happened.” She said to both of them, but of course, Park Jimin, the beautiful pouty Omega with his stupid bear-eared hood and attractive apple cheeks had something to add.
“But they all hate me now!” He pointed at Jungkook. “His self proclaimed Omega wives or whatever they call themselves are out for my blood!” Jungkook didn't know what he was feeling, but it shouldn't be a dick twitch and NSFW images of shutting up the bratty Omega by…inappropriate means. “It's definitely not my fault,” Jimin mumbled, casting a significant glance towards Jungkook, “but I know whose is it.”
Jungkook couldn't quite believe the audacity of this demonic Omega with the face of a cherub. He wasn't complaining, not really, the whining, and the pouting and the bratty tendencies were cute and all, but the Alpha feared he might end up popping a complex boner or something.
That would definitely result in another scandal. The ssasaengs might label him as a predator next, there was no telling with them. Not to mention, he also had to argue his fandoms dignity because Omega of his dreams or not, no one disrespects Army!
“Oh, so it's my fault?” He pointed at himself. “As if your bloodhounds don't want to devour me whole! Mingyu wants to end our friendship because of you!” It was true and it was ridiculous. Jungkook couldn't believe his best friend in the whole wide world would threaten to end their friendship over an Omega, no matter if that Omega was the Park Jimin.
“First of all, who is that?” Jimin raised a finger, face contorting into a stunning scowl. “Second, I am not taking responsibility for stupid Alphas who think with their knots!” He barked, more like meowed , before crossing his arms and turning his body away from the Alpha.
“They're your fans!” Jungkook half-yelled incredulously. What was with this Omega?!
“No, they aren't!” Jimin yelled back. “My fans are intelligent and respectful.”
Jungkook almost gasped. “And my fans aren't?”
The Omega had the spine to shrug. “Well, an artist is a reflection of their fans so…”
“So?”
Jimin smiled sarcastically, leaning forward as if to tell him a secret. Jungkook instinctively leaned ahead too, despite the safe distance between them.
“So if the shoe fits, wear it cinderella!”
Jungkook’s mouth opened into a gasp for real this time, while the feisty Omega assumed his previous position of a pouty chick, paying no mind to the Alpha and instead, completely looking away from him.
“You are so ,” Jungkook shook with annoyance, like his body physically shook as he racked his brain for an appropriate word for Jimin. “ Angelic ,” He settled on, “and yet you have the mouth of the devil on you. How does that work?”
If Jimin looked angry lite before, he was angry pro max now. Jungkook was sure if looks could kill, he would drop dead with the Omega’s fierce gaze. He should be terrified, which he partly was, but he was also turned on. Which was a problem. There was something seriously wrong with him.
Nicole shot to her feet, becoming a necessary barrier between them. “Okay, this is officially code red.” She declared. “We are calling in the big guns and both of you are in timeout.” Jimin looked like he would argue yet again but one look later from his own manager, he was settling down like a pouty puppy, eyes throwing daggers at Jungkook, so much so that Nicole elected to seat them side by side on the same couch so they wouldn't look at each other. “No speaking to each other, no glaring at each other….just…spend some time together…. silently .”
