Dishonorable Pursuits

Summary:

Tobie wiped the tears that brimmed his eyes before sucking in a deep breath that racked through his body. He looked down at his hands, washed out from the fluorescents, they wouldn’t stop shaking, the place behind his eyes throbbed with the oncoming migraine, and the stress of what he was about to do, what he had to do. Tobie couldn’t let Kieran come clean to the board. He had put in so much extra work these last few months. Tobie had watched as Kieran over and over again broke down, unable to handle the pressure; and who was there every time to clean up the mess, to clean up his mess, Tobie. Kieran had never known what it was like to truly struggle, he came from money and had things given to him his whole life. Anger overrode Tobie and his stomach soured, anxiety held his body like the fragile thing it was, squeezing and squeezing.

Notes:

Hey we’re on a mock team and January 3rd was so clearly obviously a break up sex scene so we decided to elaborate! Please enjoy, we won’t accept any objections. If you have any feel free to write fics on your own and tag them under this fandom— we want to see them!

Chapter Text

Kieran

Kieran swirled his now-cold coffee and flipped through his notes from all of his interviews earlier in the day. The faces blurred together – was it the woman with red hair who mispronounced expedite three times or was that the guy straight out of law school who spoke like he only understood sadness conceptually? There was just one prospective hire left, thank god, and one with a pretty impressive resume, too. A degree in neurobiology and trained in patent law. Now all he had to prove was the slightest bit of confidence and —

Oh.

Kieran’s breath caught in his throat. The late afternoon sunlight broken into stripes by the blinds struck the stranger — Tobie Clark, if Kieran read his notes correctly — making his brown hair shine with golden accents that hid around each piece of hair, the light dancing across him. Kieran stacked his papers in his hands, tapping them on the table twice before setting them back down. He stood up clearing his throat, he let his eyes drift up the dark blue of the other man’s, Tobie's, pants. His eyes lingered at his belt buckle, then moved upwards, noticing the way the fabric wrapped around Tobie’s body. Finally Kieran dragged his gaze up to meet Tobies, the sun caught and sparkled in Tobies eyes, Kieran could feel his heart speed up in his chest.

“I’m here for the in-house counsel job?” Tobie said with a small grin on his face.

How long had Keiran been standing here staring at this guy? Fuck, he wanted to kiss that smirk off his face. Focus. He needed to focus. “Right! Right, you’re in the right place for that.” Kieran held out his hand to Tobie and tried not to jolt when their palms touched. Tobie’s grip was firm, firmer than Kieran’s.

Tobie pulled away first, then gestured to the chair in front of him. “So, should I take a seat?”

Kieran swallowed. What was wrong with him? He wasn’t usually this unprofessional, even when the applicants were hot. Which Tobie was, objectively. Not that Kieran was paying attention to that, of course, because he was the CEO of this company for God's sake, and he would interview this guy like he would anyone – gorgeous green eyes be damned.
