Jungkook’s least favourite time of the year is Halloween, when supernatural creatures come out under the pretence of dressing up and having fun. It’s not that he and the rest of his amateur supernatural containment team can’t handle the efflux of vampires from their covens, werewolves from their packs, and whatnot; but, they’re a literal pain in the ass.
He’s sitting by the bar, drinking a cocktail of vervain and vodka, when arguably the worst vampire of all time, Kim Taehyung a.k.a. V in the supernatural underground, slips into the seat beside him.
“Detective Jungkook?” Taehyung says, his voice amused, as he gives the Detective Conan costume that Jungkook is wearing a once-over. He smiles, fangs obvious, and says, “Very cute.”
“Thanks,” Jungkook replies, not even surprised to see Taehyung dressed as a stereotypical vampire, black choker and cape all present. His eyes draw themselves to Taehyung’s lips, and he hopes that it isn’t real blood that’s stained his mouth and chin.
Taehyung orders an alcoholic drink that he has no intention of drinking, only to play into the act of being a human. Jungkook has seen this many times before when he’s doing reconnaissance, and more often than not, the supernatural cultivate an innocent façade with surprising ease.
“I still owe you for that time,” Taehyung says, referring to the past incident where Jungkook had realised how shitty of a vampire Taehyung actually is, had felt sorry for him and let him go instead of staking him. He had been reprimanded by his senior vampire hunters for being “too soft.”
“It’s okay. I’d rather you just forgot about what happened and leave me alone,” Jungkook replies, staring at the glass in front of him, not wanting to be seen associating with vampires.
“Really?” Taehyung asks, and Jungkook doesn’t even see it coming, but Taehyung’s fingers are on his neck, right on his pulse.
Freezing, Jungkook tries to control his heartbeat, knowing how obvious it must be to a vampire.
“Your heart rate’s been going a lot faster since I plopped down beside you, and I know it’s not because you’re scared of me,” Taehyung says, a smirk on his face, his hand sliding across Jungkook’s skin to wrap around his nape. Leaning in, Taehyung’s lips are a mere hair’s breadth away from Jungkook’s ear, the ghost of a breath leaving Jungkook paralysed.
“Either we can do it here,” Taehyung says, pausing and moving out of Jungkook’s personal space as he trails his eyes over the multitude of humans at this bar, and Jungkook wants nothing but Taehyung’s eyes to be only for him. “Or we can do it somewhere private. Your choice.”

Jungkook first met Taehyung by coincidence. Based on a tip-off, Jungkook had been investigating the supposed Blood Monster’s residence in Gangnam, when two vampires had stumbled in. He recognised Jimin, a vampire who fed only on animals and provided useful intel on aggressive and unfriendly vampires. The other, Taehyung – Jungkook had never seen before in Seoul, so he assumed that Taehyung was simply one of those wandering vampires with no place to call home and wouldn’t stay long enough to be a problem.
“There’s someone here,” Jimin said, grabbing Taehyung’s arm and leading him away from the door, up the stairs. “Someone human.”
Taehyung looked drunk, his lips far too red for any reason other than having recently fed. He closed his eyes and sniffed the air, then wrinkled his nose. “Whoever it is, they smell delicious,” Taehyung said, making Jungkook hold tighter onto the wooden stake hidden inside his jacket. “Do you think Namjoon would mind if I jerked off right here on this beautiful, slightly dusty flooring… Whoever’s blood it is, the smell’s making me horny.”
Jimin’s eye twitched, then he looked to the far right, where Jungkook was hiding behind a bookshelf. He spotted Jungkook within seconds, but made no movement. Jimin recognised that Jungkook wouldn’t attack, not unless he had to defend himself.
Unfortunately for both Jimin and Jungkook, Taehyung had other plans, his inhuman speed allowing him to catch Jungkook by surprise as he wrapped a hand around Jungkook’s throat.
Jungkook looked into Taehyung’s red eyes, unafraid. He could fight; he had killed plenty of vampires twice Taehyung’s size.
Then, Taehyung had said, “Damn, you’re too hot to kill,” and let go of Jungkook. A mistake. Jungkook used the opportunity to slam Taehyung into the wall, aiming the stake at Taehyung’s heart.
“You’re not,” Jungkook had replied, almost laughing when Taehyung had pouted. Jungkook had no intentions of getting in bed with vampires, both figuratively and literally, even if they looked as attractive as Taehyung; it went against protocol.
“Jungkook,” Jimin had interrupted, his hands up in surrender, trying to placate him, “Taehyung isn’t a threat. You can trust me. Let him go.”
“I’m not a threat,” Taehyung reiterated, and despite being only a few centimetres away from receiving his true death, winked at Jungkook, smirking. “Except to your virginity.”
Jungkook huffed. “Not a virgin,” he said, slipping his stake back into his jacket and stepping away from Taehyung. “Make sure I don’t catch you hurting any humans or I won’t hesitate to stake you next time.”
Taehyung replied with a two finger salute, the previous bravado on his face now replaced with an unreadable expression.
Jungkook watched Jimin herd Taehyung away to one of the mansion’s rooms. Still perplexed by Taehyung, Jungkook had left, wondering if Taehyung was just a flirty idiot or just really weird. It wasn’t until he was safe at home, looking into the bathroom mirror, that he realised he had bruises the shape of Taehyung’s hand blossoming on his neck, only now understanding that if Taehyung had wanted to kill him or drink from him, he could have.
But Taehyung had surrendered, as though it wasn’t redundant for a predator to ignore the call to take, as though it wasn’t a completely stupid idea to let a vampire hunter free just because he was good-looking, as though he was trying to hold onto whatever remaining human traits he had.

Jungkook is certain that he hasn’t been compelled by Taehyung’s freaky vampire eye magic into inviting the vampire into his previously safe abode. He had consumed vervain, a powerful anti-vampire herb that’s meant to prevent compulsion and cause pain to vampires if they ever feed on blood with vervain circulating in the system. And then Jungkook, despite having his back pressed against the wall of his bedroom by an eager Taehyung, remembers that Taehyung’s ability to be a vampire is nowhere as bright as his smile.
Taehyung removes Jungkook’s faux glasses and his bowtie and throws them on the floor; Jungkook lets him.
Taehyung unbuttons the first few buttons of Jungkook’s shirt and moves to press his lips against the base of Jungkook’s neck; Jungkook lets him.
Taehyung rests his hands on Jungkook’s waist as he bites down, his fangs protruding, breaking skin, and drinks Jungkook’s blood; Jungkook lets him.
“I took vervain,” Jungkook manages to say before he loses any more focus on what’s happening, his senses beginning to be clouded by the high that vampire saliva delivers to his bloodstream.
Jungkook expects Taehyung to collapse. Instead, Taehyung pulls away, licking his lips, and Jungkook tries to not focus on Taehyung’s tongue or his blood-stained lips. Taehyung drops to the ground, but in mock offense. Placing a hand over his heart, he says, “I’m shocked that you would try to poison me!” In less than a heartbeat, Taehyung’s standing up in front of Jungkook, eyes locked intently on him.
Taehyung’s crimson eyes are dilated. And, oh, Jungkook recalls what Taehyung had said when they first met.
“I’ve developed a resistance to vervain,” Taehyung tells him, the corners of his lips curling into a smile, “naturally, over the course of my three hundred odd years of being dead. It comes in handy whenever I fall for vampire hunters, although you’re the first to be so handsome.”
Taehyung sees the dark expression fall across Jungkook’s face and laughs, patting his cheek. “I’m joking – you’re the first vampire hunter I’ve fallen for. That makes me a fool for love, doesn’t it? Jimin already gave me an earful.”
“Don’t talk about Jimin,” is what Jungkook settles for saying, unsure of how to react to Taehyung’s other statements. He wraps his arms around Taehyung and quietens his reply with a kiss.
Wasting no time, Taehyung returns the kisses, his hands moving to undress the both of them; Jungkook joins him, with a fervid desire to feel Taehyung’s lips upon his skin once more.
Even though Taehyung is supposedly the idiot vampire, Jungkook wonders if he’s just as much of an idiot for wanting everything that Taehyung is.
