Work Text:
Saying that things were weird after the date was a huge understatement. It was EXTREMELY awkward and nerve wrecking.
Blackhat knew he fucked up when Flug’s goggle lenses cracked.
“ ...What?”
Blackhat never felt so nervous in his life until now, and as every stupid person out there, he asked the question again. This time, in an uncertain tone, “Why did it take you this long to finally see my love for you??”
“Are you calling me stupid?” Flug said deadpanned. Even though there was no emotion behind it, Blackhat instantly knew that he was dead serious.
Shit shit shit. Blackhat started sweating. He didn’t mean to tick off his Future like this. He had to fix his mistake. Maybe he phrased the question wrong? He should rephrase it for better measure.
“N-no! I- I mean. Um,” stop stuttering you bloody idiot. He fixed himself in the chair , “Let me rephrase it since I realized I um.. Anyway. You said that you were able to notice the smallest of details, so how come you weren’t able to notice my romantic gestures till now?” He awkwardly smiled at Flug, both hands clasped on top of the table.
The other just sat there, looking down at the table like it was interesting. Flug did not hear Blackhat or noticed him staring. He was more fixated on the fact that he was just mocked for his smartness.
“I have all of these degrees and airplane knowledge and even educated you on most of them. But yet, you call me stupid?! I’m offended.” Flug looked up at Blackhat. All Blackhat could see was a glare on his goggles. He was extremely confused about how Flug came to that conclusion.
“What??? I never called you stupid.”
“Yes, you did.”
Blackhat sighed, pinching between his eyebrows, “No.. Flug. I’m trying to ask you why you never realized I’ve fallen hard for you.” He tried to clear the air.
Yet, of course, Flug doesn’t understand. Underneath the bag, he raised his eyebrow, “What the hell do you mean? You’re still sitting.”
This seemed to be Blackhat’s breaking point since all of the patience in his body left that exact instance. He had enough of being casual and trying to flirt with an oblivious idiot. Something had to be said or this was going to take years, centuries even.
Blackhat jumped up from his chair, making a loud squeak, and glared at Flug.
“You know what? I take it back. You ARE stupid. A stupid idiot that doesn’t pick up on social cues despite bragging about how you’re able to pick up on the tiniest of things.”
The scientist let out a huge gasp and quickly stood up, “How. DARE YOU SAY T-TO ME? I know I’ve never been the best at socializing but I’m trying my damn hardest to talk to you right now. But I AM able to pick up on the littlest of things, like how you’re digging your claws into the table, which indicate that you are frustrated.” He pointed to Blackhat’s hands, which were in fact doing said thing.
Honestly, he didn’t realize that he was destroying the table. He did give points to Flug for that. He growled as he removed his hands from the table and then folded his arms,
“Okay! FINE, I can give you that. However, that isn’t even what I’m talking about!”
Flug rolled his eyes, “Then what are you talking about?! Are you talking about the Co-pilot thing?”
The eldritch blinked at him, “.. What?”
“Ugh!” Flug walked around the table and stood right in front of Blackhat, pointing at him, “You know? You yelled at me for not picking up on any social cues, but it’s you that has been oblivious to the fact that I AM oblivious to specific things… Demencia had to tell me everything.”
Blackhat could not believe what he was hearing. What does he mean I’m the oblivious one?!” And HE SPOKE TO DEMENCIA?! What did she tell him? Did she tell him everything?! What, no
“What do you mean I’m the oblivious one?! I’ve known and I’ve made it as obvious as possible! But it looks like Demencia HAD to save the day to make you understand.” Blackhat sat back down, trying to calm himself down.
“Yeah! She did! She told me everything! About what you asked last year. About how you’ve been wanting to be a co-pilot for years now. Every single detail!”
“Again with the co-pilot. What the fuck are you talking about?”
“That’s why you came up to me and kept on making these moves! That’s why you told 5.0.5 to put up all of those heart decorations. You were trying to tell me that you wanted to travel the skies together.”
Blackhat looked up at Flug, confused, “What the fuck?! NO! That’s not-”
Flug continued, not caring about what Blackhat had to say, “I was finally able to figure it out! That you wanted to co-pilot with me!”
Blackhat let out a huge growl, “UGH! I NEVER WANTED TO BE A CO-PILOT!” His voice boomed, echoing throughout the room. On top of that, he punched the table with so much force it broke.
Then there was silence. The silence confused Blackhat. He thought that Flug would say something else. Something to combat what had just happened, but nothing came out.
Instead, he heard snuffling.
Blackhat opened his eyes and made eye contact with Flug. Shiiit. “Flug?”
He let out a sob.
Then, it finally hit Blackhat like a holy brick. Co-pilot. Flug loves airplanes. He loves anything to do with airplanes. It was the way Flug was able to understand the connection between love.
He screwed up, and it made Blackhat feel like a douchebag. A major asshat.
“Hey,” he stood up, reaching towards Flug, “I’m.. I didn’t mean it that way, I- “
His hand was slapped away by an upset Flug, “T-then what DID you mean?”
“...I-”
“I was confused on how I was feeling these past years and months. I never f-felt anything like this before and I never knew how to deal with it and I thought maybe, that you would… H-Help me understand….” he shook his head, “but now, I’m not so sure anymore.” Flug glared at Blackhat.
He didn’t know what to say, so he stayed quiet. This made Flug more upset, “Fine! If you’re not going to say anything. I’m leaving!” He began to walk to the door, “I thought I knew what you wanted, but it turns out I didn’t,” Flug said, not stopping.
Blackhat started freaking out, because he didn’t want his love to leave! “Flug! Wait!”
But Flug did not stop, he just kept on walking. Blackhat wanted to run to him, wanted to grab his hand to clear up the air. However, he couldn’t. Something in his body made him unable to move.
All he could do was watch.
And he hated it.
—-------------------------------
Blackhat was in his room, summarizing what had recently happened.
For almost a week, Blackhat had tried to get Flug to talk to him when he caught him in the lab. A word, or at least something!
But every single time he confronted him, the doctor would just… Run away.
“Hey, Flug, about last night… I- .” Flug turned and slowly left.
“Hey, Flug.. Two nights ago.. I wanted to apologize for-.” Flug dropped everything and walked to the door.
“Flug, Is this a good time to talk-.” Flug sighed and ran out the door.
“Flug! IWANTEDTOAPOLOGIZEFORWHATHAPPENEDAFEWDAYSAGO. PLEASE FORGIVE ME!” He screamed desperately. Flug stared at him for a while. A good sign? Blackhat thought. He was mistaken.
Flug booked it outside the lab. That was the last time he’d seen or heard of Flug.
Now, Blackhat rarely watched cartoons or shows, but that is what this current situation felt like. Flug wouldn’t wait for him to finish one mere sentence. Did it frustrate him? Yes, of course. It took every will in his being to not go destroy a random universe like the last few times he’s ever been this annoyed.
Then something clicked in his head. He needed outside eyes into this drama. He needed someone who was very knowledgeable in these sorts of things. He groaned, just thinking about who he KNEW he had to ask.
Blackhat did feel a teensie bad since Demencia has already heard his ramblings before but it shouldn’t be an issue this time… Right?
Well, in order to get what he wants, he needed Demencia’s help. He always gets what he wants.
And he wanted Flug.
—--2 days later—---
Blackhat paced around his office unsure of what he was supposed to do next. Demencia sat in his spare chair, playing with the dust on it from being bored out of her mind.
“I could give him some heroes to torment, since he’s always liked that… But it’s not screaming special. Maybe a date? No, it didn’t end well last time. Take him around the world?.... But would he enjoy that? “
He stopped by his desk, “ARG WHY IS THIS SO FLIPPIN FUCKIN HARD AH?!” He threw his desk outside the window again. This time it hit two old women walking on the sidewalk. There was mass chaos about the incident but despite enjoying it, it wasn’t the right time. Blackhat had some thinking to do.
“You could just teleport somewhere random. Oh! Like in the middle of the woods,” Demencia started in a bored tone but perked up when she got an idea.”
Blackhat took a deep breath and turned to Demencia, giving her all of his attention, intrigued.
She continued while jumping on the chair she sat on, “And it can be like a picnic! And then after the picnic, DESSERT TIME WHICH MEANS YOU CAN EAT OUT HIS GUTS. EAT HIS LIMBS AND BRAIN, SUCK UP ALL HIS BLOOD. DEVOUR HIM UNTIL THERE’S NOTHING LEFT OF HIM. THEN YOU CAN COME BACK HOME COVERED IN HIS BLOOD AND WE CAN LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER!”
The chair was destroyed by the time she was done.
Blackhat stared at her, shocked and confused, “Demencia… WHY? I’m trying to take him out to dinner, NOT EAT HIM FOR DINNER..” He let out a huff and growled in annoyance.
She smirked at him and Blackhat realized what he said, “No.” She has the weirdest of minds huh.
The lizard hybrid’s smile went away and in a second she was bored, “Ugh, fine. You’re no fun, “ she sat back on the broken chair, “what do you want to do then?”
She did enjoy watching Blackhat be so passionate about something that she never knew he liked. She found it odd but really hot. However, her proposition being denied was not hot. Murdering Flug seemed fun!! Flug doesn’t even know how to have fun. He just sleeps, eats, builds, and watches airplane videos.
Demencia didn’t choose to live the life of a third wheel, but she was asked to help by Lord Blackhat himself.
Blackhat picked back up on pacing around the room, “The picnic sounds like a great idea but it needs something more. I have to think of something he will like, perhaps enjoy alot.”
Demencia played with her hands, “yeahh….”
Blackhat: “I know that Flug has special interests in littlest of things. Like, building weapons, and airplanes! I could make a plane origami for him.. But that will take some time…”
She groaned, “You could just stay here and watch movies. Flug seems to enjoy watching a lot of airplane videos and where they were made and shipped too and how much money they cost.”
The eldritch nodded. Staying home seemed the most ideal part, but he wanted Flug to get a breath of fresh air. He liked the picnic idea, like he said before. He can take Flug to a secluded area, away from civilization, only Flug and him. Since it will be peaceful, Flug might give him a second chance. He can even give him an origami gift.
I’ve been practicing on how to make airplane origami anyways so…- wait. WAIT.
A great idea finally hit him.
“That’s it! Demencia! You’re a genius!”
Demencia stopped destroying the rest of the chair. She was caught off guard when he suddenly picked her up and spun around.
“Oh! Huh? I’m a genius? Pff, Hell yes I am!.... Of what? Exactly?” She was placed back on the chair.
“It’s such a great plan!” His grin crossed his entire face, his eyes in flames. He will take Flug out on a picnic and then take him to see Airplanes. Flug loves airplanes. The plan was fool proof! If sandwiches are out of the picture. Blackhat spun to his desk, eagerly waiting to write his ideas down.
“Really, my Blackhat?”
Demencia was still confused, but she loved to see how happy her boss was.
Blackhat turned back to her, grinning, “Yes, of course! The picnic is a great and evil plan to calm Flug down so that I can take him to see airplanes! He will finally see I am serious about loving him, this time.”
Demencia: “O.”
“It’s a genius plan!” The Eldritch threw his hands in the air, glad that he was able to figure out his master plan. And all thanks to Demencia. She’s actually being useful for once.
“Now leave Demencia. I have to get ready for this… date.” He walked to his desk chair, vibrating as he went.
—-----------------------------------------
As smart as he seemed, Flug was puzzled. He had never been in a situation like this before.
For the very first time, he had no clue what to do.
One side of him wanted to run away and never talk about foreign feelings ever again. While the other side wanted to ask Blackhat about them.
Sure, he wanted to kill Blackhat for making him feel stupid but… Demencia did say that he has been trying to get his attention for ages now.
And he wasn’t able to kill Blackhat, obviously. He is a demon.
The first solution was to avoid Blackhat at ALL COSTS. The first week, there were some failed attempts since Blackhat easily found him. Flug quickly learned Blackhat’s daily route and had multiple close calls of his boss spotting him. This only went on for a day and it made Flug extremely exhausted. It made him realize that there’s no hiding from his demon boss. No matter where he goes he’ll always be haunted about what their future interaction will hold.
So,
The second solution to this said issue was to curl up in a ball on his bed and wait until everything passes. It was a mere simple plan, but he didn’t take human necessities into consideration. Oh, how smart of him. Not even 4 hours when he suddenly had the urge to pee. This is a nice one time break. He thought. That is until he had to get up again to eat. He tried to stay in his room forever but could not last 15 hours without his body needing food.
“I should’ve stocked up before deciding to lock myself in my room… Ugh.”
So now, he was on his way to the kitchen, but noticed something odd. The entire place was quiet. The mansion has never been this quiet before. He assumed that the others were worried about his absence, which sometimes Demencia is because she can’t find him for his help on something. Though, he is usually in his lab so he was pretty certain that she was just messing with him. She usually messed with him, but she was nowhere to be seen.
Demencia??? .. Where is 505?
He became more attentive to his surroundings, but not caring about being seen by his boss. He thought about hollering out a “hello?” but the silence made him NOT want to do that, in case there was some hero sneak attack.
He made it to the kitchen in one piece.
And what he discovered made him want to go back to his bed and curl up into a ball.
The big dining table was gone, along with the chairs, but they didn’t just disappear. Oh no. They were laying on the sides of the walls, indicating that they were thrown because of the huge holes in the walls. His attention turned to Demencia who was sitting on the counter, facing him.
“What the actual-?”
“So, you decide to finally show up.”
Flug walked further into the kitchen, “Well, I was staying in my room for days but… that didn’t turn out as planned.”
“That isn’t how it works,” she crawled down, “You can’t run away from your emotions.”
“I didn’t come out to be given a life lesson. I want food.” He walked past Demencia to the fridge..
“Flug!” She grabbed his arm, “DOn’t you DARE ignore me. All of this is your fault! You're the reason why I’m stuck in the middle of your mess and Blackhat’s big muscly arms!”
He has muscles? Huh… The more you know… Flug desperately tried to ignore her and whatever thoughts he was thinking.
She continued, “Have you been listening?! He has been ranting to me, nonstop for 4 days straight. I can’t take it anymore! I love him, BUT I CAN’T. IT’S TOO MUCH. JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER ALREADY, I’VE HAD ENOUGH!
Flug began to make his coffee and shrugged, “It does not apply to me in anyway.” He felt a hard object hit his head. He turned and saw that it was Demencia’s hand.
“Blackhat ONLY talks about you. Flug this, Flug that, Flug is such a fuckin idiot. HE ALWAYS TALKS ABOUT YOU. IF HE’S GOING TO TALK THOSE NASTY GROSS STUFF TO ME, THEN WHY CAN’T IT BE ABOUT ME. I’VE HAD ENOUGH! GO TALK TO HIM SO HE CAN FINALLY LEAVE ME ALONE! “
She thrashed around like a toddler having a tantrum, and then punched the wall before letting out a sigh.
“You’re lucky to have someone like Blackhat fall for you,” she eyed Flug before collapsing onto the floor, “Out of everyone, he fell in love with you. YOU! He gave you everything he had and yet, you couldn’t see it.”
Flug slowly blinked, “But I see it now.”
Dem quickly got up and pinned Flug to the wall,
“No, you don’t.”
“Yes, I-”
“YOU DON’T! You say that you finally know, that you finally learned, but you don’t. You didn’t. You’re still stuck in that thick skull of yours. You don’t understand how much he loves you, but… I do…” She looked at him with teary eyes.
He looked at her, unsure about what to say.
The feeling of love has always been foreign to him. He never knew what it actually meant, and from what has happened in the last couple of days had him thinking. There was always a weird nervous feeling (butterflies) whenever he would think of Blackhat. He never knew what it was, or how he felt about it. He just went on with his life without a thought. He thought that maybe it was just him being nervous about the deadlines.
But then, last year on Valentine’s day, Blackhat came into his lab. He talked about some date, which he now knows was a date. However, during that time, all he could think about was Blackhat. He looked so elegant with that fancy suit and chocolates. Flug knew that Blackhat was asking something, but he didn’t know what he was asking. Chocolate. Reflecting more on it now, he just wanted to beat himself up. Chocolate. How could he have been so oblivious to it, to EVERYTHING?! Chocolate. SHUT UP I’M TRYING TO THINK.
A co-pilot?! REALLY?! Is that what he used to put two and two together?
Blackhat was right. He was an idiot afterall. A very stupid one.
But Blackhat didn’t care. He still tried to win his heart.
He and Demencia stayed silent for a hot minute. She had already moved away from him, staring at the floor, waiting for Flug to do SOMETHING.
“You’re right,” he broke the silence, “I don’t know the extent of his feelings for me, since I never felt them myself until a little over a year now… , “ He looked up at Dem, “but you do. You know about feelings, since you had to live with them for almost your entire life.”
Demencia made eye contact with him, “... And what are you suggesting?”
Flug fidgetted a little, “I know that y-you already had to help Blackhat with his ramblings, A-AND you already helped m-me with the date a few days ago, b-but… I-..”
Demencia raised her eyebrow while crossing her arms, “yeah?”
“I-I was hoping.. If. if you could… if you could help me… again… With emotions! And.. talking to Blackhat…”
She glared at him.
“Please?” Flug pleaded. She stared at him for a while, as if judging to see if he was worthy (and seeing if she had the mental capacity to actually help the nerd).
“Blackhat will s-stop bothering you with his issues about me-e….”
Demencia rolled her eyes, “Fineeee, come on. Let’s go to my room.” She attached to the walls and left the kitchen.
Flug squinted at her, “You have a room???”
—----
So, her room was rather clean. Cleaner than his room and it shocked him since she was always making a mess inside the mansion. Maybe she’s always been this clean and I never realized it since she never lets anyone into her room.
“Sorry, about the cleanliness. I was trying to find my CD player.” She closed her room door and motioned Flug to sit on her bed. Like the room, her bed was done. The sheets were the same color pallet as her and she had Blackhat plushies on her bed. She even had a lime green plushie barring its tongue and teeth. Once Flug sat down, she walked to her closet.
“... Ah…”
At least she cleans her room.
In a few seconds, she came back from the closet with her bulky laptop and sat down beside Flug.
“I did not do this with Blackhat since I don’t think he needs any pointers, but I think you will need it….. I was going to write all of it down, buuuutt, I break handheld things rather quickly, so, typing it is.” She pulled Google Docs and created a new document titled, “______ waaaa ____________ “.
Flug let out a curious huh.
Demencia made a numbered line.
1.
She turned to him, “So tell me, whenever you look at Blackhat, what do you feel?”
Flug thought for a moment, “Um…. I feel.. Rather warm?”
She gave an approved nod and typed down his answer, “What else do you feel? Or think?”
“I feel… nervous? I think? It’s like..,” his hand moved to his stomach, “Butterflies in my stomach. And I somehow want to be close to him, but I don’t know how. It’s like… I have this sensation, to be… held… by him.”
Demencia typed some more. Flug continued, moving his hand to his chest,
“I want to know all about him. I want to know what goes on in his head. I want to understand his thinking process. I want to understand him, not just as a boss, but as his own being.”
Demencia nodded and finished typing, “anything else you would like to add?”
He thinks for a moment and shakes his head no.
“Okay, well. Flug. Did you ever feel this way with someone or something?”
“Hmmm…. There is one particular airplane model that I am very fond of, but the feeling wasn’t as strong. And then there’s 5.0.5, but that’s more like a father to son liking, which I already figured out.”
“What is your definition of the word “Fond”?”
“I define it as being very interested in something that brings me joy. Something that I can look at from time to time and think, “wow.. This is what I need.”
“Would you say, then, that you are fond of Blackhat?”
“... I would say so… But … The word doesn’t feel right, because it’s not a time to time feeling.”
“Is the feeling stronger and lasts long whenever you’re with Blackhat?”
“Yes.”
“Does that strong feeling make you want to be held by him forever?”
“Yes.”
Demencia stopped typing and smirked, “Well well well, Flug. I will continue going but.”
Flug stared at her, “um.. Yes?”
“Seems to me that you have feelings for Blackhat.”
He blinked, “meaning???”
“You are, in fact, deeply in love with Blackhat.”
“.... What?”
“You’re in love with Blackhat. You like him.” She set her laptop to the side, “those feelings you described to me right now. Well, it's blatantly obvious you’re feeling SOMETHING for Blackhat, even if you yourself don’t.”
“So.. I have feelings for Blackhat and… I didn’t know ?”
“It’s alright. A bunch of people don’t understand the true feeling of liking someone, so it’s a learning experience for everyone. Especially for you. A workaholic, never giving thought about others. Only enjoying hearing heroes scream and cry in pain-”
“Actually, their cries are rather annoying-”
“Yeah yeah, you get my point.” She swapped her hand in Flug’s face, “but now do you understand?”
“Kind of..” Flug rubbed his neck, “But it’s a lot better than the co-pilot example. It's clearer. It’s just… A hard concept to wrap my head around, since I’ve never experienced anything like this before. You broke it down for me to understand how to identify the term. Thank you, Demencia.” He smiled under the bag, and Demencia grinned, happy about her accomplishment.
“Now that you know about how you feel, are you going to talk to Blackhat now?”
Flug shrugged, “ Not now… I have to figure out these feelings first and study more about dates… And figure out how to talk to him.”
“Don’t worry!” Demencia stood on her bed, “Your communication expert is here. Just go up to him and say “ey, papi chulo.” And he’ll come running!”
First off, it sounded like a plan… Secondly, it was a terrible plan. Flug did NOT want to say that, “uhhh.. I think I’ll pass on that…”
She opened her mouth as if to say something but stopped. She brought her hand to her chin, “Why??? It usually works.”
“Keyword, usually.”
She rolled her eyes, “what then? Do you have a better plan?””
Flug stood up from the bed, “Yes, I do, “ He glanced back at Demencia, “and it requires your enthusiasm and a lot of studying.
… It took him longer than anticipated to do the one task he made himself do. Three days, to be exact.
Half of the first day, he tried to stay in his room. He was on Google for the main portion of his time, searching up dating advice, etc. Until his laptop would notify him of customer emails.
He would then check them, and start working on blueprints for the said weapon request. Queue two days later, Demencia decided to check up on him for once and saw Flug sitting by his desk ; sweating, breathing heavily, with a pencil in hand and blueprints on the desk. No dating advice book or Google in sight.
She decided to destroy his days of work and made him stay in her room, letting him use her laptop.
Others would’ve been frustrated or angry or upset about their hard work being destroyed in front of their face, but Flug wasn’t either of those things. He rather enjoyed it. She had never shown that much interest in helping him and ripping his prints to shreds had to be the smartest thing she’s ever done. Locking him in her room was also a big brain move.
It was also very convenient! She rarely left her room ( Black Hat was nowhere to be found) and was at Flug’s disposal whenever he had any questions.
“How do I even ask him out on a date?” Flug asked while looking at the laptop screen. Demencia looked up from her switch game and shrugged, “I don’t know… Maybe blurt it out, like last time?”
“I didn’t know what I was saying last time.”
“Then just go up to him and say you want a second chance.”
“..... That makes it sound like I cheated on him!.”
“You sure do spend a lot of time with airplanes.” She went back to her game.
“You aren’t helping.”
“Yeahhhh. I can’t exactly help you with this part because I’m pretty sure that whatever I say, you’ll hate and will end up doing whatever you feel like doing.”
She was right. Flug couldn’t ask for help during this part. Everything that he saw on Google made him cringe and gave him second hand embarrassment. The solutions kept on telling him to say some corny lines and Flug does NOT have that much confidence to say them.
“UGH!” He collapsed on the bed with his hands spread away from his body. The laptop on his stomach sent warmth through his entire body. “Why is this so hard! Why can’t it be simple, with steps that everyone follows!?”
“Yah know, I ask the same thing. Why can’t everyone just murder whenever? It helps population control, does it not?”
“I mean, yeah, but. That isn’t what I’m talking about. “
Demencia sighed and set her Switch to a side, “Look, Flug. Not everything will be laid out for you. The answers don’t just appear whenever you ask them to.. You gotta… You just have to live and learn. That’s how you survive. You get out of your comfort zone and learn.”
He was taken aback from the words that came out of her mouth. Flug never met this side of Demecia, but he liked it. All of her knowledge came from everything she did and what she’s seen. He always thought that she didn’t know what she was doing and just acted on impulse. However, now he’s able to see how smart she actually is. She’s way smarter than him.
“What happened to your MURDER COMMIT ARSON side?”
Demencia grinned, “Actually, it's ARSON COMMIT MURDER !! and don’t get your hopes up! I couldn’t sit back and let the stupid nerd destroy his life over one stupid thing, huh?” She lightly punched Flug on the shoulder, causing him to sway back a little bit, but he didn’t mind. It was one of the softest playful punches she ever gave him and it made him smile,
“Yeah yeah, if you say so.”
They kept quiet in the room for a while. Demencia went back to her game and Flug went back to searching up every possible thing of dating. He doesn’t know why he continued, tho. He already knew that searching up unanswerable questions was just wasting his time from what was actually happening to him.
But he still didn’t want to make a fool of himself… Again.
He needed to suck it up and just go for it.
He took a deep breath, alerting Demencia, “hey, I’m ready.”
Demencia looked up from her game, “You sure?”
“Yes.”
“Positive?”
“.. Yess?”
“Absolutely, Positively, ready?”
“ Demencia, you're making me nervous.”
“Ahga! I was just messing with you.”
“That doesn’t help either.”
“Okay, okay, I’ll shut up. SO here is my plan, first, we dress you up in -”
“Is that really going to work?”
“I- Yes BUT HUSH. DOn’t interrupt me. I already know what Blackhat is planning on. I know what I’m doing. Just listen.
They went over the plan. First, Demencia had to see if Blackhat wasn’t busy, while Flug dressed up in formal attire that she gave him. He wasn’t a fan of it since it wasn’t in his usual style. Not that he had one anyway. He was about to complain but Demencia cut him off with a conversation that would be summarized to,
“Either you get your shit together or i'll steal him from you, “
He did not like that one bit, so he is going to trust her judgment. Is this also Blackhat’s shirt? …. Doesn’t matter right now.
The second part of the plan consisted of Flug going up to Blackhat’s office and asking him out. Simple plan… Totally…
Extremely simple.
If it was such a simple plan, then why was Flug sweating up an ocean? A small part of him wanted Blackhat to not be here. Flug didn’t want to deal with the awkwardness of the date.
He tried to shake off whatever anxiety he had, but his entire shirt stuck to him like cement. Great.. My sweat ruined the shirt. Demencia pulled him into the hallway leading to Blackhat’s office, not caring about the gross sweaty shirt she touched.
“You got this!”
“No, I don’t!” He whispered back, “This is going to be a disaster. I’m sweating so much, the clothes are ruined, I’m shaking, I can’t breathe! This is not okay!”
“Hey hey, it’s ok. Just breathe..”
“I’m trying!!!
“That, what you're doing right now? Yeah that? That’s not breathing. You're hyperventilating. COME ON, I thought you were ready!
“I AM READY!”
“Ready for what?”
The two jumped at the sudden voice joining the conversation. They both turned to see Blackhat behind them, raising an eyebrow. It seemed like he noticed the weird situation Flug was under, “I was on my way to speak to you, but it looks like you got yourself in a nerving situation. I’m intrigued.” He grinned, and Flug could not stop staring.
Demencia cleared her throat, “Well, my Lord. Flug,” she slapped his back, causing a yelp to come out of him, “has something to ask you.” The scientist did a quick nod. This is going to go terrible. Demencia WHY.
Blackhat leaned closer, “then ask away,” and softened up his smile, making DIRECT eye contact with Flug.
“Aha yes, Uh,” Flug turned to Demencia, searching for comfort in the situation. However, he was dumbfounded seeing her at the opposite side of the room now, mouthing the words, “You got this!”
This is it. This is how he died from embarrassment. From nerves. From sweating a lot.
“Well?”
He turned back at Blackhat. He looked at him with patience, as if they had all of the time in the world. Which, Blackhat can live forever but Flug is a human and DOESN’T HAVE FOREVER SO HE HAS TO DO THIS NOW. Both of them kept eye contact for a few seconds, in silence, while Flug quietly hyped himself up. Finally, he took a deep breath,
“I-... I wanted to apologize…..” Direct eye contact.
“For what?” He stepped closer.
“For what happened that day…” Tapping my fingers together.
“ What day?”
Oh, god. He is WAY TOO CLOSE TO MY FACE.
Flug fidgeted around, desperately trying to calm down while standing in the same spot, “THE… the date day…”
Blackhat’s smile faded. Flug continued,
“I… I honestly don't kn-now what you meant. I-i thought I did, but… Turnss out we each had different d-definitions of what liking someone looks like… I-i’m sorry that I-i made you feel that way…”
“I understand, Flug.” He swiftly moved away from Flug’s face.
Suddenly, it felt like the universe finally gave Flug the courage to speak for once, “A-and! I am hoping.. That we can do… a redo? “
“Of course!”, he coughed, correcting himself, “I mean, of course.” Blackhat said it a little too excitedly, but Flug wasn’t bothered by it.
Flug: Great! When shall we-
“I was thinking now! You are dressed for the occasion afterall.” Blackhat eyed him up and down.
“Oh, uh yeah, aha.. W-wait what? How did-”
“Demencia gave me a heads up. It wasn’t pre planned or anything.” His creepy grin was back.
They both walk into Black Hat’s office, which unsurprisingly, is already decorated with the same decorations as the last date, only this time the table is bigger.
A chair was pulled out for Flug, by yours truly. It was already feeling A LOT as the last date, but nonetheless, Flug was prepped and ready for take off.
But the internal systems of human anatomy loves doing this thing when you’re nervous or embarrassed. If Flug said that he was not sweating, then he would be shot dead for lying. He was sweating like there was a literal cumulonimbus cloud where he sat, ruining his composure and outfit.
The more his boss stared at him from across the table, the worse the sweat got. How am I going to initiate this conversation? Why is he looking at me like a snack? Does he notice my sweat? Oh no this is embarrassing.
[[ Meanwhile, In Blackhat’s mind, Is that my shirt? I was looking for it everywhere. ]]]]
Flug took a few breaths, desperately shaking off every emotion he felt. All he had to do was follow the steps on “WikiHow Ultimate Guide to Dating”. He needed to put himself out there! He needed to ask basic questions like hobbies. Another thought came into his head, that maybe he could talk about Airplanes again.
WAIT NO. TOO SOON. He already talked about airplanes his last date, and looked where it got him.
Another question could be asking Blackhat what he does for a living… Which… IS STUPID. They live and work together! Flug needed to think of a good talking starter and outcome, and so he decided to go with the old classic.
“Nice weather we’re having, huh?” Nailed it.
Black Hat raised his eyebrows, judging the most horrid question, “We’re inside….”
Flug nervously chuckled, beginning to feel sick.He could feel all his blood leaving his body.
The other shrugged, “But yes, for others I suppose. I prefer the skies being a blood red,” he started to count with his fingers, “ thunder and lightning, raining acid……”
Flug nodded, “Of course, of course…. I guess you can count the sky being a little red, “ he pointed out the window, “it is a sunset afterall.”
“Hmmm… I suppose you are right.” Blackhat raised his hands to his chin, thinking about how the sky actually does look red… Well, that is what Flug thought at least.
“ I wonder what it would be like to fly a plane in acid rain. Would it rust the metal? Would it mess with engines? Would it melt through the metals and possibly kill everyone on the plane?”
There was that awkward silence. Flug glanced at Blackhat, to see him awkwardly smiling. I’ve done it AGAIN. Bored him out of his mind.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t be rambling on about planes. I really love planes… And. Acid….. And the color of blood….”
Blackhat awkwardly smiled. “Oh, no. It’s alright, my dear Flug. Those are some interesting questions that should be talked about…”
Oh my fucking god. This was going horribly. How did google make small talk look so, EASY?! He kept on talking about the sky’s description as if this was some sort of art museum. He really wanted to jump out a window and never return.
Blackhat, seeing how badly Flug was struggling, cleared his throat, breaking the tension, “On that note, I actually created a few plans for this… wonderful occasion.”
Flug nervously laughed, “y-yes? What would t-those b-be?”
“It’s a surprise.”
“O-oh. Well, I sure do LOVE surprises. Let’s go and have some fun because I am totally into being surprised.” Flug got up from his chair, sweating profusely. He even placed his arms to his hips, to make himself seem out there, ready for adventure. The pose reminded him of that basic pose every superhero does. He could tell that Blackhat was wildly confused, “Flug…?”
“Hmm? Yes, h-honey?”
Blackhat raised his thin eyebrow, “Are you okay????”
“Why, y-ess dear. Why wouldn’t I beee? I am extremely excited to see what will unfold.” He walked closer to Blackhat, only a few centimeters from his face. Blackhat, however, seemed to not be phased,
He looked at the imaginary camera and back at him, “Flug.”
“Totally not sweating my clothes off.”
In all of the searching that Flug did about dating, all of them consisted of kissing your “partner” on the date. All you have to do was look at their lips and go for it. How hard could that be right? Right????
“Flug?” Blackhat leaned away from him, trying to process this entire scene. If this was any other regular day, that didn’t involve Flug acting weird, then he would’ve gladly accepted a kiss on his thin ashy lips. However, today, it was not the case. Flug was scaring him,
“Though this could end with our clothes off in which case I calculated multiple outcomes of what could happen oh no I forgot the - “ I forgot the condoms and the lube!!! WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS?! IM NOT PREpARED, NOT NOW. HOW COULD I FORGET A SIMPLE DETAIL?! He began to hyperventilate.
No one would ever believe that Blackhat had the most expressful face known to man kind. He was EXTREMELY concerned. Never, in his entire life, a situation like this occurred, and now Flug was hyperventilating. Blackhat mentally slapped himself. All Flug was doing was digging himself deeper into a DEEP hole with tunnels leading to nowhere. He sighed and slammed the desk,
“FLUG!”
That hit to the desk brought Flug back into reality. He straightened up, “YES SIR?!”
“Stop that.” He pointed at him, teeth glaring.
Flug looked at Blackhat dead in the eye“... Stop what?”
HIs face dropped a little, “Acting,” then flailed his arms around, “l-like this. Weird!” Anyone could see the disgust on his face.
Flug started to get a little nervous. He thought this was what he wanted right? For Flug to completely understand. He sat back down and curled into himself, “W-what do you m-mean?”
Blackhat crossed his arms, “I can tell you’re trying too hard. You remind me of those geeks that never leave their room.”
“Haha, imagine that .”
“Flug… I’m serious.” Dead serious.
“... Is it that noticeable…”
“.... Yes..”
“Oh….”
Both of them took a moment of silence (RAH RAH AMERICA RAH. Wait. Wrong country). Blackhat then broke it with a sigh, “What were you trying to achieve?”
Flug began fidgeting in his seat, “Well, i-i… I thought t-that.. Since you h-have more experience, you w-would prefer if I became a little more assertive. Not some slow geek / nerd.”
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? Blackhat slapped himself in the face, desperately wanting to yell at him, strangle him even, and tell him that he’s perfect, but he took a deep breath, “Flug… I already love how you are, despite being a complete idiot.”
Flug stayed silent for a moment and started to cry.
It was Blackhat’s turn to hyperventilate. I MESSED UP AGAIN.
He ran over to Flug and opened his arms. Flug gave him a small nod, before proceeding with the hug.
“I- I didn’t mean it that way..”
“I know… Demencia explained it to me.” he sunk deeper into Blackhat’s embrace, “it’s all still new to me.”
“Well, you still know more than I do, that's for sure. I’m the idiot here.” He gently patted Flug’s head and had it rest when Flug looked up at him,
“You’re like… two thousand years old.”
Blackhat scoffed, “I’m not-. I’m way older than that, but that doesn’t prove your point. Technology is advancing too quickly for my taste.”
He let out a half-hearted laugh, “You want me to explain the entire wiki on planes again?”
Blackhat rolled his eyes, “Bleh. I thought the wiki wasn’t a good source for information… And one sitting was enough… Speaking of which… That surprise…”
Flug looked at him, confused, “Huh? OH! I completely forgot about that.”
“Great! Then it will surely raise your low spirits!”
“You planned this before I arrived huh… All this time I’ve been trying to impress you….”
Blackhat smirked, “Uno reverse.”
“What?-” He was cut off.
Immediately, they were transported to an open field. In front of them, laid a few small planes while there were bigger ones getting ready for take off into the sunset. There were also a few buildings in the background with big wordings on them but Flug did not even want to see anything that wasn’t planes. There were so many planes that Flug could not believe his eyes, “wow……” He was just…. TOO STUNNED TO SPEAK.
“Does this make you feel better?”
BETTER?! There was no word that could describe how he was feeling right now. He nodded rapidly in awe, “H-how did you find this place?”
Blackhat sighed, “That’s a relief… Um… Actually, it wasn’t too hard. All I did was google Best Airplane Sights To Visit. This was the first one to pop up.The website says that there are many activities to do here, which did sound like fun - for you- buuuutttt I don’t want heroes in our asses.”
“What?” Raised hidden eyebrow.
“This place is part of one of their headquarters. Cameras and sensors everywhere.” He pointed to a few that were lined up in the field and outside buildings, “But of course, heroes love sticking out like a sore thumb. Makes them useless.”
“Wooow. No wonder these planes look in top tier condition. And they’re so fancy!” Flug wished he had fancy planes like these, but he knew that they weren’t as great as his plane back at home, “Hopefully they abandon all of this.I would love to pilot one of those.. With you in the co-pilot seat.”
Blackhat purred as Flug laid on his shoulder, “That would be an adventure.”
They don’t speak to eachother, admiring the landscape and view in front of them. Honestly, this was nice for Flug. He hasn’t been out in what, days? Weeks? Months? He’s been stuck in his lab building weaponry, never having a chance to truly admire his passion, planes. Mmm… Planes.
This was really nice. Blackhat didn’t expect this “date”(???) to go this route. After he spoke to Demencia, he spent days planning the most perfect data, a date that Flug would definitely understand. He was so caught up that he did not see or hear Demencia sneaking up behind him in his office.
Let’s just say… He was surprised…
< “HAHAHA , YOU GOT SCARED!”
“NO I DID NOT!”
“Really?Because I never heard such a harmonious sound come from you, my Lord.”
“If you speak to anyone about this, I SWEAR I’ll- >
She told him that the nerd scientist was prepared for the next date. He was thrilled to hear that Flug was FINALLY going to speak to him, after being ignored for days. In one quick snap, the tables and decorations were in their place. Everything looked the same except for the table since he figured that a bigger table would be more comfortable for Flug.
Blackhat also got into his fancy date suit right after Demencia left.
He spent days coming up with an apology, and was GOING to remember every single word he wrote.
But…
That flew out of the window when Flug apologized to him. HE APOLOGIZED, FIRST. EVEN THOUGH HE DIDN’T REALLY NEED TO. Nothingless, Blackhat knew that it would make him happy if the apology was taken. Though, it made him feel like absolute dog shit. He TRIED not to show how he felt to Flug, even when Flug tried too hard to be a neurotypical person.
Their entire conversation threw the order of Blackhat’s date plans out of his mansion’s window, into the old lady that he somehow keeps on hitting with his desk, but it all worked out in the end.
Flug still liked airplanes and this area was the last on the date plan list. As long as he was happy, Blackhat was happy.
Though, there was something still stuck in his chest.
“Flug… I’m sorry for what I said that time,” he turned to Flug, waiting for a signal to continue his apology. Flug let out a hum as he left Blackhat’s shoulder.
He continued, “I’m.. sorry that I called you stupid, and tried to pressure you into something you barely had any knowledge of,” he grabbed Flug’s hand, “This time, I’ll make it right. I’ll… take a leap back for now, until you decide to follow the path your emotions lead to. I’ll wait centuries if I have to.”
They both stared into each other's eyes, making Flug tear up a little, “Blackhat, sir… I forgive you. I’ll think long and hard to make sure that I’ll follow these foreign emotions.” He wrapped his free hand around Blackhat’s hand.
Blackhat blushed a little with the word choice, but decided to choke down the comment. This IS a serious moment. He leaned closer to Flug’s face,
“Just say the word.”
