Summary:

Violet Lahote enjoyed being a shifter though her alpha was a jerk and her twin needed to chill but everything changed one morning when she looked into a pair of golden eyes.

Notes:

First, I’ll admit that I never thought that I’d write a fic for this fandom. But here I am. Second, this is heavily inspired by the fic Lone Wolf by Princess Alexandria over on fanfic.net

Chapter 1: Eye contact

Chapter Text

‘You better run Mr. Rabbit.’ I tease mentally as I chase a rabbit through the woods at what is basically a light jog for me.

I’m enjoying this time to myself, happy that I annoyed Sam enough that I was punished with doing the dawn patrol solo. While I enjoy patrolling with Jared and my brother, having time to myself is great. Especially cause Paul has been so angry. Also, Sam and the elders confusion at me shifting is getting old.

My name is Violet Lahote. I am the fourth to shift into a wolf of the Quileute Tribe here in the rainy state of Washington. Apparently, we are the protectors of the tribe from Cold ones or Vampires. Our shift was caused by the Cullen coven returning to the area. At least that’s how Sam explained it. I haven’t encountered the Cullens yet, they met with Sam to reestablish the treaty made between them and our ancestors shortly before I shifted. Sam and Paul despise them but I don’t know what to think.

I stop my chase when I catch a new scent, one that over powers everything else. Wild flowers and engine grease. Letting the rabbit escape, I follow the new scent up wind utterly captivated by it. Nose to the ground, I keep going, my wolf desperately wanting to know where this scent comes from.

“One more step and it’s war mutt.” A melodic voice threatens from above. I jump back with a yelp as I realize that I nearly crossed the border into the Cullen territory. I look up into the nearby trees as I hear the voice laugh at my reaction.

I feel my world drop away as I look into a pair of widening golden eyes. The beautiful goddess lounging on a tree branch suddenly becomes my world. Gravity no longs holds me to the ground, she does. I sit as I realize that I just imprinted on one of the Cullens.

“Of course my mate is a wolf.” The blonde sighs dropping from the tree branch to stand in front of me, the only thing separating us is the treaty line. I can’t help but let out a whine, my wolf upset that my imprint is annoyed with me. The blonde sighs.

“We’ll figure something out. You don’t stink as much as your pack mates.” She states causing my tail to wag. She raises an eyebrow at my reaction.

“Are you—“ her question is interrupted by her cellphone ringing. She pulls it out with a huff.

“I’m fine, Alice.” The blonde goddess snarls into the phone before handing up. I tilt my head in silent question.

“My sister Alice. She worries. Now, could you please shift, we need to talk?” She requests leaning against a tree. I stand up to fulfill this request but then I remember that I didn’t plan to change until I got home. I look sheepishly at the vampire.

“Let me guess, you weren’t planning on meeting anyone while out here so you didn’t thinking to bring any clothes.” She theorizes to which I nod emphatically. She sighs.

“How quickly can you go get clothes?” She asks, I turn to race home and grab some; but before I can, I hear the sounds of people rushing through the woods to get to us.

I start snarling ready to defend my imprint from whatever is approaching, when the two Cullens Sam warned about burst through the trees. The mind reader was in the lead with the burly blonde one following behind. The two male vamps tense at seeing me.

“Rosalie, are you okay? Did the mutt hurt you?” The big guy asks approaching my imprint. When he goes to touch her I start growling more ferociously.

‘Back off muscle head! If I can’t touch my imprint neither can you.’ I think glaring at him.

“Bring it Fido!” He growls, his muscles tense. Rosalie steps between us.

“Both of you calm down. Emmett, they are not a threat and you, wolf, my brothers aren’t a threat either.” Rosalie explains. The mind reader chuckles.

“She seems more upset that Emmett could touch you when she couldn’t cross the treaty line.” He explains. The two blonde vampires look at me as I start wondering if I can blush in this form.

“You’re a she-wolf?” Rosalie asks to which I nod before I look at the mind reader.

‘Could you please tell Rosalie that my name is Violet Lahote?’ I ask the messy haired vampire.

“She says that her name is Violet Lahote.”

“Violet.” Rosalie says slowly as if unsure how to feel about the name but the small smile seems to indicate that my imprint likes knowing my name.

“Oh that’s what’s going on. Violet is your mate. And you seem to be something to her called an imprint, Rosalie.” Messy hair explains. Emmett makes a noise that indicates that he’s understanding now.

“What’s an imprint?” Rosalie asks. I think about how Sam and the Elders explained it. I remember watching through Jared’s eyes as he looks at Kim. I can’t help but remember how my pack mates had assumed that I likely wouldn’t find a mate because I was a female shifter. Shows what’s they know about odds.

“According to what Miss Lahote has been told, an imprint is a shifter’s soulmate. The being that helps soothe the wolf when they are overwhelmed. You are what holds her to the ground Rosalie.” The mind reader explains seeming to like how the Elders described it.

“I guess that just leaves you without a mate, huh Eddy.” Emmett jokes. I tilt my head because the memory of the meeting Sam and the others had with Cullens, their alpha Carlisle stated that everyone there was his whole coven.

“Emmett’s mate is part of another coven up in Alaska, that’s why she wasn’t at the meeting.” Eddy explains. Rosalie frowns in my direction.

“Why weren’t you at the meeting?” She asks clearly disappointed that we could’ve met two weeks earlier.

‘I became a shifter a week ago.’ I think.

“She wasn’t part of the pack yet. Though that begs the question when your alpha was going to inform us that your numbers were growing.” Eddy remarks. I can’t help but whine and look guiltily at Rosalie, my tail dropping. Rosalie crouches down so she’s level with my hunched form.

“Violet, whatever you say I promise won’t make me upset with you. Maybe your Alpha but not you.” She assures me. I gaze deeply into those twin pools of gold.

‘Sam was going to inform you…once the pack had a numerical advantage.’ I mentally explain. Eddy hisses seemingly in annoyance.

“Seems that Sam wanted to wait until the pack outnumbered us. We should let Carlisle know.” Eddy suggests. Rosalie hesitates before looking at me. Clearly conflicted between loyalty to her coven and wanting to spend more time with me.

‘I’m supposed to be on patrol right now.’ I think looking at her.

“Rosalie, she’s supposed to be patrolling right now. We should leave her to work and then later the two of you can talk.” Eddy suggests. Rosalie glances at her brother before looking back at me. I give her a confident nod but as I turn to leave I remember something and turn around to look at Eddy.

“Could you please tell Rosalie that I swear to never loose my temper with her or hurt her?” I ask Eddy as I remember the guilt that is always in the back of Sam’s mind.

“Rosalie, Violet would like you to know that she promises never to loose her temper with you or hurt you.” Eddy informs her. The blonde looks at me in concern before I give her the most reassuring grin a wolf can do and bound off into the woods.

*Rosalie’s pov*

I watch the large grey wolf run off into the woods. I had never expected that I’d encounter my mate but now that I have I'm honestly a little excited to see what happens. Though her promise about never loosing her temper or hurting me has me worried about her home life. I’m pulled from my thoughts as Emmett pulls me in a big bear hug.

“I’m so excited for you Rosie!” He exclaims excitedly. Edward just smiles at from behind Emmett.

“As am I.” Edward adds as Emmett sets me down.

“Thank you for voicing her thoughts Edward.” I say. While I usually hated the lack of privacy caused by his gift I guess it occasionally has it’s uses.

“I was happy to help. Though if you could tell her that my name is actually Edward I’d appreciate it.” Edward replies causing Emmett to laugh as I smirk.

“We should probably get back to house before Alice or Esme get even more worried. Alice was panicked when she called and told us that you disappeared from her view near the border.” Emmett suggests. I roll my eyes.

“I told her I was fine.” I remark as we dash off through the woods.

“You know how she gets when her visions don’t show us.” Edward points out to which I nod.

“So how’s this going to effect the treaty?” Emmett asks.

“Carlisle will likely welcome Violet with open arms but I have no idea how that punk Sam is going to react.” I answer. The wolf trio we meet two weeks back did not make a good impression.

“Violet’s memories indicated that Sam has a bit of a temper.” Edward adds. I can’t help but hiss.

“Has he ever hurt Violet?” I growl. To Hell with the treaty, if Sam is mistreating my mate, I’ll turn him into a rug.

“Not from what I could see in her mind. She does have a memory of Sam hurting his imprint after loosing his temper and shifting while too close.” Edward answers.

“That explains Violet’s promise.” Emmett remarks but before I can reply I’m tackled by Alice and Esme. The two women are clearly relieved that I’m unharmed.

“When I could no longer see you, I was so worried.” Alice whimpers hugging tightly. I give her and Esme a reassuring hug to help soothe them

“I told you that I was fine.” I remind her as the two step back. Esme just smiles before looking at Emmett.

“So who’s Violet and what did she promise?” She asks. Emmett gestures towards me.

“This is all Rosie.” Emmett explains as Carlisle and Jasper approach.

“Then shall we move this inside?” Carlisle suggests suspecting that this will be a long conversation. Once we are all relaxed in the living room, those who don’t know what’s going on look at me.

“So there’s good news, bad news, and concerning news.” I begin. Alice and Esme tense while Carlisle gives me his full attention; Jasper just nods for me to continue.

“Bad news is that the Quileute wolves are growing in number. The concerning news is that their Alpha didn’t plan on telling us this until they had numerical superiority.” I inform them. Jasper nods seeing the logic.

“Tactically that makes sense.” He points out.

“How did you learn all this?” Carlisle asks concerned.

“One of the new members of the pack, Violet Lahote, is my mate.” I tell them. Alice sequels in happiness as everyone smiles.

“Oh I can’t wait to meet them.” Esme states an excited gleam in her amber eyes.

“I’ll have to call Billy Black requesting a meeting with the Pack to amend the treaty. This Violet is practically part of the family and should be allowed in territory.” Carlisle states. I smile at how accepting everyone is.

“Don’t tell them why we want to amend it. I think Violet would prefer telling them herself.” I request to which he nods before leaving to make the call.

“I have to go through my recipes to see what I should make for her first visit.” Esme states heading into the kitchen.

“I’m so excited to see how this turns out Rosalie.” Alice says happily.

“Me too” I reply with a smile.
