Encounter with Tomorrow

Summary:

Prior to Syrup moving into the Nuts House, it was one of those nights where he had those dreams of his missing past but also an encounter with a slumbering angel. One who would not make her move until a decade later.

Work Text:

Throughout a town with 19th century architecture which would make one think this was somewhere in France (it wasn't), it was late at night and a storm was passing through the hometown of the Yes Precure 5, thunder and lighting were visible overhead and it was a couple minutes until midnight.

We turn our attention to the clocktower and inside was one Shiro Amai better known as Syrup and a small pink penguin-like creature known as Mailpo, the former's companion. The former was trying to sleep but the storm outside was making that difficult for him. It was also affecting him in his dreams.

In the dream world, Syrup -who was in his true form- could be seen walking around a rose garden.

"The Cure Rose Garden, I'm here again."

Syrup was taking in the scenery of the clear sky and admiring all the roses as far as he could see, and from a distance he could make out the figure of a woman, she too was admiring the rose garden and Syrup seemed to recognize her.

"Flora-san!"

Syrup called out to the woman, who turned around and had a look of surprise on her face, as if she hadn't seen him in a long time. He tried to run towards her but the surroundings around them began to break apart, the sky muddled to a gray and the path behind him began to fall into the abyss below.

Syrup transformed into his human form as an attempt to get to Flora faster but it was no use, the path behind him continued to break, Flora who was still standing where she was reached out a hand for Syrup to grab but before he could reach Flora, the ground broke underneath Syrup as he fell into the abyss.

"FLORA-SAN!!"

As Syrup was caught up in the nightmare, back in reality the clocktower struck midnight. The bell's toll could be heard across the town but it didn't wake Syrup or Mailpo.

The storm continued to rage outside, lighting seen in the distance but a stray bolt of red lightning struck the clocktower.

"Flora!"

Syrup woke up, sitting up and breathing heavily. It happened again, a reminder of his missing memories. The Cure Rose Garden, Flora, just what did it all mean to him? Taking a glance at his surroundings, something seemed off.

"Mailpo, where are you?"

Syrup called out to his companion-his partner, he was met with no response. Could she be outside? Syrup thought to himself. So he stood up, brushed himself off and climbed up the ladder towards the clocktower's balcony.

"Mailpo! Where did you go!"

What he saw outside was far from normal, the sky was a dull mixture of colors that seemed unnatural, from above, Syrup could see that the town was in ruins with no signs of life aside from himself. Even the clocktower showed signs of damage, chips and broken off pieces.

"What- what happened?", Syrup tried to process the scene that was in front of him.

"Humans."

Syrup looked to his left and was met with a black angel who wore an emotionless expression. He jumped upon seeing her and fell to the floor.

"Humans? What do you mean? Who are you!"

The angel took a glance at Syrup and continued to look towards the ruins.

"I am Bell. Humans did all this, and this town is destined for ruin if this continues. I will not allow it."

Syrup then heard something from below, it sounded like the undead but not quite. What emerged from the town ruins looked humanoid, had red eyes, a gear marking on its face and markings of two halves of a broken heart on its chest, More of them rose from the ruins and began wandering aimlessly around what remained for the town.

They were Shadows.

"Hey, what are these things? What happened to the town! Where's Mailpo!"

Syrup demanded and was doing his best to put up a brave front. He wasn't sure if Bell was with Eternal or what happened to the town, too many things were happening and he was trying to make sense of it all.

"Time cannot be stopped. It can't be rewound. However..."

Syrup then felt a sudden pulse pass through his body, he felt like passing out any minute but saw a glow of red eyes come his shadow.

"I WILL change things. And I will be ready."

Bell's stoic expression was the last thing Syrup saw before his vision went blank. Followed by the sounds of the creatures he saw below.

Then he woke up. His eyes shot wide open and his breathing quickened, he sat up and looked around his surroundings and it felt... real. Sunlight was shining through from the ladder up to the balcony. The storm from last night has passed.

"Another dream...", Syrup told himself as he processed his thoughts. This was unusual from his normal dreams, who was that black angel?

"Mail!", Mailpo jumped onto his lap and flailed her small flippers, getting his attention.

"Mailpo!" Syrup pulled his small friend into a hug, slightly suffocating her and pulled away afterwards. The living mailbox looking at him curiously.

"Sorry. I had another one of those dreams again."

A thump was then heard which caught their attention.

"Owwww...", along with a familiar voice. The two approached the ladder that led down the clock tower and there they were met with one familiar scatterbrained girl who attends Cinq Lumieres.

"Nozomi, you okay?", Syrup crouched to meet her at eye level.

"Yeah yeah, I'm okay I'm okay!", she reassured in her usual cheery self as she got back on her feet.

Syrup's thoughts were still lingering onto that dream from earlier, combined with that strange encounter, he was starting to realize how unsettling this clocktower can be at times. Maybe he should take up that offer to live at the Nuts House.

"Syrup, you okay?", Nozomi waved a hand in front of his face to get his attention.

"Yeah? I'm okay.", snapping back to reality, Syrup took a look at Nozomi and realized she was dressed for school. "Shouldn't you be somewhere, why are you visiting me?"

"I'm just visiting my friend, that's all! Is something bothering you?", she noticed his slightly troubled expression.

"No, nothing at all.", he shrugged it off and Mailpo made her presence known by jumping on his shoulder. "By the way Nozomi-"

"AAH! Palmin!", Syrup's chance at asking Nozomi about the Nuts House was lost once a Palmin came into view and floated up towards the balcony.

"Syrup, help me get a snap of it!", Nozomi took out her CureMo and made a run towards the ladder with a high chance of slipping.

Syrup sighed for a moment and with a faint smile on his face, decided to help Nozomi before she got herself into some accident.

Notes:

I've had this idea ever since I saw Bell and thought: "Can't believe Syrup used to sleep in that clocktower", so I made a what-if scenario where Bell already occupied the clock tower during GoGo and Syrup had an encounter with the future angel.

As of this writing, it's 12/24/23, I know it's not the appropriate Christmas work. But I wanted to push this out and celebrate Otona Precure's end.

All I can say: Endings are my weak point, feel free to comment whether or not I wrote Syrup and the rest correctly. I'm Quailbardo and I bid you all adieu and I have "strong words" for Coco.
