Work Text:
The sun was setting over National City, casting a warm, golden hue across the cityscape. High above the bustling streets, on the rooftop of L-Corp, Supergirl stood, gazing out at the beautiful skyline. She was deep in thought, contemplating the day's events. Even with super speed and super strength, she couldn't be everywhere, all at once. Sometimes people got hurt, she still felt guilty.
Unbeknownst to her, Lena Luthor had been watching from the shadows, her heart heavy with worry for her friend. She knew the burdens Kara carried, and she wanted to do something to make her smile.
A few hours before Lena Luthor had been working tirelessly in her office at L-Corp, engrossed in a complex project that demanded her full attention. She knew that her best friend, Kara Danvers, had been running around the city as Supergirl, dealing with various crisis's, her phone had been beeping nonstop with emergency after emergency and she wanted to do something special to show her appreciation. After all, Kara's incredible dedication to protecting National City never ceased to amaze Lena.
Now, with a soft hum of her hidden jet boots (a new project), Lena gracefully descended onto the rooftop behind Kara. She had a small picnic basket in hand. Clearing her throat, she announced her presence, "Kara, I brought a little something for you."
Kara turned around to find Lena standing there, a soft smile on her face. The fact that she had not heard coming showed how comfortable she was around the other woman, how quickly and effectively she had slid behind all of Supergirl's emotional walls. "Lena! What are you doing here?"
Lena walked over, setting the picnic basket down and revealing a spread of delicious potstickers she had had personally prepared by a new L-corp Chef ( definitely not hired for her expertise in this arena). "I thought you might be hungry. These are your favorite, right?"
Kara's eyes widened in surprise and delight. "Potstickers? Lena, you remembered!"
Lena chuckled softly. "Of course, I remember. You've mentioned it a few times."
Kara couldn't help but blush at the thought that Lena had remembered her small confession. She was touched by Lena's thoughtfulness. "Thank you, Lena. This is so sweet of you."
The two women sat down on the rooftop, one light and one dark, their legs dangling over the edge as they enjoyed the basket of potstickers.
Lena handed Kara a pair of chopsticks. As they dug into the potstickers, the savory aroma filled the air. Kara couldn't help but appreciate the effort Lena had put into this simple, yet thoughtful gesture.
"These are amazing," Kara mumbled between bites, her mouth filled with delicious flavors.
Lena smiled back, heart unexpectedly full of warmth.
The cool breeze ruffled their hair, but their conversation was warm and easy.
As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, Lena and Kara continued to eat and chat. Lena marveled at how Kara's face lit up with every bite of the potstickers. She blushed slightly, there was something truly special about sharing a meal on the rooftop, just the two of them.
Kara looked at Lena, her heart full of gratitude. "Lena, you're incredible. You always know how to make my day better."
Lena smiled, her eyes meeting Kara's. "And you, Kara, make my life brighter every day. You're my superhero, on and off the rooftop."
Their fingers brushed, and a warm, unspoken connection passed between them. They sat in companionable silence, enjoying the beauty of the night and the comfort of each other's presence.
As the evening grew late, Kara finally spoke up. "We should do this more often, Lena."
Lena nodded in agreement. "I'd like that, Kara."
And so, under the starry sky, with the city's lights as their backdrop, Lena and Kara shared their potstickers and their friendship, and something else, yet unnamed, cherishing the moments that brought them closer together. For on that rooftop, even in a city full of heroes and villains, this was just them, an alien and human having dinner.
