Work Text:
Sun was tired, like really tired. Grizzco was a shifty business that would cut every corner with sloopsuits held together by tape and arguably the weapons and everything related to the building too. Caring for the work conditions shouldn’t be said in the same sentence as Grizzco.
But shady quickly earned cash was still quick cash so even though the last shift was barely met by quota and almost got crew wiped…another one was necessary for the super bonus, just a few points away! But it was what it was, they choose to work here. But at least it wouldn’t take much right?…then Sun heard a whipping sound,
They had clocked out. Their team had clocked out.
‘Great.’ They thought as they were sitting at the weapon trunk. Now they had to wait to get another team for the shift. But Sun noticed that there wasn’t silence, the music wasn’t the only thing there, they noticed raspy breaths and realized that one coworker hadn’t left.
It was a dark skinned octoling with the afro tentastyle, but that wasn’t what caught Sun’s attention, it was his piercing sharp and scary turquoise eyes.
The octo had turned around looking at the inkling and Sun quickly looked away after realizing they had been staring at the coworker.
‘Crap, i screwed up, he probably thinks i'm weird now, ugh’ Sun just kept internally berating themselves for staring. The octo resumed as if nothing happened and started training while waiting.
Sun stayed silent ‘Why is it taking so long for the shift to start???’ They wanted to be buried into the ground and disappear.
It had already been 2 minutes and their mind was starting to get bored and after a while they thought ‘Might as well…’ They got up and nervously made their way to the octo and made a sound with their hands to catch his attention.
The octo turned and looked at Sun, despite being shorter his eyes were like sharp knives stabbing the inkling with just a glance.
‘CrapCrapCrapCrapCrapCrap-’ Sun stuck frozen in place before trying to salvage the situation. They jumped. The octo turned away ‘I made a fool out of myself, haven't i?’ Sun just stayed there not knowing what to do as some time passed before the octo slowly turned around and faced Sun…
Then he jumped,
“Booyah!” Sun was snapped back to reality realizing what the octo just did. Sun then squidbagged and looked at him, the octo followed suit.
“Nice but what do you want?” The octo asked and Sun signed:
‘Squid party?’ He was surprised at the severe lack of words from the inkling.
“Can’t talk?” Sun shook their head and signed again:
‘Can but prefer not to’
“Oh. well i wouldn’t actually mind a squid party” Sun softly smiled and they started their squid party, the eyes of the octo didn’t feel like daggers anymore…kinda, still sharp and a bit scary but not as much.
and immediately,
TIME TO GO TO WORK!
Welp, they could continue after this shift.
But hey at least they socialized with someone today!
Hs would be so proud of them when they told him.
