trying not to move (it’s just your ghost passing through) [Art]

Summary:

Art for "trying not to move (it’s just your ghost passing through)" by prettypony!

---

"I kept just the one" she says wryly. "Didn't want to dwell on the past, but, well..."

...

"It was a very good day," she says, and Henry's heart shatters a bit.

Notes:

Hii, thanks for stopping by!

If you haven't read prettypony's fic (linked above +w+), go do that now!! I'm so serious- it is moving, and funny, and well-written, and- I'll leave the rest of my praise in a comment on the fic.

Otherwise, I hope you like my piece!

Work Text:

Upside-down on the left lies a sleeping Emma in a red bikini. She is wearing Hook's engagement ring, and a wave obscures the bottom-half of her calves. Upright on the right lies Regina in a simple white blouse and darker pants. She looks forlornly at a Swan-Mills family picture in her hand.

And to save you a head tilt:

Upside-down on the left lies Regina in a simple white blouse and darker pants. She looks forlornly at a Swan-Mills family picture in her hand. Upright on the right lies a sleeping Emma in a red bikini. She is wearing Hook's engagement ring, and a wave obscures the bottom-half of her calves.

Notes:

I still can't believe how lucky I was to get to work with prettypony for my very first Supernova. The fic was so inspiring and such a treat to think about and create art for.

The main idea was to position them in a vaguely circular composition to mirror the fic's theme of 'wanting a do-over'. Regina is her present-day self and Emma is shown as how she was on the Beach Night. The two focal points are Regina's picture and Emma's ring - what could've been and what actually was. Only Emma's eyes are closed because she couldn't see the possibility of their family.

I have more notes (2), but I'll spare you the details. (You can guess what they are in a comment if you like!)

I don't think I've ever put this much thought into a piece before, or study for that matter. This has been a great learning experience, and I hope my skills improve so that I can create even more and better swan queen art in future.

So, a HUGE thank you to prettypony. Your kindness and willingness to indulge my questions and discuss ideas meant the world to me.

And of course a big thanks to the SQSN mods and every fellow participant for all your hard work in making this event happen.

I'm also Ryagin on Tumblr, if you'd like to come say hi.

Kudos, comments- anything at all, will be rewarded with my entire (glassy, glowing) heart.
