You don't need to hide.

Summary:

“You don’t need to hide anymore. I know you want to return to your container, but you don’t need to hide anymore.” Chuuya wished he could shake the words into Dazai’s head, but he knows at the end of the day it would do nothing.

Work Text:

Chuuya was silent as he waited for Dazai to step out of Mori’s office. His eyes were slightly narrowed as he stared at the door. He knew that Dazai expected him to just up and leave. He didn’t notice how he would sometimes hide after a session.

Especially when a mission went wrong. And today was one of the worst they had in a long time. So Chuuya waited as the hours dragged on.

When the door finally opened, he kept his mouth shut as Dazai slinked out. Everything screamed to gather him and hug the pieces back together. But he waited until Dazai noticed him. When he got no retort, he quietly walked up.

His hand was warm against Dazai’s cold hand. The taller boy blinked owlishly at their linked hands before he looked at Chuuya.

“Come back to the penthouse.” Chuuya made sure to keep his voice as neutral as possible. Blue eyes met brown.

“You don’t need to hide anymore. I know you want to return to your container, but you don’t need to hide anymore.” Chuuya wished he could shake the words into Dazai’s head, but he knows at the end of the day it would do nothing.

So, he did the second best, he simply led Dazai back to his place.

If the taller was more silent than normal, well Chuuya simply ignored it. He saw how Dazai favoured his left side.

The walk was silent and almost tense. Dazai wanted to say anything to make it go away, but his throat was sore. And truth be told he didn’t have the energy to say anything. All he wanted to do was drown in a bottle of sake and then go to sleep.

But he knew with Chuuya keeping an eye on him that it wouldn’t happen. So, he simply kept his head down as they walked.

He hissed slightly when Chuuya pulled him to the bathroom. His eye wide as he took a slight step back.

Chuuya tilted his head as he just watches his partner. A sigh slipped through his lips as he took a step closer, making sure to show his hands. “What’s wrong?” His voice was low.

Dazai scratched slightly at his arm, nails trying to dig through the bandages. “Why do you care? You hate me?”

“Osamu, I don’t hate you. Sure, you are bloody annoying on a good day. But I don’t hate you.” Chuuya gently pulled Dazai’s hand away from his arm. “Don’t you think I didn’t notice how you would try and hide after Mori wanted to see you? And when you are back, working almost in a panic?”

Dazai was silent as he glared at the floor.

“You don’t need to hide Osamu.” Chuuya was gentle as he pulled Dazai against his chest. Just holding him for a few seconds, he could feel the shiver running down his spine.

Dazai blinked a few times trying to gather his thoughts but everything in his mind came to a halt. Chuuya was warm and maybe safe. And it was good. His eyes flutter slightly as his breathing started to even out.

“Before you fall asleep, can I check you for injuries?” Chuuya ran his fingers through the matted hair. He will focus tomorrow on getting him clean.

A small hum was all he got as an answer, but it was good enough. He quickly stripped Dazai, unwrapping the bandages. He ignored the guarded eyes, just as he ignored the scars littering his arms legs and neck.

He rummaged through the first aid kit getting out some antiseptic, cleaning the open wounds he could find. And another salve to help with the bruising.

“I know you want your bandages on but will it be fine if we wait until tomorrow?” Chuuya asked as he grabbed a pair of pj’s he had for Dazai.

Dazai was silent for a few seconds. “It is fine.” He quickly grabbed the pj’s getting into it. The material was silky soft, and he hummed slightly as he looked at Chuuya.

He wanted to ask why he was doing this, but he forced the words down. For a moment he just wanted to enjoy the pampering he was getting. And if he spoke it might end. So everything else can wait until tomorrow.

“Let’s go to sleep Osamu.” Chuuya pulled Dazai to the bed.

When they both settled, Chuuya pulled Dazai against his chest, just holding him until his breathing evened out and sleep finally claimed him.

The urge to ask the universe why and find everyone that caused him pain was almost overwhelming. But Chuuya ignored it. For now, his focus should just be on making sure his human was all right.
