Chapter 1: nene misses wxs

Chapter Text

Things never last.

It shouldn’t have been a much of a surprise to Nene when WonderlandsxShowtime disbanded. She knew it would happen eventually. It was more than crystal clear that Emu wouldn’t leave the Wonder Stage, in order to continue making others smile. And she and Tsukasa wanted to be famous, go further than just a silly theatre troupe. So…

…why did it hurt to leave so badly?

Nene thought this during her walk home from work. It was one of her many daily thoughts—and it was also what kept her up most nights. What would’ve happened if WonderlandsxShowtime hadn’t disbanded? What if we had stayed together?

For the most part, Nene didn’t regret chasing her dreams. But…would it be all that bad if they could’ve stayed in high school forever? If they could’ve been WonderlandsxShowtime forever? Hell, Nene couldn’t even see Rui. They knew each other the majority of their lives, and they didnt bother with a “hello” or, “how are you” anymore. Shit, Nene missed them. But, she knew that life had to progress and she couldn’t keep living in the past.

So…why couldn’t she listen to herself?

What the hell happened to the Nene who thought with her head, and didn’t cry herself to sleep at least once a week? She was getting tired of herself. Tired of feeling like this. Nene knew she had to get up early in the morning, but maybe reaching out to one of them wouldn’t be so bad? She grabbed her phone that was charging ever so slowly on her nightstand and looked through her contacts for an R. The phone’s light blinded her eyes temporarily as Nene turned it on. She blinked a few times to get used to the light before she found him. Rui Kamishiro. The stupid guy Nene had been friends with since she was six, although they’d drifted apart during middle school and after highschool. He’d be a nice start. Okay, then.

Nene: how have you been?

It took him a few minutes, but alas, Rui responded. Nene wondered if, after all this time, she should still use his first name.

Rui: Fine, thank you

Rui: Why are you asking so suddenly?

That made sense. After years of not talking, four or five full years, you wouldn’t expect for your (ex?) best friend to talk to you out of the blue, asking how you’ve been doing. Especially when she’d become increasingly popular.

Nene: curious

Nene typed out a long paragraph and let her thumb hover over the “send” button. Would she seem desperate? Ah, fuck it, who cares?

Nene: ive been missing you, emu, and even tsukasa a lot lately. i dont know why, but for some reason i cant stop wishing that wonderlandsxshowtime was still a theatre troupe. i think about it at work, during my freetime, and it keeps me up at night. i just wish we could still be in high school and i wish i was still sixteen performing for pxl. im sorry for dumping this on you all of a sudden, but i just wanted to say all this so i could ask if you’ve ever considered a reunion.

Immediately after, Nene regretted it. It had been, what, four years? Five? And here she was, asking if he could help her with setting up a reunion. Shit, how stupid could she be? And Rui’s lack of response didn’t get rid of her insecurity, either. Nene groaned as she put her phone down, getting comfortable and snuggling into her comforter. Why was this so—

Rui: For a while.

Oh?

Rui: Maybe we could get Emu and Tsukasa on board

Rui: It’s sudden, of course, but I have no problem with it

Nene: thank you. i have to get to sleep, so maybe another time, we can discuss this, then.

Rui: Agreed

Nene put her phone down once more with a relieved and slightly exasperated sigh. Emu would most likely be more than extremely happy to see them once more, but, in all honesty, would Tsukasa even have the time in his schedule? Had he moved on, and gotten over them? Hell, did Nene even have the time?

Ever since WonderlandsxShowtime had separated, none of them really were in contact with each other. It didn’t take long for Tsukasa to literally move to America entirely, for popularity purposes. Nene soon followed. So, she and Tsukasa, and Emu and Rui, lived in different continents. This would be a tiring challenge. Not to mention, finances? Nene was wealthy to an extent, yet rich was still a big stretch, though. On the other hand, Tsukasa really, truly was a star. He could possibly be considered more than wealthy. Emu, of course, came from a rich family. Still, coming from America and going to Japan would be pretty costly. So would coming from Japan and going to America, especially considering Rui was in college (Nene had no idea how he was accepted, given he most definitely had a long criminal record) and still paying it off. It would be easier for Nene and Tsukasa to go back to their home country, especially since they would get the chance to visit their families.

Nene yawned and brought a hand to her mouth to cover it. Planning out something so big would be a tiring challenge. How would they even get a hold of Tsukasa? Maybe they possibly could, since Nene had about a quarter of Tsukasa’s fame. Or maybe he still had their contacts saved onto his phone? Wait—would Emu even have time? She was the owner of PXL now, surely she’d be pretty busy. Nene was sure Emu would want to have a reunion, unless Emu had changed a significant amount since the last time she’d seen her, but could she? Jeez, there are so many complications to this plan…

And, where would they meet? It would be good to have the four agree, that way no one was upset about the choice. Most likely, it would be somewhere in Shibuya, unless they’d moved elsewhere. Emu most likely (or hopefully) did not move, since she still had PXL there in Shibuya, but Rui could be in more than a different city now that he was in college (somehow)…

The next thing Nene knew, it was 3:30 AM and it was about time for her to take a shower and get ready for work. Did it really take her that long? She might as well have had just planned it out with Rui. Either way, it was too late now to pity herself about that.

So, Nene found herself sleepily eating breakfast before getting to her work for shooting, and making sure the makeup artist who did her makeup for her hid away the dark bags underneath her tired eyes when she got there.
