Work Text:
“Maybe I was made to meet you,” Albedo whispers as Scara turns to see Albedo already looking at him.
“We weren’t created for,” Scara trails off, for love, for each other, for no reason. His instincts want him to reject the idea. And yet here they are, together. And yet somehow, some way, whether by fate or chance, they meet each other. It feels almost human.
“Have I told you the last thing my master told me before she left me?” Albedo asks, looking up at the sky once again. Scara follows suit, looking back to the stars. “She told me to find the truth and the meaning of this world,”
Scara hums acknowledgment, still a bit confused at the connection. As his thoughts wander, he subconsciously notices two constellations. Imperatrix Umbrosa and Acer Palmatum.
Simply put, Mothers are a subject neither like to linger on nor talk about in length. While there are rare moments when they talk, it is almost always after a nightmare. For Albedo, the conversation is filled with grief and longing to reunite with his master. And while the snippets Scara has heard don’t paint Gold in the most favorable light, he respects Albedo’s grief. The puppet muses that if he spent more time with Ei then perhaps he would feel a similar grief.
There is a beat of silence before Albedo speaks uncharacteristically hesitant. “I can’t but wonder if this is the true meaning of this world,”
As his words finish, Albedo's gloved hand takes the puppet’s. He quickly looks at the alchemist in surprise. Albedo keeps staring up at the stars as a quiet blankets them. The moonlight highlights the blond’s beauty as his blond hair almost looks white, his blue eyes look more like ice. Only fitting one of the most beautiful people isn’t even human.
Scara thinks about those words and something slides into place. He doesn’t mind if his true meaning of the world is Albedo…
In the past he would have hated to be so dependent on someone and even now some deep part of him is denying it. Yet, he feels at peace with such an idea.
Scara looks back up at the sky, he sees Princeps Cretaceus and Peregrinus. He realizes that both share a star.
