Let’s start a story. Lucius and Narcissa. A boy from a rich family, with no mother and with a troubled soul falling for the girl from the richest family in England, has two older sisters, and one of the kindest souls out there. Yeah right like that can happen but it did, although it was hard, they were in it together. They met at a new year ball that Narcissa’s parents set up for their rich acquaintances and enemies. He was right across the room and she was near the drinks. The moment Lucius's eyes landed on her, he had a feeling to go to her so he did. As he made his way over to her, Narcissa finished her drink and turned around to meet her mother’s eyes. “Now Narcissa, look at all of the boys here, one day you're going to marry one of them. Here is a list of families you need to avoid ….Abbott, Greengrass, Longbottom, Macmillan, Prewett, Weasley, Yaxley, Malfoy…. and that’s all.” “Yes mother,” Narcissa answered as her mother left to talk to one of her acquaintances. “Hey!” A voice came from beside her. She turned around and silver eyes met blue shimmering eyes. “Wow, you have really pretty eyes,” Lucius said, mesmerized by the color. “Oh thank you. It's nice to meet you, my name’s Narcissa.” “Mines Lucius. It’s a little crowded here, don't you think?” “Yeah I guess but it’s not like we can leave.” Lucius looked at her with a smirk and said “or can we. Come one, let’s go!” He gave out his arm to her and she took it with a shy smile. “Oh! Okay!” They made their way through the guards and to a plain field of flowers that was behind the house. little did they know that they would stay together forever, no matter the cost.
Six years later they were both in the same school, Hogwarts Academy. They hung out in secret because their families hated each other. They were now sixteen and they were developing feelings for each other, strong feelings. It started out with Lucius who knew he had a crush on Narcissa forever and watched her date other guys. He started getting really jealous, but he tried not to show it, and obviously, Narcissa noticed. She decided that she was going to confront him. “Lucius since it’s just the two of us, why do you act weird every time I speak with Justin.” “Oh um you know. I thought that you would spend more time with him than me.” Lucius responded nervously but Narcissa didn’t notice the nervous tone. “Oh thank merlin I thought you didn’t like him or something, but you know I wouldn’t do that to you. Anyway, I have to head back to my dorm. Goodnight my sunshine.” “Yeah sorry for being an idiot, Goodnight Cissa!” He said as she walked away. “My sunshine, yeah I’m her sunshine, not Gordon. He's an ass anyway” Lucius whispered to himself as he went to bed.
Narcissa's feelings started a few weeks after that conversation. At first, Narcissa was denying her feelings because no way he was her best friend and she already has Justin Gordon, her boyfriend. Then every time she looked at Lucius she would get butterflies in her stomach and every time he would call her cute nicknames, she would get flustered. Her feelings grew more and more to the point that even Justin noticed. “Narcissa, are you okay? You’ve been a little distant.” Justin had pointed out. “Yes, I’m okay but we need to talk.” “Oh… what do you want to talk about?” Justin said quietly. “Right. I want to break up.” Narcissa responded. “Why?” “I don’t love you and I know you do but I can’t because-” “Because you love someone else…fine, let's break up but don't come back to me when they can’t love you as I can.” Justin left before she could say another word. It was then that Narcissa knew she was in love with Lucius Malfoy and oh boy how would her family react to this.
After the phase of awkward excuses and avoiding each other, Narcissa grew tired of it. So she asked Lucius to meet with her that night at the pond in the forbidden forest. When Lucius got the note and he knew what she wanted to talk about. Although he was scared of rejection, he would have to face it sooner or later. That night they talked and when sunrise came they had their first kiss. After that whole conversation plus a kiss, they were finally together. Even so, they knew that they would have to keep their relationship a secret but hopefully they can share their love with the whole world one day.
Four years later they’re finally married and happily live in France. During the four years, they had to face their family but in the end, they won. Both families came to a joint decision that Lucius and Narcissa would be able to marry as long as they found a way to provide two male heirs for both families and then they would return from France to join the death eaters. That kinda backfired because while living in France Narcissa found out that there is a slim chance that she would be able to have a kid. She knew she had to tell Lucius and when she did they both came up with a plan. This destroyed her dream to become a mom one day but she knew what had to be done. They would tell their parents that they will not return until they provide the heirs and of course, their parents agree not knowing that it might never happen. Now they know that once Narcissa got pregnant they would have to return but of course, they didn’t think that she would get pregnant, which meant they were safe.
As time goes on five years later Narcissa has fallen ill and Lucius was pacing and panicking about how he didn’t know what to do or what was wrong. Now in one of France's best hospitals waiting for one of the Healers to come and tell him what’s wrong with her. As hours passed, Lucius was sick to his stomach. “Excuse me, sir, are you by chance the husband of Narcissa Malfoy (nee Black),” “Yes! Yes, I am. Is she alright?” “Yes, she is. Follow me please.” Said the doctor. Lucius was right behind the doctor as they walked into the room where he saw the ultrasound. His eyes widened as he turned to look at his wife, “Guess who’s pregnant.” she told him. “Oh…Oh!” He jumps up and hugs Narcissa with the biggest smile on his face. Both totally forgetting about the deal they made with their parents.
A few months later, Narcissa got a call. It was from her mother so Narcissa rubbed her stomach and answered the phone. “Congratulations! My dear!” “Huh!? What are you talking about, mother?” “The baby Cissa, your father and I just heard,” “Oh right, yeah the baby,” Narcissa thoughts going a mile a minute remembering the deal she had made with them. Lucius comes into the room with a smile turned frown upon looking at Narcissa's face, “I’ll call you back mother.” “Narcis-” she tried to say as Narcissa hung up the phone, “She knows Lucius. We have to go back.” “Ok we’ll go back but you’re not going to take the mark, I am. We are going to be okay Cissa.” Lucius reassured his wife. “Well with you by my side I know we’ll be okay. All of us.” Narcissa said putting her and Lucius's hands on her baby bump.
1 month later Narcissa is now 4 months into her pregnancy and living in a small house before seeing her parents and parents-in-law. That night Narcissa was moved to the hospital after the pain subsided and they let the family in to see her. As the door opened, Lucius ran into the room and their family walked, Lucius was already by her side, kissing her everywhere on her face. “She and the baby will be just fine. She has to take this potion for the rest of her pregnancy, once every week.” The Healer said from the corner of the room. They all turn to look at the healer, holding out a potion bottle with shimmering diamond dust, or at least that's what it looks like.
As Narcissas' mother goes to grab it, she tugs Lucius and tells him silently to get the potion. In a panic, Lucius pushes his own mother-in-law out of the way and grabs the potion, “Oh! Well, that was rude. At least now we know he’s yours.” She exclaimed as she pointed at Luciuss’ father, “Oh now you’ve done it Black-” “ALL OF YOU OUT RIGHT NOW!” Narcissa shouted as the room went still, the Healer quickly spoke, “Well you heard her, get out.” “Not you.” Narcissa grabs Lucius into a hug, her face buried in his back, “Cissa, I need to breathe. You wouldn’t want a dead husband now would you.” Narcissa's grip lessened as she choked back a sob as she said “Sorry, it’s just…” “I know. It’s going to be ok. I promise.” Lucius whispers to her.
Everything was fine except the fact that their family had learned their secret. While Lucius went to get his wife settled in their bedroom, their family started asking questions about how something like this could have happened. Then the Healer said she could go check and proceed to ask if they knew that Narcissa shouldn’t have been able to have a child. They shook their heads no in response, disbelief on their faces, how could they not know, and do Lucius and Narcissa know.
Upon airing, Lucius was there on the couch with paperwork everywhere, “Lucius! Son, what are you doing?” Lucius looking up in shock responded with “I’m doing work. What are you all doing here? Go home Narcissa doesn’t want any of you here.” “Don’t be that way son, we all just have questions.” His father said as they all took a seat on the couch. “What is your question then?” Lucius spoke looking at them and waiting for a response, “Did you know about Narcissa's condition.” Narcissas’ mother wisped. “What!” Lucius didn’t know they knew but if they find out it be over for them. Lucius. Will. Not. Let. That. Happen.
Finally, the baby had been born. The day was June 5th, that was the day their miracle came to be. “Congratulations, it’s a girl,” “Oh isn’t she beautiful, Lucius.” Narcissa whispers, leaning that baby up towards Lucius, “She is. Just like her mother.” The Healer made her way back to them asking what name they decided on. “Danica.” They both said, remembering that day.
—Flashback Strat—
They had just come back from the appointment. Narcissa was excited about learning what the sex was but, of course, her family and Luciuss’ family had already settled on the baby being male. Then processed to ask the same question over and over again. By the time Narcissa got home, she was exhausted. After taking a nap the thought entered her mind, what would she name it? Thinking about it all day she found herself looking at female names more than male.
When Lucius walks through the door, He and Narcissa look at each other. “What’s wrong,” “I don't think the baby is a boy. I think…” “You think it’s a girl,” Lucius said firmly. Narcissa nodded her head. “Well, then what names have you got,” As he smiled at her, she thought that’s the man I married, damn I’m lucky. They stayed like that until dawn and that’s when it hit them, Danica.
—Flashback End—
Their daughter's name means morning star, it is when the sun rises for the first time that day. After all, she was the reason they rose in the morning. They loved her from the moment they first saw her, her light blond tufts of hair, her eyes shining with life like the diamond on Narcissa’s ring. This little girl would be loved, cared for, and given a place she can always be safe and free, that place would be home. They would be her home.
The next few weeks were peaceful. They were also important because both Narcissa and Lucius needed to take about a month to bond with their daughter. It was a tradition that the baby would not be introduced to the outer family until a month of bonding with the inner family. The inner family are the people who will take care of the baby. This tradition was something they could both get behind. They really didn’t know how to tell their families that their ‘son’ was a daughter.
Lucius was coming back to their house when he saw someone enter through the door. He ran over and saw the door wide open, “NARCISSA!” He yelled, after a short pause, waiting for a response. When he didn’t get one, he panicked as he continued calling out to his wife. Knowing something was wrong deep in his gut. He hurried up the stairs going as fast as he could before everything started to blur together.
Inside this house, there was a man, a woman, and a crying baby. The man's name was Lucius and the woman's name was Narcissa, ever since they were ten they lived their lives together until today when they lost their lives. Lucius and Narcissa's breathing slowed and all they heard was their baby girl’s cry, growing louder and louder. They felt their lives slipping away, all they wanted was to hold, hear, and see their baby just one more time. Never in their lives have they ever felt pain like this. And like that their little girl was without a home as they took their final breaths.
