Work Text:

Sillage- the scent that lingers after someone or something leaves

I can still smell her even though it's been hours since she's left.

The air around me smells of tea, and herbs. I can even detect a small hint of the soft floral perfume I gifted her.

The sound of the lock on the door clicking is repeating over and over again in my head. I didn't even say goodbye to her, I couldn't move at all.

I knew she liked to travel a lot, she's the daughter of a nomad for spirit's sake, but why so soon?

She just got back from her trip to Kyoshi Island two months ago. Surely a little break wouldn't hurt right?

But how would I know? I haven't been out of the city in years. I can't help but wonder where our relationship stands.

Before she left she promised me that no one would interfere with what we have. I trust her, it's just that she has the opportunity to meet so many more women that have the same personality as her.

She's fun and outgoing.

I'm boring and introverted.

What is there even to like about me?

Finally deciding to get up, I walk along the hallway to our bedroom. 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙚𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢.

The scent is as strong as ever. On the dresser I spotted her perfume bottle.

She didn't take it. Maybe it was an accident? At least that's what I'm gonna believe. The rectangular cap is beside it. I walk over to the bottle before grabbing it and making my way towards the bed.

I hesitantly grab my pillow before spraying a small amount on it.

That night I slept as if she was still here. But, of course she wasn't.

She promised she would only be gone for a couple of months. Well, months turned into years. I was later informed she went to help her mother in the South Pole.

After years the bottle still remains in the spot I last left it.

But the scent no longer lingers.
