Work Text:
I was called in to visit Fate’s office, being his favourite employee it wasn’t unusual but something caught my eye.
Fate’s expression.
When he asked me to visit him late at night he was acting quite suspicious.
He was blushing. He never blushes. This whole ordeal was odd but honestly I couldn’t care less. I always want to spend as much time with Fate as I can. I always feel a little bit disappointed when our daily reviews come to an end.
But right now, I am not going to talk about work with Fate, he wouldn’t make such a big deal out of it. I feel like we are going to discuss different matters, I feel it in my bones.
Or maybe it’s my lovesick brain speaking… I hope not.
The elevator finally came to a halt signalling that I am about to enter Fate’s office. I prepared myself as the doors opened to reveal the room that I've always entered in each working night.
Once I stepped out of it I could see fate in all his glory. He was standing in front of the window, looking at the world. I couldn’t see his face, but he was in deep thought.
“You wanted to see me, sir?” Wanting to signal that I appeared in his office I started a conversation. As he heard my voice I saw Fate slightly twitch, did I scared him?
“Ah, Grim. Hello, you are finally here. Care to join me for a small tea party?” At first glance I didn’t notice that Fate’s office was equipped with two comfortable-looking chairs and a small table. Fate must have prepared them for this occasion.
When I came to the table Fate gently pulled a seat for me. I flushed at his soft gesture, it all seemed like he prepared a date for the two of us.
Fate sat down in front of me and began to pour a cup of tea.
“I hope you like Earl Grey, my dear. I tried to find the finest tea collection I could find, humans have such a wide range of teas. At least they aren’t that bad when it comes to delicacies.” Fate chuckled, reminiscing the old days when he had such a great contempt towards humanity.
I was still in awe, I couldn’t understand why Fate acts like this but I was too afraid to ask him about the occasion for such a meeting. Instead I opted for a different route
"Yes, I like it, sir. I don’t have any preference for tea so you can give me all you have lined up."
Fate smiled at my approval “Have I told you that you are extremely manageable? I hope you’ll enjoy our date.” He chucked again.
He was closely observing me. Such a gaze made myself feel even more hot and embarrassed, I wanted him to look away but at the same time I couldn't bear having him without his gaze on me.
“I-Is there something wrong with me, sir?” I inquired because I was afraid that there was something wrong with my appearance. Fate’s expression changed to a one of concern.
“Oh, Grim, you got it wrong." He actually smiled a tad bit more, he placed his hand above mine. "You look wonderful, the moon shadow truly suits you.” His gaze continued to stay on me.
Fate was amazed with how my cheeks turned a darker red, and how my cat ears twitched.
“Are you flirting with me, sir?” I finally gained enough courage to ask the question that has been bothering me since I arrived here.
Fate choke on his tea. Oh no, have I done something wrong!?
As Fate regained his composure he realised something “Oh you haven’t realised what I am doing, dear? Yes, I am flirting with you. I thought you’d know my feelings by now”
I was speechless. Has my forbidden crush really reciprocated my feelings?
“Umm, but sir, isn’t it inappropriate? I am your employee!” This had to be a dream.
Fate would never… he’d never…
“Oh my sweet Grim, don’t cry. Hush-hush dear it’s okay, we are okay.” I didn't realise that I started crying. I didn’t even notice Fate’s palm caressing my cheek, already wiping off my tears.
“Come here, dear. Come sit on my lap.” Fate invited me in with a move of his hand.
I stood up, listening to him as always. I moved rather quickly, eager to touch Fate.
Finally I sat down on him and then the next second Fate had wrapped his arms around me.
“Sir!… Why are you so nice to me?” I looked into Fate’s eyes, and what I saw was a true treat. Fate smiled so sweetly at me, his hands were caressing my back. And then one of his hands moved back to my tear-stained face.
“Oh dear… Have you not connected the dots yet? I love you, you silly Grim.” He cupped my jaw and looked into my eyes. I had to swallow a lump that formed in my throat, I haven’t experienced such love in my whole existence.
“I-… I feel the same!” And immediately after that I made the boldest move in my afterlife. I put my hands around Fate’s shoulders and pecked his lips.
For a few seconds Fate was frozen but when he regained his composure with the hold on my jaw he kissed me properly.
It was a sweet kiss that confirmed his feelings for me.
The rest of the date went rather ordinarily; we finished our teas, and we chatted for a bit. Fate complimented me throughout the night and when we had to part ways, Fate actually accompanied me to the door of my room.
With a final kiss we said our goodbyes.
And when I flopped to my bed I giggled and screamed into my pillow for the rest of the night hoping that Fate had the same issue with sleeping as I did.
This had to be the best day that I experienced in all of my afterlife.
