Chapter Text
Hey, so this is the first chapter of my new fanfic. Though I did add tags about trauma, after writing this chapter I feel it needs another warning. In the following paragraphs, I am going into a detailed description of a panic attack/flashback. This is going to be a theme for the story, I like to depict what things feel like. So if that is something that could be triggering for you maybe this isn't the fanfic for you yet (No judgment but I don't want to cause anyone trouble)
If you feel you still want to read it, here is the first chapter of Broken legacy:
***
The Sapphire looked around in the area she had just warped to. The building right in front of her resembled a spire but it wasn't one. She didn't have much time to ponder on that as she was almost immediately greeted by a way too short Peridot and a Lapis wearing pants. Both gems had at least one star somewhere on their clothing marking them as Crystal Gems.
"Yay! A new gem!" A tiny human ran up to her and wrapped its short arms around the stunned blue gem.
"Emily, let her breathe. She just arrived" the Lapis spoke up and the child let go of her prey. "Hi, I'm Lapis. This is Peridot and our daughter Emily." She turned to the Sapphire."I'm Sapphire cut 3XA." The newcomer replied.
"That is a long name." Emily looked to be deep in thought. "Can I call you Sarah?" She cheerily asked.
"Uhm... sure."
"Hmm. We don't have a Sarah in Little Homeworld yet." The Peridot finally spoke up. "Welcome, Sarah! How about a tour of the facility? We could start with the greenhouse. In fact, I'm sure I have a class scheduled. Wanna check it out?" Sarah only nodded and started following the gems and the child.
“So, what’s with the star?” the Lapis asked, motioning for the Sapphire’s skirt.
“What? Oh…” Sapphire looked at her clothing. “Well, it’s a Crystal gem tradition to wear one, so there it is.”
“Well, that is nice of you to try and fit in,” the Peridot said leading them on.
Sarah only chuckled and followed her welcoming committee. Lapis smiled but also didn’t comment. The peridot kept pointing out different buildings and people, most of whom were familiar to Sarah, although she didn’t know all of them on a talking basis. They didn’t seem to recognize her though and so she only waved at them when Peridot pointed them out. At what had to be the greenhouse, the Lapis and the Emily said goodbye and left the two gems to their own.
"So this is my horticulture class. I mostly have Peridots and the like for students but there is a Pearl and I think two quartzes currently." she opened the door and revealed five gems inside.
Sarah looked up at the Jasper-like gem and took a step back. She knew there would be quartzes but she had no idea they would be near her this fast. Peridot didn't seem to notice and Sarah tried to stay calm. However, without the vapor tears of blue her head just became fuzzy as she tried to take a step closer to the door. The green-orange Jasper seemed to notice her hesitation and spoke up. Sarah saw her mouth move but she couldn't comprehend the words. All she could hear was an Amethyst talking about defective gems. The door to the glass building seemed to shrink to the point that even standing a meter from it felt uncomfortable. Sarah shook her head, trying to get rid of the image of a hammer swinging toward her but it only made her feel light-headed despite her form being non-organic.
The Jasper took a step closer, which made Sarah scamper backward. She fell on her back before turning and running away as fast as her shaking limbs allowed her to do so. she stumbled over her feet more than actually ran but she couldn't comprehend that. She kept looking back, expecting some sort of weapon to hit her. The hit came from the other side, and she crashed into something causing her to stop abruptly. She whipped her head around with her eyes glazed over from tears and terror. The gem in front of her wasn't a Quartz but its superior size didn't help Sarah in any way. She felt trapped. Until the form of the gem started glowing and suddenly, there was a Sapphire and a Ruby in front of her. The Ruby looked at the Sapphire with worry written in her eyes.
"Hey, are you new here?" the Sapphire asked, still giving space to the terrified gem in front of her.
The question caught Sarah off guard but she nodded. She felt like she knew the gem and the gem’s tone suggested that she knew Sarah too. The fact that now two gems on her level were in front of her instead of one as big as a Quartz, also made things easier for her, although she couldn't help but look back at the way she came from.
"Don't worry. She isn't coming after you." the Sapphire looked behind the still-sitting gem. "I am Sapphire but you can call me Sophie. This is Ruby, she doesn't have a nickname yet." Sapphire's tone was soft and soothing and it slowly cut through the fog in Sarah's mind. "What's your name?"
"Sa... Sarah"
"Did something bad happen?"
"I... no?"
"It's okay. No one and nothing will hurt you here." the haze in Sarah's eyes cleared up and she finally saw where she was clearly.
"Yeah! And if they try, Garnet can kick their butts!" The Ruby said taking a step closer. The Sapphire chuckled and turned to Sarah.
She was still panicking but as the Sapphire in front of her kept repeating that she wasn't in danger, her thoughts gradually slowed down and she started feeling present again.
"Wanna get up and get somewhere warmer?" she held out her hand far enough that Sarah didn't have to take it. She did take it, the presence of another Sapphire, one she knew well, made her more comfortable. "Are you okay with heights?" Emma nodded and with Sapphire on one side of her and Ruby on the other they started walking.
"So, did you arrive today?" Ruby asked.
"Yeah. Yellow Diamond said you might be able to help me."
"We can if you'd like that."
“Do you think you are ready to meet Garnet?" Sapphire asked although Sarah could tell that she didn't think so.
"N... not yet. I just... Sorry."
"That's okay. We can wait" Ruby said as they walked up the staircase leading to the top of the spire.
As they went out to the open top Sarah was met with the outlay of the Little Homeschool area. Outside of a small rock fence, there was green stretching as far as the eye could see. Green at one point merged with blue giving a calm sensation. Inside the fence, there was a busy city. Streets filled with gems who from up here looked smaller than Sapphires. Sarah's eyes took in the sight with the first smile she had since the incident at Homeworld. She slowly walked up to the railing and looked around with her eyes glimmering. Birds flew overhead as some cats and dogs made their way to various places both inside and outside the fence separating gems society from nature.
"This is better than I remembered" she whispered as she tried to take all of it in.
"Welcome to Earth.”
