Chapter Text
Daryl walked down the aisle, keeping an eye out for walkers as Glenn gathered the items on the list from the drugstore. He paused, scanning his surroundings for a moment before leaning down to look at what caught his eye. He picked up a small bottle from the shelf, flooding it with light from his flashlight. He studied the red nail polish before shaking the bottle, just like he’d seen Merle’s girlfriends do when he was younger. He looked at the bottle again, making sure the polish was no longer separated in the container. He tucked the bottle in his bag before reaching down to the shelf and stuffing a few more bottles of red nail polish into his bag.
Daryl paced the length of the RV, watching the treeline to make sure no danger arose. He turned around as he heard footsteps, reaching out to offer his hand to Carol as she climbed up the ladder.
“I brought you dinner.” She smiled, handing him the plate she’d prepared for him.
“Didn’t haveta.” He mumbled, taking the plate and beginning to eat his dinner.
“I know, I wanted to. Someone has to make sure you keep your stamina up” She poked his side teasingly as she chuckled to herself.
“Stop.” He ducked his head. They sat in silence as he ate.
“Got you somethin’.” Daryl dug into his bag, pulling out one of the red bottles of nail polish he’d gotten the previous day. He held the nail polish out to her, smiling in his shy way.
“Oh, thank you.” She smiled at him thankfully, eyeing the bottle in her hand.
“Ya like red?” He questioned.
“It’s alright. I don’t wear it much.” She shrugged.
“Cuz he never let you.” Daryl’s voice soured at the mention of Ed. She looked at him surprised, shocked he remembered such a minor detail.
“You like red?” She seemingly changed the topic.
“Yeah.”
“Then I’ll wear it everyday.” She smiled at him, taking his hand and squeezing it before beginning to paint her nails.
