Scar wasn't sure what time it was when he woke up, but he did know that they definitely needed to get new blinds.
He wished he'd woken in a more pleasant way because whining about the sun first thing in the morning wasn't fun for anyone. Well, he'd be lying if he said that.. It was fun for Grian, but he hardly counts! He'd laugh at the wind if it blew the wrong way.
"Morning…" Scar grumbled, clawing crusted sleep from his eyes. Still disorientated, he twisted around, catching sight of a wild head of black hair. He couldn't tell whether it was Mumbo or Cub until he replied with a rumbling "Hi." That's his Cub, that's for sure.
"It's so bright.. Did you open the blinds, Grian?" Scar yawned, stretching his arms far above his head. It was a little difficult when he was trying not to thwack Cub upside the chin, but he managed, sinking right back into his side. He might have trapped his arm in the process, but he'd cope.
"I might've," Grian responded, bright and glowing in the warm morning light. Scar was beginning to think he was reflective. He could hear him giggling as he tumbled out of the bed, not leaving before he'd poked Cub in the face at least four times.
"What's it to you, huh?" Grian finished, his hands on his bare hips as he scanned the floor for a shirt to wear. Scar might've stared for a while before he remembered he was supposed to be angry, letting out a long groan of complaint as he sunk into Cub's side.
"You're so dramatic," Grian jeered, far too energetic for the time,"It's not even that bright out."
And so it begins.
Scar could hear Mumbo's muffled groan from the kitchen, a soft chuckle in his ear the only encouragement he needed. Sure, the way Cub was tracing every scar on his back also helped him feel a bit mischievous, but it was mostly the shared chuckles they had going on that fueled his need to be a nuisance.
Unfortunately, he just happened to be dating three other nuisances. This was a fight he wouldn't win too easily.
"It's right in my eyes! How am I supposed to sleep in these conditions, G, it's cruel!" Scar tried not to smirk, but it was impossible when Cub was laughing at every word that poured out of his lips. It made him want to turn around and kiss those giggles out of his mouth.. But Scar had a fight to win!
"Why can't we just get rid of the sun, huh Grian? I mean, I know you probably wouldn't like it much, you're named after the sun-" He heard Grian scoff at that, glancing over at him just to see the avian hiking up a pair of sweatpants. Respectfully, he averted his eyes, throwing both arms up in the air.
"-But surely sacrificing one sun is fine, we have plenty others! Don't you know every star is actually a sun too? We can go borrow one of those!" Scar chuckled.
He'd found he won arguments more often when he spoke with his hands, so he fell back on that tactic as he continued on spewing absolute nonsense. He was pretty sure Cub couldn't even tell what he was saying, but the man was laughing anyway. God, he was too cute when he was sleepy.
"I.. Good god, Scar." Grian sounded exasperated just from listening to him. He gave him a look of disbelief, his wings flaring out behind him. He was already almost fully dressed- Scar had no idea why. It's a Saturday, none of them have anywhere to be!
Unless they've made plans without him..That, or Grian's just weird. As if he could read his mind, Cub giggled, breaking up the silence. Scar wasn't sure how, but Cub sounded how stirring honey in tea tasted, warm and smooth and..
Goodness, Cub was really getting to him this morning. He'd go and pinch the man's cheek if it didn't take so much effort.
"You haven't actually proven me wrong yet, by the way." Scar sang, pulling his thoughts away from the half-a-sleeping beauty by his side so he could continue pestering his partner. How do any of them put up with him?
"You're unbelievable." Grian hummed. Scar couldn't disagree so he just stuck out his tongue, whistling when his avian partner bent over to pluck a sweater up off the floor. He got a sock chucked at his head for his trouble, along with a squeaked out 'behave!' from a very embarrassed Grian.
With a sigh and a roll of his eyes, Grian straightened up and turned to Cub, who'd previously been busy tracing shapes on Scar's back to have any verbal input on their argument. Scar was pretty sure Grian hadn't heard all his giggling, because he had that look on his face that said I've got you now. Oh, he couldn't be more mistaken.
"Cub, tell him off please."
"Uh.."
He must've been expecting Cub to help, but all the man did afterwards was snort and roll on his back, dipping the bed to get Scar closer to him. Scar immediately got peppered in kisses when Cub got closer, his smug smirk smooched right off his face as Grian watched in horror.
"You traitor!" Grian was dragging his hands down his face by the end of Cub's display of affection, lips pulled thin in a scowl before he threw both his hands in the air.
Scar could tell he was done by the blush on his cheeks- even Grian couldn't help getting rosy at the sight of Cub spoiling somebody. Nobody's immune, Scar would know.
"Fine, I give up!" Grian waved his hands. "You two can be as lazy as you want, but me and Mumbo will have all the pancakes eaten by the time you're done with your.. with your.."
"Shenanigans?" Scar prompted, "General tomfoolery?"
"No, laziness!" Grian chirped back, but Scar knew he wasn't scolding him for real. He looked way too happy for someone who was supposed to be mad! He could see the dimples showing on his cheeks even when he'd put up a hand to hide his smile. It truly warmed Scar's heart.
But then Cub sneezed so loud he almost had a heart attack.
"Oh jeez! Oh god! I almost died-" Scar was suddenly a lot more awake, sitting as straight as a ruler as he clutched at his heart. He could tell Cub was trying not to laugh, but Grian had started cackling like a mad witch at the sight of his shock.
"Oops.." Cub mumbled, his cheeks slowly turning red. He tried to pat Scar's shoulder to comfort him, but it was no use when he was flailing around dramatically.
"Dude, you need to warn me for sneezes like that. Gah, I've been contaminated by your sickness! Grian, save me!" Scar wailed, much to the further embarrassment of Cub. The poor man had sunk his face into his palms, only moved by all of Scar's exaggerated hand gestures.
"You know what? You're on your own now." Grian's smile somehow got bigger as he slipped through the door, both of his wings catching on the door frame before they squeezed through with a soft whooshing sound. "Byeee!"
"He is so mean!" Scar scoffed as he pried himself from Cub, burying his face in his hair for a moment before he pulled away. "You stink, you should shower, mister."
"And you were calling Grian mean."
"Hush, go destinkify before I kick you right out of this bed." Scar laughed, nudging insistently at Cub's shoulder until the man finally moved. He didn't get out of bed until he saw the bathroom door shut behind Cub,
letting out a long, cat-like yawn before he finally dragged himself from under the covers.
Scar reunited with his partners in the kitchen, stretching his arms far above his head. He'd taken one of Cub's shirts to wear for the day, even if the man had left it out for himself to wear after his shower. Luckily for Scar, it only took a kiss to solve the issue, and he'd left Cub to get a new shirt while he brushed his teeth.
Completely swamped by a t-shirt far too big for him, Scar lazily padded through the kitchen. It only took him a few seconds to notice where his partners had gathered up and he shuffled over to sit up at the table.
To nobody's surprise but his own, he was the last one there, letting out a half nervous chuckle as he settled next to Mumbo.
"Good morning, Scar. Have a bit of a lie in, did you?" Mumbo said, his voice as clear as day. He'd been up for a while, Scar could tell. His moustache was twirled just perfectly- he was convinced Mumbo got up so early just to perfect it every morning.
"It was all Cub's fault, he's too cuddly." Scar deflected, not missing the offended gasp Cub let out. He also didn't miss the targeted kick to his shin, howling in pain just to garner sympathy.
.
.
.
The silence spoke volumes.
He got absolutely zero sympathy, as per usual, but he blamed that on the pancakes in front of him. They were distracting his lovely lovers, they'd totally care otherwise- totally!
"Have some, Scar. Mumbo's literally going to burst into tears if you don't." Grian peeped up, peering at Scar through his reading glasses as he flicked out his newspaper.
He was the only person Scar knew who read the paper every morning, and he was yet to understand why. Maybe it's because he's in the headlines every other day. Such a pesky bird..
"I will not." Mumbo's rebuttal was so quiet Scar didn't hear it over the rustling of Grian's paper, snickering quietly as he fetched himself a few pancakes. It looked like everyone had already dug in- there was even a large bite mark taken out of one of the pancakes he'd picked up.
Scar shot a pointed glare at Cub, but he only giggled and wiped some syrup off his lip with his thumb. Somehow, he knew it'd been him.
He flicked the crystal hanging from his pointed ear before he started eating, keeping an eye on Cub in case he tried to eat any more of his breakfast. Cub's sneakier than you'd think, if Scar so much as blinks he'll lose half his plate!
"God, that was lovely, thanks Mumbo."
"Who knew our MJ was such a good baker?" Cub piped up, smirking at Scar. Grian let out a quiet giggle, knowing well that they were about to drop a whole lotta love right onto their unsuspecting partner.
"Aw, guys.. Thank you. It really wasn't that-"
"Shush, shush, you did fantastic." Scar revelled in the way Mumbo's face lit up bright red at all the compliments, confused stutters rattling out of his mouth like he was being shaken around in a tumble dryer.
"Cub, I think you know what we have to do."
"Oh, certainly," Cub was still smirking by the time he'd gotten out of his seat, Mumbo frantically swivelling his head back and forth between the two until he made himself dizzy. Cub planted a big old kiss right on Mumbo's cheek before Scar leaned in and did the same, smiling so wide his face hurt.
"Goodness, Mumbo, you act like none of us have ever kissed you before."
"You're all coming for me at the same time, it's not fair!" Mumbo squeaked, hiding his red face behind his hands.
After several fits of laughter and sleepy conversations later, Scar already wanted to go back to bed.
Grian and Cub had snuck off while he was eating, both unamused by his and Mumbo's argument about why getting redstone dust up your nose "wasn't that bad", so it was only the two of them as Scar washed his plates, whistling a chipper tune as Mumbo pushed all the chairs back in.
"Any plans for today, Scar?" He whispered, sneaking his arms around Scar's stomach from behind, drumming out a pattern on his skin. Mumbo had such cold hands, but that comes with being a vampire.
"Uh.." It took him a bit longer than usual to respond, his brain sidetracked with trying to figure out what Mumbo was tapping out. It didn't sound like anything he recognised, but Mumbo was one for odd music.
Scar had once caught him listening to some meditation hummmmmm on loop and he hasn't dared to question his tastes since, what Mumbo listens to is entirely his own business. Scar still thinks it was some kind of weird magic to fix his moustache in place, but he won't ever say that aloud.
"You know what, I don't! I don't have any shops to restock, no new builds in mind,"Scar grinned, tilting his head all the way back until it bumped against Mumbo's shoulder. "We could just relax here if you want?"
"Hmm.." Mumbo was considering it, Scar was sure he would've heard the cogs whirring in his brain if he were any closer. "Let me think.."
"Take your time, Mumble, I've got all day." Scar giggled at the tickle of a well kept moustache against his neck, cheeks going a rosy red at the soft kiss he felt at the back of his neck. Mumbo was always such a romantic..
"Yeah, that sounds good to me. Cub and Grian will be out for a while, I think they said something about trying to squish people with anvils..?" And Mumbo pulled back, offering out a hand to Scar.
"If they succeed, we heard nothing." Scar laughed, and gladly took it.
Rubbing his tired eyes with his fists, he tumbled down onto the couch with Mumbo. They eventually chose to put on a movie, Scar sinking into his side like a melted marshmallow. He pulled his legs up to his chest and sighed, sleep overcoming him as he hugged Mumbo's arm.
"I love you guys, you know?" Scar whispered, his eyes slowly shutting as the intro to Titanic started playing on the screen. "I love you so much."
After causing a fifteen message streak of deaths in the server's chat, Cub and Grian returned home to find two very unconscious men on their couch- both snoring loudly as the end credits rolled out.
Mumbo had Scar in a bear hug, the two toppled over on their sides with Scar as the little spoon. Cub audibly awwed before getting told off by Grian, shushed before he could even argue. He threw his arms up in the air, brief anger dispelled by the sweet kiss Grian placed right on his lips.
"Hold on, we can't leave them like that."
"Aw, why? They're so.. sweet."
"Shush."
As cute as it was, Grian couldn't imagine it was very comfortable. Grian tossed a pleated blanket over them and Cub moved in to kiss both of their heads. Satisfied with how cosy his partners now looked, Grian put his hands on his hips and grinned, looking to Cub for approval.
"Well?"
"They look appropriately adorable. C'mon, let's go before they wake up." Cub hummed softly, fixing some of Scar's hair out of his eyes.
It took a lot of willpower for them both not to join in on the cuddle pile, but Grian eventually managed to pull Cub away, hugging onto his arm like he was playing a game of Tug of War.
"I love you," He chirped, lifting up onto his toes to press a kiss to Cub's nose. "I love youuu.. " And another to his cheek. "-love you." And another right to his lips.
Bombarded by affection, Cub blushed like he was turning into a tomato and muttered a bunch of gibberish back.
They both took to the lounge together, celebrating their array of anvil kills with a bunch of well deserved smooching; and when Mumbo and Scar finally woke up, they joined in too.
