Chapter Text
'Skrrrt'
The bus came to a stop finally after 3 hours. 3 straight hours of boredom. After the 1st hour, your phone had died, so most of the drive was pure and utter boredom. Zero entertainment. Torture was the only word you could come up with to describe it.
Hurriedly, you got up from your seat, glancing out the window, seeing your mother standing there waiting for you.
As you stepped off, dragging your luggage behind you, you were surprised by a hug from your mother. It had been so long since you had seen her in person, let alone hug her.
"I am so, SO glad you're here!" She exclaimed. Her smile made all your worries fade.
Her Deep brown hair bounced with her movements. Her round face filled you with warmth and comfort.
"Hey mom," you spoke as you dropped your luggage to hug her back. "I'm glad I'm here too."
Your mother then pulled away before reaching down and grabbing your luggage.
"You've had a long ride! You must be exhausted."
You couldn't argue with that. You were exhausted. Not just physically, but mentally too.
This place was your new home and that was absolutely terrifying. The only person you knew here was your mother.
Though, your mother was quite popular. She had moved here quite a long time ago to help her grandfather. You were only 8 when she left, now you were 16.
Were you mad at her for leaving? Yes. You couldn't deny that fact. You were mad at her for not taking you with her.
Your mother had left due to the noises of the city and your father. He would always take out his anger onto her, though you became his new outlet when she left.
"Okay! First thing's first, we gotta get you settled home!" She happily spoke as she began carrying your luggage, leaving you to follow her.
The farm wasn't a huge distance (Thank God).
Once you arrived you couldn't help but gasp. It was something you had never seen before! Pigs! Cows! Chickens! So many animals!
Her home's quite large too! It was honestly gorgeous! Much more gorgeous than what you were imagining. When you thought of a farmhouse, you were imagining something smaller. Possibly even a crappy red-neck-looking house.
"Wow, mom! It's beautiful!" You exclaimed.
"Well, It's yours now too. Go make yourself at home!" She spoke softly as she carried the luggage into the house.
You walked towards the cow pen, glancing inside. The cows were quite boring, as to be expected. But still cute!
Next were the chickens. Same as the cows, they were bland. They just hopped around, pecking at the ground.
The pigs were a bit more entertaining. A few babies were trotting around with mud on their bellies. Seeing this made a smile creep up on your face. They reminded you of when you were much, much younger, around the age of 5 when you would play around in the mud with your mother. You would throw mud at one another, and during that time, your father was much, much different. A sober man who loved his family. He would join in, though not with mud but a hose.
Those memories always made your heart flutter, though your stomach would drop as soon as you realized that was in the past now. Now your father was an abusive, alcoholic, piece of shit. A complete 180 of who he used to be.
That's behind you now though. This was a new beginning.

"Dinner's almost ready!" Your mother shouted from downstairs.
You were up in your bedroom, still unpacking. You were currently working on your closet, putting clothes away.
You were also trying to decide what to wear tomorrow. You were supposed to meet everyone tomorrow. The mayor was kind enough to hold a small get-together for all the townsfolk to come and greet you in the town square.
You were excited and nervous at the same time. You had no idea what all the people here would think of you.
"Come on down, sweetie!" Your mother called.
Quickly, you scampered out of your bedroom, and down the stairs.
As soon as you entered the kitchen, you were overwhelmed with the smell of whatever your mother had thrown together. It smelt amazing, to say the least.
"Pepper poppers!" Your mother joyfully declared.
"Pepper-what's?" You questioned. You had never heard of this dish. It sounded... weird.
"Goodness, you really are a city girl! These are one of my favorite meals to make! Besides, it's free! I grow more peppers than I even know what to do with!" Your mother chuckled as she dished you up a serving, setting it down on the table.
You sat down, staring at the plate in front of you. It looked good... but did it taste good, you wondered.
Slowly, you lifted your fork, digging in and taking a small bite.
"Blegh!" You spat. "Too spicy!"
Your mother frowned which broke your heart.
"But... I mean it's... good. Spicy is good!" You lied. As much as you love spicy foods, this was a bit too much for you.
"Don't worry Hun, I think I have some leftover spaghetti in the fridge." Your mother uttered. Luckily, she didn't seem too upset over it.
"Mom, it's okay! I can eat it!" You reassured, attempting to take another bite.
"No, no, it's okay sweetie. I know someone who absolutely loves this dish! Tomorrow, you can give it to him! He'll really appreciate it, I'm sure!" Your mother smiled.
Nodding, you slid the plate away, getting up and going to the fridge.
