Chapter Text
The bright light of the sun burns Genos eyelights. After being in the dark of the save screen for so long, his eyelights, or eyelight, as his damaged one didn't heal, need some time to readjust to the new brightness of the surface.
He can feel the burn of his body melting slowly and painfully before Frisk shoves the butterscotch cinnamon pie towards him to eat. Geno speedily takes the pie and scarfs it down, his HP going up and up to its max. He smiles softly at Frisk.
“Thanks kid.” He brings his phalanges to Frisk’s hair in order to ruffle it gently. As Geno is ruffling Frisk's hair, Sans comes up to him, He chuckles.
“heh, surprised that it actually worked” He offers Geno a hand in order to pull him up onto his feet. Geno happily takes Sans’ hand and the help up. At this point his eyelight is adjusted to the light of the surface and he looks up in awe at the sunset. He takes a deep breath of the fresh air, the smell of the pines and the woods. The city at the bottom of the mountain is darkened slightly by the setting of the sun, but the lights are gorgeous from where he stands. His smile widens and he nods to Sans.
“I’m glad it did.” Geno Starts walking down the mountain “I think it’s about time you showed me around, has Grillby set up his bar again yet?” As they descend down the mountain Sans explains to Geno what has happened since Frisk freed the monsters from the prison behind the barrier. He puts in perspective what the humans think of the monsters, it’s not very flattering.
They get to the point where the hiking trail up the mountain gives way from a worn dirt path to a gravel road and then concrete. The lamp posts on the side of the road are starting to light up one by one, giving off a gentle street light for the three monsters and one human to make their way to the monster camp just outside of Ebott city.
Geno looks around the camp. It's honestly a little sad looking. There’s shoddy tents for the monsters, they’re not too big so there’s many of them scattered about. He does notice Muffet is outside a tent with plenty of pastries on a table in front of her.
Grillby is outside a tent next to Muffet, the two competitive monsters seem to have a truce as they give out food for the newly freed and definitely hungry monsters. Sans goes up to Grillby, leaves some gold pieces on the table and Grillby nods to three of the burgers wrapped in foil. Sans grabs them and hands one to Frisk and one to Geno.
“You don’t want one Papyrus?” Geno is curious why Sans only got three burgers instead of four.
“It’s too greasy for me, I’ll just have leftover spaghetti, thank you, Nyeh heh” Papyrus strikes a pose as he cackles light heartedly. Geno smiles, glad that Papyrus is still the same despite everything.
Sans opens his burger and dives in pretty quickly, Geno follows suit in devouring his own burger. Frisk seems to save their burger for later, stuffing it away in their inventory. It’s so refreshing to have Grillby’s grease dripping burgers for Geno, he almost melts at the nostalgic taste. He grins as he walks and eats.
They get to a much larger tent than the others. Geno asks about it and Sans explains that this is the Queen’s tent and that they’re dropping off Frisk. Geno gives a short hum and watches as Frisk runs off to the tent and waves at them with a big smile, he waves back at them with his permanent smile in place.
Sans waves Geno over and they walk to a different group of tents, there’s two of them, one looks large enough for two monsters and the other looks only big enough for one monster. Sans explains that one of the tents is Papyrus and his and the other is Geno’s.
“Thank you, Sans, for everything. I mean it, I owe you my life.” Geno smiles softly at the tent that he can now call his. It’s definitely not the nicest tent, none of them are, but it’s his for now. Sans chuckles at that.
“Best not keep mentioning that, might go to my head. And we don’t want that” Sans waves to Geno. “Good night Geno, sleep well, alright?"
Geno nods and enters his tent, he looks around it and gives a soft sigh. He hasn't slept properly in so long, he doesn't even remember how long ago he last slept. He sits on the bed roll that's provided on the ground and closes his eye, his not so melting one at least, and drifts to hopeful sleep.
