The night after he kills his best friend, Lark texts Nick. It's stupid, and poorly thought-through, a rambling paragraph of half-apologies and bullshit justifications, and Lark deletes the text as soon as it's sent, disappearing on his end but not Nick's. He doesn't like to think about it, but as the weeks go on he can't stop texting his dead ex-friend. Who he killed.
