Work Text:

he told himself he'd never fall in love, for he had no time for love. yet here he was. Lustful for her's.

"It's not really work

It's just the power to charm

I'm still standing in the wind

But I never wave bye bye

But I try, I try"

The king's head hung low, the young girl had returned home after besting him, in 𝘩𝘪𝘴 Labyrinth. The longing feeling of exasperation never seemed to leave the king's side. The feeling of pity as strong as it was before- but instead of the runner, he pitted himself. She took pieces of him that the fae would never know, nor did he want to. It hurt too much to ponder. the feeling of humiliation never rested as insanity slowly flooded his brain.

How dare she.

How dare she make him out as a fool? Besting him then leaving him with a broken heart? How cruel her eyes had been, he moved the stars for her. He reordered time for her. And she speaks those harsh truths as if it was nothing.

After all, the king had been nothing but generous to the runner.

She painted him out as a villan, even if she had been the one that said her right words. He was tired of living up to her expectations. Jareth's eyes bored into the castle's ceilings, emotionless as far as the eye could see, as far as he would allow to see. His heart ached, he wanted her, he needed the girl. He thought he was heartless, he wanted to be heartless- being heartless would be easier than feeling this..emotion of love. Damn her, and damn her cruel words. As hard as he tried, her words wouldn't slip from his mind. He would fall in love with her, no matter if his heart needn't. It never would. After all, what's said is said and once said you can't take back. Right? "Pathetic this is, losing my head over a mortal?" He shook his head, his words spat out and stung like venom; the immortal creature's face rested slightly. She was just a innocent young girl, getting her baby brother had been her only task though his maze. Nothing more. Even if his task had changed- the baby had longed been damned. He wanted Sarah. To have her as his Queen, beside him to rule their kingdom, is what he wanted. He yearned for closure, but that never seemed to come. Cruel as he can be, he never wanted this role, forced onto him no matter what. The villain of the story. Nothing more, nothing less. He grew tired of it. The title had become worn out and he wanted a new one. Sarah had been that sliver of hope he's finally saw. But it wouldn't matter now. She won. That was that. Jareth's face pulled into a frown.

"Oh my precious thing, what have you done to me?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jareth's eyes penetrated the glass ball that he held with his leather gloves, bearing his teeth he growled out to no one inpaticular. Except the anonymous man that held the champion of his soul in his arms. Usually, the king would watch Sarah's heart ache as the "men" who would come her way end up breaking her heart. Over, and over and over again untill she'd try once more. The smirk he'd wear when watching her world fell down underneath the girl- woman never failed to make him chuckle, what a fool she had been. Dispite his great displeasure watching those pathetic boys win over her heart, he couldn't help but want to be in their place. Instead, he would win her over and keep her. Show those idiots how a 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 man treats his mistress. But no matter how much he wanted to, he couldn't. She still had power over him.

The goblins wouldn't dare to visit the king, as he was a dangerous man when angered. His iced eyes showed no emotion but meloncholy and his smile- long gone. He didn't sing nor dance anymore, the runners wouldn't get to see that side of the goblin king for it had died out with the magic of his kingdom. Jareth hadn't felt the feeling of passion in years, ever since she ran his Labyrinth, the dangerous smile he wore and the thrill of excitement had been cast aside. He'd never felt so..alive before, that when her time came to a close in his realm he made a stupid promise to her: "Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave". And a slave he would become. The Fae's, eyes so dull and lifeless, watched as his precious Sarah closed the gap that stood between her and the man. Betrayal slapped him across the face and had left a rather nasty looking bruise, his tired scream echoed through his castle as his pain settle in. She was no longer innocent, she had forgotten about the world she loved as a child- but she wasn't a child anymore, she was an adult now. His throat burned with horasness from the scream that ripped out, seven years. it had been only seven years. Seven years would be a mere second in time if he hadn't met her, answered her call to him. But he did, and as he waited seven felt like eternity. An enternity without her.

He'd lyed on the castle's cold floor as the feeling of loneliness dawned onto him, he'd never have her. No matter how much he wanted he would never get. The glass shattered, just like his heart when she left him. He fell for her, hard. It was a one sided love. He let the girl take away his power, strip it bare untill no more was left. Pathetic, he let a child beat him? And now he was a prisoner to her love, the love she would never give him. He let a mortal outwit him, out smart him, and he out loved her. He could have just said no. Taken her and disregard her pleaded screams. He should've done that if having her was an option. But he didn't, he not know why he didn't. He could've reordered time. But he didn't. He could have brought her to the beginning. But he didn't. He let her go and now he sufferes this endless hell. One he can't excape. The mortal stole his life away because she wanted to right a wrong. Because of a simple wish that he's heard more times than he can count.
