Chapter 1: Everyone is not created equal

Chapter Text

"Hey, what Quirk do you think we will have?"

"Hopefully something like Mom or All Might!"

"I want something like All Might!"

"I want something like Mommy." Izumi turns away with a huff. He didn't understand why she didn't want a Quirk like their mother's. Her Quirk is very cool and useful in almost all situations. Their mother sighs from where she was sitting beside Izumi. "Wait, I'm sorry mommy!"

Izumi immediately apologized as mom laughed, "Don't worry, Izumi. You're not in trouble." Izumi sighs in relief as he looks in the direction of the doctor who left the room with the blood in it. "Yagi." Mom stands up and grabs our hands as she leads us to the doctor's office. "So, what did you find?" She asked as she sat them down before sitting herself. The doctor sighed before looking at her, "So, I'm going to be blunt. Your son is quirkless." His mother sucks in a breath as he freezes, he knew what that word meant, unlike his sister that looked confused.

"But, on the bright side, your daughter appears to have a stronger version of your quirk." The doctor exclaims with a bright smile. Izumi pouts, "It Isn't All Might's quirk." She crosses her arms as their mother thanks the doctor and leaves out. How ironic, they're both sad but, for different reasons. He didn't have a quirk while she didn't get the quirk she wanted. He wanted to cry and by some miracle, he hasn't yet.

The drive home was silent, mom looked to be in deep thought. He looked out of the window, he couldn't be a hero without a quirk, could he? He could try but it would be hard. When they get home Izumi runs out of the car crying, "Daddy! I didn't get All Might's Quirk!"

Dad was standing at the door and easily caught her, "Oh no, what did you get, Angel?" Izumi just sobs harder as he and Mom walk in. "Honey, Izuku's Quirkless." Father didn't say anything but, he tensed up, Izuku didn't know what that meant and only started heading in the direction of his room. As he left the living room he heard his mother's next words, "But, Izumi luckily got a stronger version of my quirk." She sounded so happy…..he couldn't take it and ran the rest of the way to his room and broke down.

All the tears he was holding back all came out like a gesture. He could hear the sound of his parents celebrating Izumi on her new quirk, no one came to check up on him that night.

The next day he sat on the bench on the playground. He was watching everyone play as his usual playmates weren't here currently. "Izuku! I heard you are quirkless!" He turned to see Kacchan and Succhan there, both of their palms sparking. He nodded slowly, his voice was hoarse due to him crying himself to sleep.

"Are you still planning on being a hero?" He turns to look at Shoko, he thought about her question for a few seconds. He assumed they took his silence as a yes. Because the next thing he knew Izumi started yelling at him saying it was too dangerous for a quirkless loser. What? He blinked in confusion, "Bu-" Isn't it dangerous for everyone? Quirk or no quirk! He was interrupted by an explosion from Suchan, "No talking back loser!" They all then gave him a not-very-brutal beating. But it was still bad.

The rest of the day continued like that, he was confused by why they suddenly started treating him like that. They said he couldn't be a hero due to not having a quirk but, could they be heroes if they become bullies? Well, they could be like Endeavor. He's the Todoroki Twins' father anyway. Izuku slowly made his way home, Izumi left without him with the Bakugou Twins'.

When he got home he ran into mom, "Izuku! What happened to you?!" She bent over and picked him up. "I-i….I fell on the way home." Mom nodded and went to look for the first aid kit. He leaned against her chest as he went to sleep.

It's been a year since then, and Izumi and her friends have made it their life's mission to beat him at least once a day. He can't avoid them at school because he lives with Izumi. So, they would either just get him at home or give him twice the beating the next day. But, that's not the only thing that happened this year.

Ever since the day they went to the quirk doctor, he noticed his parents seem to forget about him more and more. Like the day they went Christmas shopping and forgot to tell him. Or that day, they all went on a trip to Tokyo but forgot to take him. Or that time mom only made three plates and forgot his so, he had to make himself his own plate.

And that was only scratching the surface, he feels like this is going to become an issue in the future. Like he went with his mother to the park today, and he feels like she doesn't even know he's been with her for the last hour. He sighs as he bounces his favorite red ball, he will just have to get used to it if this is going to be his new norm. He throws the ball down, maybe he should get himself a cookbook…just in case. He throws the ball again but it goes too high and bounces away.

He immediately chases after it, it was his favorite red ball after all. He watches it bounce until it is caught by a man with white hair and freckles. "Hello, little one. Is this your ball?" Izuku nodded and smiled brightly, "It is thank you, Mister!" He grabbed his ball back and was about to run over to his mother when he felt a prick on the back of his neck and the world went dark.
