Chapter Text
“Where are we going?” Albus whispered, tightening his grip on Scorpius’ hand when he thought he heard a teacher. Scorpius was worrying him, going out past curfew was not usually on his to-do list for most days. Scorpius only shushed him, pulling him up the stairs on surprisingly light feet. He led him all the way from the dungeons to the top floor, sending Albus a smile as he gestured for him to go up to the Astronomy Tower.
Albus looked at him uneasily as he did as he was told, climbing the ladders up to where they would usually have late night classes. Scorpius followed him up, closing the door quietly and grinning at Albus.
He pulled the blanket from around Albus’ neck and lay it on the floor, sitting crossed legged and facing out toward the sky. Albus sat down, cuddling closer to him as Scorpius wrapped the second blanket he had brought around their shoulders.
Albus looked out to the sky, his jaw dropping in amazement. It was a beautifully clear night, the inky sky dotted with brilliant white stars in the thousands.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” Scorpius said. Albus turned to look at him, his face alight with wonder as he took in the sight before him. There was a small smile on his lips, one of appreciation, his eyes glistening in the low lighting.
“Yeah, it is,” Albus replied, not taking his eyes from him. Albus took his hand again, pulling it close to him to warm it up. “Why are we here?”
Scorpius broke his trance from the starry sky to look at him. “When I was younger my mum and I would sit out on the balcony of my room every December 1st to look at the sky. It was just some silly tradition, like it marked the beginning of my birth month and Christmas, but it was one I looked forward to and cherished dearly. We had to move the date once I came to Hogwarts, but the first day of December that I would see her, we would look out to the stars. She was really sick on our last one and I think a part of me knew that it would be the last. Then I tried to do it on my own, but it was too much. I just cried, I couldn't even look at the stars. But this year I thought… like maybe you’d want to see the stars with me. Like we could keep it going, in honour of her.”
“I would love to,” he whispered, squeezing his hand. Albus kissed his cheek before looking back out to the sky. “Is Scorpius out tonight?”
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Scorpius shake his head. “It might be very faint, but it shines brightest in June. I think that means we were written in the stars or something,” Scorpius mused, referring to Albus’ birth month.
Albus wrapped an arm around him, pulling him as close as he could and resting his head on his shoulder.
“Thank you,” he mumbled, “for wanting to share this with me.”
Scorpius rested his head on top of Albus’. “Thank you for being here with me.”
Little did Scorpius know, Albus would never want to be anywhere else than with him.
