Chapter Text
Five long ass years.
That’s how long Izuku had been in America, doing who knows what with who knows who. The day of graduation came and went. Izuku pulled him aside to explain the training All Might wanted him to do in America.
“It’s only a year, Kachan! Then I’ll be back and we can be partners!”
It was the biggest bullshit lie he’s ever heard out of that idiot’s mouth. Izuku never came back. He never answered his calls or texts and All Might was sick in the hospital in some remote location so he couldn’t ask the guy.
It was damn hard without the nerd. The hole in his chest kept getting bigger and bigger. Shitty Hair tried to set him up on dates to move on but when the time of the date came? He called the shit off. Izuku was the only one he wanted.
So, why the fuck wasn’t he here?!
Somedays he wanted to strangle the nerd.
Somedays he wanted to be able to kiss his stupid freckled face.
Somedays he hugged a stupid ass Deku plushie and cried. No one knew about those days.
Katsuki was currently the number three hero and stuck. No one knew who the fuck the number two hero was and Hawks was still number one. Swear that dumbass fried chicken just flirts with all of Japan to keep his ranks.
The comms in his ear clicked with the dispatcher's voice to follow. “Ground Zero, you are needed on the west side. District four. Front St. There is a complex fire, four alarm and spreading to the neighboring building. Please assist with evac.”
“Two minutes fucking out.” Katsuki pointed his arms to the ground. This was second nature to him. A blast exploded out of both his palms, propelling him into the air. Feeling the wind on his face always settled his nerves right before going into a stressful situation. Fires were not his cup of tea.
His eyes spotted the smoke miles out. Thick black clouds pouring into the sky. It was a bad fire. Katsuki pushed his arms to blast him through the air faster. He fucking hated fires. Landing with a heavy thud, he found most of his agency that were his classmates. There were some newbies that he didn’t fucking know but he also didn’t give a shit.
“The building is about to go down.” Kirishima informed him quickly. “Frostfire and another hero are inside to get the last few citizens out.”
Katsuki crossed his arms over his chest, “Better hurry the fuck up! I’m not digging out that bastard.”
An explosion rang from the top of the complex, probably the second to last floor. Glass shattered, falling to the ground below and that’s when Todoroki and the newbie appeared. “Everyone’s out!”
“NO! My baby is still in there!!”
Katsuki whipped his head up to the complex, his eyes scanning each and every window for any kind of movement. Could a kid really be missed?! How the fuck could someone miss the kid?! He swallowed dryly, palms twitching. The urge to go in there was so strong that his foot almost took a step but he knew he would only make it worse. The sweat on his palms and in his gauntlets would explode from the heat... killing them both.
“I’m goin—” Todoroki began but a flash of green flew by them and into one of glassless windows. No... right? He had to be seeing things.
That green light was only from one person.
The mother behind him was screaming for her child in Kirishima’s arms. The building began to groan, the support beams cracked and swayed.
“It’s going down!” Uraraka shouted.
It was... the building was going to crumble. The woman screamed louder, trying to fight her way to the complex. Cries for her child would be scarred into his brain for the rest of his life because that child would be de—
A window broke but it wasn’t from an explosion. Someone broke the window from the inside. Another flash of green flew out from the window and landed with a thud behind him. The sound of a crying child replaced the mother’s who let out a gasp.
“Yui was very brave.” He knew that stupid voice anywhere. “The paramedics are going to take her to the hospital for a full work up and make sure everything’s okay.”
The mother cried tears of joy. “T-thank you! I-I don’t know h-how I would have l-lived without h-her!” Why did it feel like the world was moving in slow motion? “W-what’s your name?”
Katsuki turned his head, eyes widening. “No need to thank me! I’m Hero Deku!” That fucker smiled that stupid ass bright smile for the woman. “I have to get going but I will try to check in on you both later!”
Izuku turned swiftly, his jade eyes meeting his for a brief second before black whip shot out from his knuckles and pulled him away from the scene.
“Shitty hair... tell me I’m not fucking dreaming.”
Kirishima slapped a hand down on his shoulder, “It’d be freaking weird to share the same dream like this. So... that was Midoriya.”
Izuku fucking Midoriya was back in Japan.
Katsuki ground his molars together. He didn’t know whether to be happy or pissed. Though his heart was fucking soaring in some clouds while his head was telling him to hunt the idiot down and kill him but at that second... he only had one question for him.
Why the fuck did you break your promise?
“Ah damn it!” One of the newbies groaned, looking around like he was damn lost.
Kirishima was too nice. “Hey, man! What’s up?”
The blue hair man brightened a little and jogged over to them. “Hey Red Riot! I—” He huffed, “I was looking for my boss but he ran off.” He smiled a little, glancing around again. “I’m Blaze.”
Boss? What the fuck was going on today?! Why!? WHY!
“Oh, we could probably help! Who’s the boss man?”
Blaze rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, “The number two hero! We were patrolling a district over and dispatch asked us to assist.”
Narrowing his eyes, Katsuki clicked his tongue. “No one knows who the number two hero is, fuckface. We need a damn name.”
“Ah! Right, sorry!” He laughed, “It’s Hero Deku!”
The pair of heroes stared at him with the same expression. Have you lost your mind? Kirishima shook his head slowly, “Bro, Hero Deku has been in America.”
Blaze now looked just as confused as them. Fucking shit. Fuck today. “Huh? He’s the number two international hero but he’s the number two hero here too!”
“That doesn’t make fucking sense!” He shouted. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Yeah, he was on a one track mind of Fucks right now. “He hasn’t been here!”
“Look... I’m sorry if you don’t get it but he is.” The shorter hero took a few steps back. “Anyways. I really got to go.”
Katsuki was going to regret this, “What the fuck is the name of your agency!?” Please for the love of all peace, don’t say—
“Twin Stars!” Blaze shouted back as he ran up the road.
Kirishima patted his back lightly. “Bro, breathe. You can’t go in there about to explode.” He hated that Shitty Hair was right. If he went to that building now it wouldn’t be standing just like the one in front of him. “We should talk to Hawks.”
“Deku.”
The winged hero looked up from the papers on his desk. “What about him?” Katsuki scowled and sat down heavily into one of the chairs in front of the desk, crossing his arms over his chest.
“He’s here and the number two hero.”
Hawks smirked, “Why yes, he is. He actually just arrived in Japan last week. Is there a problem with that?” The golden eyes were laughing at him. Fucking bird.
“A little since I didn’t fucking know!”
“Were you entitled?” Well, no but fucking still. Hawks set down his pen and leaned back in his chair before continuing. “I’m going to lay it out for you, Bakugo. Take my advice as you wish but I will warn you, if you take it too lightly then you will burn every bridge with him.” Katsuki glared at his boss, nodding. “He’s been underground—and no, I will not tell you why. Deku is more... guarded than ever. Don’t go around him with your explosive attitude and not expect him to punch you in the face.
“Right now, he’s starting over in his home town. To be honest, the kid needs it. The Commission has been begging for him back for a while. I wouldn’t be surprised if I was knocked down a rank in the next rankings. Yes, he built his own agency. Twin Stars and I know he’s looking to hire everyone in class 1-A when he is ready and being the nice person I am. I’m willing to let you go, all of you if you so wish.
Hawks sighed a little, “My advice is to be there for him when he needs it. Don’t pry for information and just be his friend. The kid’s been alone for two years... Mirko is the only one that can get inside his walls. Not even Eraserhead.”
“Where the fuck is All Might?! That guy was like a dad to him!”
The golden eyes softened a little. “The only reason Izuku Midoriya is back in Japan... is because All Might died. The government didn’t announce it nor do they want to. Pricks is what they are.” He sighed softly, tapping his finger on the desk. “Be patience, Katsuki. Let him come to you.”
Katsuki left the office feeling heavy. Not only was All Might dead but something happened to Izuku, something in the back of his head told him it was something bad. The feelings were hanging heavy on his shoulders. Guilt. Anger. Worry.
So many questions.
Why didn’t he call him? Reach out to him? Katsuki swore that they were friends again if not best friends again. He would do anything for that nerd...
Loathing in self pity, he headed home to start his weekend. He was going to spend the next two days thinking about Izuku nonstop and wondering about what the hell he was doing. Getting home with a take out bag in hand and beer in the other. He went straight over to the couch and turned on the news.
No surprise, Izuku’s rescue was all over it.
Hero Deku was back.
The number two hero revealed.
The Commission welcomes Hero Deku with open arms.
Twin Stars—the newest agency and run by Hero Deku himself.
Another sigh escaped his lips. All he wanted was the nerd to be his and be the Wonder Duo they were meant to be. This was a fucking a lot.
Katsuki took his time eating his curry. Nothing that he put in his mouth tasted like it should. It tasted like nothing. Eventually, he gave up on the phone. After a long ass shower and doing his nightly routine. He climbed into his freezing bed with his phone gripped in his hand.
Izuku’s contact stared back at him. He wanted nothing more than to press call... to hear his voice. Maybe tomorrow. For once, he was going to listen to Hawks and take it slow. The screen of his phone darkened to black.
Katsuki didn’t move as sleep took him and he dreamed of a time when they were kids, playing heroes before either of them had quirks. Before he was a dick.
“Kachan! Let’s play!”
Little Katsuki smirked, “Fine! But I get to save you!” Izuku giggled, nodding his head so fast that his curls fell into his eyes. “Damn, nerd!” He said, brushing them away from his eyes.
“You’re the best, Kachan! I can’t wait to be your hero partner!” He giggled again.
Katsuki’s smirk turned into a grin, “Hell yeah! We’ll be the best!” Everything around him went black. Izuku disappeared from in front of him. “Zuku!?”
A loud bang hit his ears making him jump. “Why did you have to hurt me, Kachan?” He whirled around as he looked for Izuku but it echoed around him. “Why did you tell me to take a swan dive?”
A hard thud came from behind him. The sound of cracking bones and... Slowly he turned around to find a beam of light shining down on a body. Each step he took, the harder his heart pounded in his chest. A pool of blood slowly seeped from underneath the body. Blood trailed from the corner of his lips moving over his chin to drip into the pool of red. Forest green curls matted with blood.
Izuku opened his eyes, the emerald was hidden under grey... dead looking eyes. “WHY WEREN’T YOU THERE FOR ME?!”
Katsuki let out a scream, jolting up in his head, panting. “W-what the f-fuck...” The terror of losing Izuku filled his chest. He ran his fingers into his damp spikes, shaking. “Fucking h-hell.”
He should have gotten up and went for a run but instead he sat there with his elbows on his knees, gripping his hair tightly, reliving the dream—the nightmare over and over again.
