Chapter Text
Kerry saw Susan standing near the edge of the roof, the baby hairs which had released themselves from her ponytail were dancing around in the wind; outstretched arms begging her to come forward.
Kerry moved slowly, silently, gently towards Susan, not wanting to startle her. She was entranced. The further the sun came down the brighter its light shined against Susan’s dark blonde hair. She was an angel, her guardian, even if she didn’t quite realise that yet. Her mind revolved around her and no matter how determined she was that nothing external should influence her decisions or the way she lived her life… Susan did.
As Kerry got closer she could see Susan’s shaky breaths, the rise and fall of her chest as she glared resolutely at the horizon. The hairs on her bare arms prickled as her body registered the cold bite of Chicago in early winter.
What a sight! Kerry staring at Susan staring at the skyline. A tableau where one must wait for the music again before they see how it all pans out. Will Kerry reach out to Susan as she longs to, will Susan accept Kerry in this hour of vulnerability? Who knows? Not I.
But the future didn’t matter, they were so caught up in the moment and in themselves that nothing mattered. Not really. Just them, and their view.
