Chapter 1: In the Car (Terry)

Chapter Text

“Korvo, pleeease.”

“No.”

“But I gotta go!”

“No!”

It was only a few hours into the Solar Opposites’ annual road trip and Korvo could hardly stand it anymore. Predictably, everyone was behaving horribly. The replicants had fought the whole time, the Pupa wouldn’t stop playing Cars 2 on repeat, and Terry’s poor navigational skills had gotten them lost. Now they were wildly behind schedule.

Terry stomped his feet, shaking the vehicle’s interior.

“Would you stop that? You’re going to wake up the replicants.” Korvo hissed. The fact that they’d fallen asleep some time ago was his only respite, and if that was taken from him he might as well crash the car and end this misery.

“I can’t help it.” Terry replied, and switched to rocking in his seat instead.

“That’s your own fault. I told you not to drink so much, but does anyone ever listen to me? Nooo.”

The sloshing ocean inside Terry was just about drowning out Korvo’s complaining. Though he was probably right, no amount of lecturing was going to change the fact that he really, really, really needed to pee.

“I’m sorry okay? I’m a big dummy and I should’ve listened to you. You’re always right and you know everything and that’s why you’re the boss. Now can we please stop somewhere? I’m about to explode!”

Korvo gestured to the long, dark stretch of highway before them. Except for the road, the only thing in sight was the wilderness surrounding it.

“And where exactly do you think I’m going to stop? The next rest area isn’t for miles.”

Terry panted and bounced, eyes squeezed shut in desperation.

“Just - just pull over. I’ll do it here.”

“That’s against the law.” Korvo replied flatly, less concerned with the criminality and more so not wanting Terry to have his way. He had become sick of bailing him out from the consequences of his own actions.

“It’s fine, nobody’s around! Come on, man!” Terry’s pitch was raising. “Please, please, please!”

“Ugh! Fine!”

Terry whined impatiently while Korvo checked his rear view mirror. They still seemed to be alone, so he carefully pulled over into the emergency lane. Once parked, he sat back and waited. However, a moment went by with no sign of his partner moving, and he looked over with annoyance.

“Well?”

Terry opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He bit his lip and looked around as if searching for his words, but eventually swung his gaze over to Korvo, a bashful smile on his face. The mission leader stared quizzically, then looked down. Terry’s shorts were soaked, along with his seat.

“God fucking dammit, Terry!”

“I told you to pull over!”

“I fucking did! What is the matter with you!? Do - do you just get a kick out of torturing me!? Do you!?”

“It’s not like I did it on purpose! You took too long!”

“Hey, what’s all the yelling for?”

“Get your elbow off me, Jesse!”

“I’m not even touching you!”

“Korvo, Terry, Jesse’s being stupid!”

“Am not!”

Korvo’s face slammed into the steering wheel, adding a loud, unending honk to the atmosphere. Perhaps there was a brick wall within crashing distance.
