Here's my Twitter if you wanna follow me or if you want it for some other vague reason!

Welcome to a Hero/Mari fanfic, which follows a Detective x Phantom Thief idea I got from some OMORI fanart I saw! I shall be (hopefully) steadily posting more chapters as the weeks come!
(Chapters may come out every few days.. every week... It'll be a tad infrequent though, so sorry in advance if the rate of updates is messy!)

Chapter Text

“HEY! Get back here!”

Hero’s legs ached. They felt tired, but Hero fought the urge to stop. He was so close. Just a little further, and he would catch her.

“Keep up, detective!” Her gleeful voice was distorted and mocking.

She scaled a fire-exit ladder with extreme ease up to a rooftop, and Hero lagged behind, using all his energy just to continue the pursuit. She seemed to wait at the top out of pity.

Finally, he reached the roof. She stood not too far, at the edge.

She gave Hero a small applause. “I must admit, you are quite determined. And, your determination has gotten you closer to me. I’m surprised.” She seemed genuinely and also strangely proud. “You’re the first person to get this close to catching me. I’m afraid though, it’ll only be this close. I must take my leave, Detective!”

Hero tried to catch her, but it was no use. She already leaped over to the next building with great agility.

Having no other option, Hero took out his handcuffs, and threw them like a boomerang. They struck her leg, and she landed on the other roof with an uncontrolled tumble.

Her mask flew off, landing not too far from her.

“..My, my.. I’m not even angry. You’re quite resourceful.” She cocked her head slightly to face him. “I must applaud you once more.” Her voice was no longer distorted. “But.. Once again..” She walked over to her mask, and donned it once more, turning to face Hero. “I must take my leave.”

She tossed Hero’s handcuffs back to him, before fleeing with agility. Hero had to forfeit this. No way he could get to her.

It was a painful punch in the gut, but Hero couldn’t do much but hope that next time..

He’d be more successful.
