Chapter Text
“Man, those lighteners were something tough, huh?” Cap’n said, hanging up his hat on the hatrack by the door of the musical trio’s shared house. They crashed down on the couch, picking up the remote and lazily flipping through the channels.
Sweet didn’t waste any time plopping himself down on the couch next to Cap. “Those ones are slippery! Another round or two and we woulda had em!” They shrugged. “We shouldn’ta got all caught up in our music, but hey, what are you gonna do when all you produce is bangers?”
Cap chuckled, finding a semi-interesting rerun and fully settling in. “Amen to that, Sweet.”
“Oh, come on now, they weren’t all that bad,” K_K said, extending their arm from the doorway to the living room to take off Sweet’s hat and put it on the hat rack. Sweet made a half grab for it, but opted for comfort after the long day they’d had rather than fighting K_K on this, not taking their eye off the TV. “I mean, they danced with us! Not that many people do that, even the cyber city residents.”
“I guess not,” Cap said with a sigh as K_K sat between them and Sweet. “I still don’t like ‘em; they beat us at our own game.”
“Yeah, well don’t be too mad at ‘em; goat boy has a crush on you,” Sweet said with a snort.
Cap whipped his head to look at Sweet. “He what?!”
Sweet laughed. “You really didn’t notice him? He was laying it on pretty thick.”
“I’m sorry if I was too busy fighting the enemy to properly flirt with them!” Cap said, defensive.
“Oh come on, you flirt with everything that moves,” Sweet said, waving their hand. “You’re just too oblivious to notice when someone’s flirting back!”
“I’m not oblivious! And- and it doesn’t matter if he was flirting with me! He’s a traitor to darkners! And I don’t even like guys like that!”
“Sweet, come on, lay off him,” K_K said. “You’re aggravating him.”
“I don’t need you to fight my battles, K_K!” Cap yelled. “I’m… I’m going to our room. To think. Neither of you follow me.”
Cap made their way up the stairs, slamming the door to their room behind them. The room of Sweet, Cap’n and K_K was a perfect circle, one third of the circle representing each of them. A soft, calming green for K_K, adorned with nothing more than a bed, lamp, bookshelf, and pictures of the musical trio. Sweet’s third of the room was bright black and yellow, almost like racing stripes. Anywhere he could fit them, there were speakers. Sweet liked it loud, and if he was playing, Knight forbid you were anywhere near the room. The final corner of the room belonged to Cap, the walls a deep, sharp navy. Posters of his favorite action stars decorated the walls, explosions in contrast to the walls’ color.
They leaned their back against the door and sank to the floor, sighing. They shouldn’t have yelled at Sweet like that, and they shouldn’t have blown up on K_K like that, but what could he do? They couldn’t just say stuff like that. Stuff that… wasn’t true.
Cap got up and threw themself onto the bed, staring up at the ceiling and remembering the battle with the lightners and the prince.
—
“Happy feet, dumbass!” The purple dinosaur, Susie, yelled at the dark prince.
He looked remorsefully at the fallen human, still recovering from the barrage of attacks that the trio had focused on them. “Sorry, Kris,” he mumbled, looking at Cap’n. “Uhm… do you want to dance?”
“Only if you can keep up!” Cap said, twirling around and giving Ralsei a dazzling smile, causing him to blush, clearly due to his lack of dancing skills (…right?)
“Oh, uh, I don’t do all that much dancing,” Ralsei said, trying to at least get his feet moving in rhythm. “But you’re really good at it! I doubt I could keep up with someone like you.”
Yeah, that’s right! We’re the best! Cap thought, the sound of Ralsei’s compliment almost audible as it flew over his head.
“I’m pretty good at ballroom dancing,” Ralsei said, holding out a hand, still blushing. “We could try that, if you wanted!”
“No way! Ballroom dances are slow and boring!” Cap said, ignoring Ralsei’s outstretched hand. “What else’ve you got?”
“Oh…" Ralsei said, dejected. “Well… there is this one dance I know, from this kind of old TV show.” He lowered his hands to his waist as he slowly started to move his shoulders up and down to the rhythm.
“Hey! That’s not bad, you’re even on beat!” Cap said, moving closer to Ralsei as they danced.
Neither of them paid much attention to the other as they lost themselves in the music, but they’re moves, consciously or not, brought them much closer than they might’ve gotten otherwise.
Eventually, the dancing died down, and the prince had to go. With a small smile and a wave, he rushed to catch up with the lightners. That was cute, Cap thought, grinning as he watched the lightners and Ralsei venture deeper into cyber city.
—
Cap’n shot straight up in bed. Cute?! Cute, like, as in, it was cute how bad he was, cute like how much he had to learn, right? Cap groaned and fell back onto his pillow. Oh, well. It’s not like he’d ever see the dark prince again. He was off saving the world with his lightner friends. This notion made Cap feel even worse. All he could think of was seeing his shy smiles, his little blushes…
No! They couldn’t be in love with the prince, he was the enemy! They tossed and turned, eventually drifting off to sleep as the cyber city skyline lit up (well, more than normal), and thoughts of the prince occupied their mind.
