Routines, wrong coffees and (bad) flirting

Summary:

Sakusa is a routine guy. And everyday, at 7:05 he would get his usual coffee at the same café.

Atsumu, on the other hand, its a huge mess. He has a college schedule as bad as his sleeping one and now a new job in a fancy coffee shop. He only hopes not to mess it up.

Sakusa's day is ruined when the new barista, Atsumu says his name tag, gives him the wrong coffee.

Work Text:

It had been a long time since Sakusa needed an alarm. He has been waking up at 6:30 in the morning for so long that his body was used to it, so he was already awake five minutes earlier. But he always waits for the alarm to ring. It is the routine. At 6:29 he has already turned in bed and has his eyes open, waiting for the alarm to ring so he could turn it off after three beeps. Not one more, or one less. Always three.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Sakusa turned off the alarm and, after setting it for the next day, he got out of bed, grabbed the clothes he left the night before on the table, and went to the bathroom. In the shower, he carefully rinses his hair, using a special shampoo for his curls. After drying his hair methodically, he gets dressed. Anyone who saw him could say that he had chosen the first thing that came out of his closet, but the truth is that Sakusa has chosen it carefully, aware of the image he wants others to have of him. Black skinny jeans and a white shirt, Kiyomi doesn't wear bright colors; he doesn't want to stand out in the crowd. He likes knowing he is never going to be the main character of anyone’s story. He is in love with being a minor character, one that you would only see once in your life. So, he became one. Proof is in the routine he has had for the last three years. Nothing interesting enough for people to notice.

Before going out, he makes sure to clean and tidy up the bathroom. By the time he leaves his house, mask on his face and hand sanitizer inside his backpack, it's already seven o’clock. Five minutes later, he is at his usual café, ready to get his drink to-go before heading to the campus.

Dazzling Café isn't a big café. There is hardly enough space for the eight tables it has, with two chairs at each and a counter that is way too large. On the counter are three coffee machines, a juice machine, and a large selection of pastries and cakes. If Sakusa was any other person, he would have tasted every cake flavor and would have discovered that the carrot cake is the house´s speciality. But, Sakusa isn't that kind of person and the only cake he has ever tasted is the pumpkin and only because Ushijima, the usual barista, gave him a sample. After that, he would only order a piece of pumpkin cake after his exam days.

Walking through the door and not hearing Ushijima´s voice welcoming him lets him know there's something wrong going on. Ushijima had become part of his routine, he might even consider him a friend (although can he even do that because he's only seen him at work and they have never met outside of that coffee shop?). Instead, he is greeted by a voice that immediately strikes him as irritating. And if he didn’t already think he was annoying based on his voice, actually seeing the guy who welcomed him and asked about his order, he realizes that it is a thousand times worse than expected. The first thing he notices is his hair. And it is terrible. Not only does he have an ugly haircut, but the shade of blonde is too light, as if he had done it himself with bleach. And you can see the roots. A lot. It is exaggerated.

Kiyomi knows that there’s only one barista in the mornings from Monday to Friday and that only in the afternoons and on weekends are there two baristas due to the amount of people who go to the café. But, he still looks for Ushijima. It's always him who serves him the coffee on Monday mornings, and that's not changing today.

Unfortunately, it seems like today is going to be the day, because the bad-dyed-hair-barista is alone at the counter, looking and waiting for him to move. Sakusa adjusts his mask and walks over.

“Welcome to Dazzling Café, what can I ser-'' the barista doesn't get to end the sentence because Sakusa interrupts him immediately.

“Where’s Ushijima?” he asks. The barista, who he now knows is called Atsumu based on his name tag, blinks a couple of times, confused.

“I… I don’t know. The boss said I was covering for him today.” Atsumu swears that he could feel how the patron relaxed and seems calmer now, thinking that it is a one day thing. “Can I serve you something?”

“Fine. I want a caramel cappuccino." Sakusa felt weird asking his usual order to a person who wasn't Ushijima. He has been serving him the same coffee for the last three years so he didn't even have to ask for it. Sometimes Ushijima had his order ready when he entered the coffee shop, like it was also part of his routine. Sakusa liked that. Sometimes Ushijima would joke about changing the order which would make Sakusa laugh. Having to say his order out loud to another person… It felt wrong.

The (fake) blond charged him and began to make him the coffee. Normally, while Ushijima was preparing his coffee, he and Sakusa discussed the latest episode of the tv show that they both were watching. It wasn ́t the best show, but it was funny and that was enough for Sakusa. What had Ushijima thought about that blonde ́s death at the end of the episode? He already knew the blonde girl was not a favorite of Ushijima, but she sacrificed herself so the rest of the gang wouldn't die… that definitely had to make the barista feel something, sorrow at least. The blonde ́s voice interrupted his thoughts.

“Sugar?”

“No thanks,” Sakusa replied. Atsumu gave him the coffee and wished him a good day, which Sakusa replied with a nod of his head and exited the coffee shop.

It only takes 10 minutes walking from the café to the campus, Sakusa knows it. Still, everyday, he gets there twenty minutes early. He doesn’t like being late; it is a distaste he has had ever since he was little. He doesn't like waiting for people who are late either. His cousin, Komori, knows that all too well. But, that doesn't stop him from still being a couple minutes late. (And yes, Sakusa is that kind of guy who counts the minutes you 're late.)

“Did you get trapped in your blanket?” Sakusa asked him  sarcastically.

“Good morning to you too” answered Komori, rolling his eyes. “got stopped at a red light”.

“Yeah, sure” Kiyoomi took the first sip of the coffee and immediately cringed in disgust. It tasted like vanilla. And he didn't order the vanilla one. He took another sip, just to double check. Just in case he was wrong. But, he wasn't. His coffee tastes like vanilla and he absolutely hated it.

“What’s wrong?” Komori asked, noticing that Sakusa had stopped with a frown.

“It tastes like vanilla”

“Oh! So you finally changed your order?”

“No I didn’t. The new barista changed it on me''

“Maybe you should give it a try, Kiyo,” said Komori. “Maybe you’ll like it.”

But, Sakusa wasn't willing to change his routine. He didn't want to change his order, he loved his caramel cappuccino and he wasn't going to change his everyday routine just because a random barista gave him the wrong coffee.

“Go to class, I'll be right back” Sakusa replied, turning back, heading back to the coffee shop. Komori hesitated to follow him, but he decided it was best to go to class and make sure no one sat in Sakusa´s seat. Because, it didn't matter if they were in college, Sakusa would claim the second chair to the left in the second row as his seat.

From Osamu:

How is your first day going?

fine i think

???

i mean it was going well until this really hot guy entered

and i screwed up his drink

Didn't you open like an hour ago?

Wasn't he like your first customer?

shut up

LMAOO

Suna says that you won't last much longer

The sound of the door opening made Atsumu look up. He opened the mouth to welcome the new client, but not a single word came out of his mouth when he saw the masked guy approaching the bar. Shit. He had noticed his mistake . Atsumu was torn between pretending he didn't know he gave him the wrong coffee or admitting his mistake.

“Hello again,” he said. “Are there any problems?”

“You gave me the wrong coffee.” Sakusa answered, leaving the drink on the counter.

So he had noticed. Atsumu couldn't tell if he was angry or just disappointed. Not being able to see half of his face was ruining it for him.

“Did I?” Atsumu chose to act like he didn't know. He would later blame someone else for changing the places of the syrups

“I do know I did not asked for a vanilla cappuccino”

“I know, you asked for a caramel cappuccino and that's what I gave ya” Atsumu crossed his arms.

“Well, my cappuccino doesn't taste like caramel,” Sakusa raised an eyebrow. “You can try it if you want, I´m not drinking that anymore”.

Atsumu looked at the cup of coffee over the counter. He knew the man was right and that there was no point in lying. But, he couldn't give him another coffee, this time a caramel one, without “proving” the client was right. He took the paper cup and drank a little bit. Vanilla flavor flooded his mouth, completely masking the taste of coffee. Atsumu had not only made the wrong flavor, but he had also put too much vanilla.

“It tastes like vanilla”, he conceived.

“That is what I said” the black-haired one rolled his eyes. “I do not like vanilla”

“I´m sorry,” Atsumu replied.  “I can make you the caramel cappuccino you ordered and a piece of cake for the inconvenience”.

If Atsumu knew Sakusa, he would have known that Sakusa didn't want the piece of cake. He barely ate cake and he would definitely not eat cake from the barista who had just ruined his day. But, Sakusa just wanted his correct coffee so he could get on with his day, so he wasn't going to complain. He would give that piece of cake to his cousin.

“Fine” Sakusa replied.

“What cake do you want?”

“The red velvet would work”.

“ Okay” Atsumu mumbled and went to the coffee machine to prepare the coffee.

Five minutes later, Sakusa was exiting Dazzling Café with his coffee and a generous piece of cake.

“What is this?” Komori asked him when he arrived in class and handed him the cake.

“An apology gift from the barista.” Sakusa replied while drinking his coffee.

***

The next day, Sakusa wakes up at the same time as always, just to find out that he had a free hour (thanks to his professor being sick). In this case, he didn't have the necessity of being earlier to college. He sent a text message to his cousin Komori, telling him that they would meet later that day and locked the phone.

Not having the first period left him with two free hours and, for once, he didn't have anything planned. He could start more assignments, but all the essays he had to do were already done. He also did not have notes to organize, so that only left him with watching a tv show. So, he followed his everyday routine, making bed, taking a shower, and cleaning the bathroom, but instead of leaving home right away, he sat on the couch and turned his tv on. He played this random show that Netflix recommended him and watched it, not being disgusted about it. It was interesting, so he might give it a try later.

Two episodes later, it was time for him to get ready to go to class. He turned off the tv and, after taking his backpack with him, he went down to the coffee shop. It was the first time in three years that he went there at a different hour and he only hoped Ushijima was still there. He didn't want to see that barista from the day before. It's not that he hated him, it’s just that he wanted his routine back. It may sound crazy but Sakusa loved the way he built his life around college and that caramel cappuccino.

He was about to enter the coffee shop, when he saw Ushijima exiting.

“Sakusa?” Ushijima asked, clearly confused by him going to the café at that hour. “I thought you were sick so that's why you didn´t came this morning”

“The lecturer got sick,” answered Sakusa. “I had two free hours so I stayed home. Did you finish your shift already?”

“Yes, I have class now. But don´t worry, Miya can  get you your coffee”.

“Miya?”

“The new barista. Dyed blond hair, looks like a jock”

“Oh, Atsumu''. Ushijima could swear that Sakusa’s mood changed. He knew he met Miya yesterday, but he was a good barista so that shouldn't be a problem. “It's okay. See you tomorrow Ushijima”.

“See you tomorrow,” he answered.

Ushijima left and Sakusa needed a couple of minutes more to get himself to the idea that somebody who wasn't ́ t Ushijima was going to serve him again. He entered the cafe, headed to the counter where the other barista, Atsumu, was already.

It was a different time, so the place was crowded. At the back, on a table, there was this guy who had already drunk half of his coffee and couldn´t stop keying his laptop. On another table, two girls were having breakfast while talking about their classes. On the counter, three college students in a hurry were waiting for their drink, checking their clock every two seconds, as if they were late. Sakusa got in line, leaving enough space between him and the person in front of him. He took his phone, checking the notifications. He had two text messages, both from his cousin Komori, that let him know that he was going to be alone at class because he felt sick. Sakusa answered him with two thumbs up, followed by a “get well soon”. He distracted himself by watching some instagram stories for a few minutes before he blocked the phone. The stressed students had already left and there were only two people in front of him, a boy and a girl who didn't know what to order. Sakusa rolled his eyes and took a look at the inside of the cafe again. The laptop guy stopped keying and his attention was on the phone. Sakusa didn´t know what he was doing, but it looked like the convo was more interesting than whatever he was doing on the laptop, and honestly, Sakusa couldn’t blame him.

Finally, the girl knew her order and the guy next in line ordered black coffee, so it was Sakusa’s turn.

“Welcome to Dazzling Café, what can I serve you?'' Atsumu looked tired but Sakusa didn’t say a thing.

“A caramel cappuccino. But this time a real caramel one”.

Atsumu looked up at the customer, only to find a judging look from the cute client from the day before.

“Sure you don't wanna try the vanilla one?” Atsumu joked while taking note of the order.

“No. I‘m fine with the caramel one”

“Okay okay” Atsumu laughed and after charging an not-very-happy-Sakusa, he asked for his name.

“Kiyoomi” Sakusa replied.

“Okay, a caramel cappuccino for Omi”

“Kiyoomi”

“That's what I said” Atsumu went to the machines to prepare Sakusa’s drink.

It didn’t take him a lot of time, in less than five minutes he had Sakusa’s order ready.

“A caramel cappuccino for Omi” Atsumu said.

“It´s Kiyoomi,” Sakusa corrected him again, taking the cup.

“Have a good day, Omi. ”

Sakusa rolled his eyes. Who did he think he was calling him Omi? At least he got his drink. And he was sure that he wouldn’t see him again. The next day Ushijima would serve him his drink and everything would go back to normal.

He took a sip of his drink, only to find out that, again , Atsumu got his order wrong. This time, it tasted like cinnamon. It was good, he had to admit, but it was not what he wanted, so he went back to the coffee shop.

The coffee shop had no queue at the moment, so Sakusa went straight to the counter.

“Any problem with the drink?” Atsumu looked at Sakusa.

“Does cinnamon look like caramel to you?” asked Sakusa, taking down his mask.”Cause not to me.”

Atsumu took a couple of seconds to realize what Sakusa was talking about. Did he mess up his drink again? Confused, he looked at the syrups container.

“Oh my god, Ushi switched the cinnamon and the caramel, I´m so sorry. I´ll change it for you. Give me five minutes” Atsumu seemed really sorry, so Sakusa thought he was sorry for real.

Five minutes later, Sakusa got his caramel cappuccino and left the café. He went to college, trying not to think that, for the second day in a row, his order was wrong.

***

Sakusa returned to the coffee shop the next morning at his usual hour just to find out Ushijima was in charge of the oven. That meant that once again, Atsumu was going to serve his drink. And of course, he would get it wrong. This time, he got a chocolate cappuccino.

On the fourth day, gingerbread latte. Sakusa gave Atsumu some credit, because he actually liked it, even though he still went back so he could get his caramel one.

“Have a nice day, Omi!” said Atsumu, giving him his actual order.

“Now that I have my drink I will” Sakusa answered back before leaving the café.

The next day was no better, Atsumu did give him an almond coffee and started calling him Omi-Omi , which was way worse. Sakusa couldn't stand the new barista and Ushijima just told him that Atsumu would be on the morning shift for a couple of months. And for Sakusa, that looked like a really long time.

***

How long could Atsumu keep getting his order wrong? Sakusa thought. He wasn't complaining about not having Ushijima serve him his drink but Atsumu getting it wrong. And the worst thing is, everyone seemed to like the blonde one as the new barista. Sakusa was confused, was he the only one getting his order wrong? He wasn't sure but the girl before him asked for his same to-go-drink and left the café happy. Maybe Atsumu had learnt how to serve the correct order

“Good morning Omi-Omi, it's nice to have you back” Atsumu waved at him.

“Kiyoomi” Sakusa corrected, again. Before Atsumu could ask, he started saying “I want what she had”. Kiyoomi pointed to the girl who had just got his drink in front of him. And he heard it was his drink. Maybe that way Atsumu could get his order correctly.

“Okay. Anything else?”

“No.”

“If that coffee is all your breakfast you should really get something else.”

Sakusa had only had coffee for breakfast since high school, so he was used to hunger at eleven a.m. It didn’t bother him, so he just shook his head.

“I’m okay. I don't need anything else. But I need you to hurry up. I have an exam in twenty minutes.” It was in forty, but Atsumu didn't need to know.

“Don't worry, I'll have it in a sec.” Atsumu took the money and started preparing his order. Sakusa watched the blond move around the little space he had, while preparing his coffee. Atsumu and Ushijima couldn´t be more different. While Ushijima seemed to know where everything was, Atsumu was more hesitant, checking twice that he didn't take the wrong syrup by accident. It was hypnotic in a way Sakusa didn't understand, but he couldn't help himself and he would stare at him more than he should.

“Omi-Omi, your order is ready!” Atsumu’s voice woke him up.

“Thank you. Have a good day”

Sakusa took the drink and left the café. It took him five minutes to notice the drink was a Toffee nut latte and that he had to go back. He checked the order recipe, thinking that maybe the girl got a different order, but not to his surprise, Atsumu got his order wrong. Again.

And like the days before, he turned back to the damn coffee shop and complained again about the wrong order.

“Wow Omi-Omi, you´re getting slower” Atsumu laughed when Sakusa showed him the cup. “I was starting to think that you actually liked this one”

“And yet, you still failed. Now, if you don´t mind, can I get my actual order?”

“Can you remind me what it was?” Atsumu leaned into the bar, looking funny. “I think it was the chocolate cappuccino, right?”

Sakusa rolled his eyes before answering. “How did you even get the job here? It´s a caramel cappuccino.”

“Well, you don't seem like the type of guy who would ask for the caramel one” Atsumu replied as he turned around to get the drink ready. “Sure you don't wanna try a different one?”

“Again, no.”

“Okay okay” Atsumu laughed. “But Omi-Omi, you should really try new flavors.”

Atsumu knew how to get Sakusa on his nerves. First with the wrong orders and then with that stupid nickname… Omi-Omi . Every time he corrected Atsumu to get his name right, Atsumu would laugh and call him Omi-Omi again. He knew Atsumu was an extrovert and talked with every other client, but it seemed like the nickname was just for him. Maybe he was making fun of him.

“Omi-Omi, are you still here?” his (not really) awful voice brought him out of his thoughts. How did he got lost there in the first place?

“Uhm yeah yeah.” Sakusa blinked a couple of times before noticing the drink Atsumu was holding out to him. “Thanks.”

“Good luck in your exam, Omi” Atsumu gave him a soft smile and Sakusa felt weird. He needed a few seconds before answering.

“Thanks… again. I should get going” Sakusa took the drink and left the café in a rush, not letting Atsumu say goodbye.

***

Sakusa noticed later that day that in the cup there was something written. It was a phone number. “Good luck today, Omi-Omi”. Did Atsumu just give him his number? Why? Sakusa couldn't think of a good reason why the blond would give him his number. It's not like they were friends. Panicked, he went to the only person he could trust, his cousin.

“So he calls you Omi-Omi and just gives you his number, right?” Sakusa nodded his head while showing him the cup with Atsumu ́s number on it. “And you're asking me what should you do?” Sakusa nodded again and Komori laughed.

“Why are you laughing?” Sakusa seemed to be really confused. He didn't understand why his cousin was laughing. Did he say something funny without knowing it?

“I mean, it's pretty obvious what you should do. But the real question here is, what do you want to do?”

“What do I want to do?” Sakusa repeated, to the amusement of his cousin. He didn't know, so that's why he asked Komori. Did he want to talk to Atsumu outside the coffee shop? No. That was for sure. Then why was it so hard for him to say it out loud?

“Listen,” his cousin said after a bit. “If I were you I would talk to him. But I know how you are so just let me save the number in your phone for you. You don't have to do anything else, but this way you will have the option to do something, in case you want to”.

His cousin made a good point, so he gave him his phone. Komori took only a minute to add the number under the name of “Atsumu Dazzling”. He knew that if he tried to save it with a funny name (or other rather than how Sakusa would actually save him), he would ignore the number. I mean, he still had Komori as “Komori cousin”.

“Whatever you decide to do is okay, Sakusa” Komori reminded him before getting up from the chair he was in. “Just let me know what you do, okay?”

“Okay” murmured Sakusa while cleaning the phone. “Maybe I'll text him.”

“That would be nice.”

***

Sakusa tried to text the barista a few times, but he didn't know what to say. “My exam went well. I'm Sakusa. '' and “I hope you learned how to make a caramel cappuccino” were his two options and he knew neither of them was good enough to send it so the day went by and he didn't text him. He will see him the next day at the café and he will explain to him he's bad at texting.

But the next morning Atsumu seemed to be busier than ever and barely paid him attention. He still got his order wrong (strawberry frappuccino?? it's not even close to what he asked) and when he came back for his actual order, Atsumu already got it.

“Here you go, Omi-Omi,” the blond said. Sakusa wanted to say something, but a new client entered and started ordering, ignoring that Sakusa was still next to Atsumu. So he left the café.

Maybe he did the good thing by not texting him.

***

Changing the coffee shop wasn't his greatest idea. But he couldn't help it. He thought the barista had enough of him and, honestly, getting his order right the first time seemed like a win to him. So instead of going to Dazzling Café, he went to the coffee shop in front of it. He didn't care if Atsumu saw him (false, he cared).

The coffee shop was okay. It didn't have a lot of decoration but it seemed cool. White and black were all over the place. The barista didn’t welcome him, which felt weird. He was used to the voice of Ushijima, now Atsumu’s one, always welcoming him, no matter how early it was, so not hearing anything was weird. He went to the counter and ordered his caramel cappuccino. It was nice getting his order right. Once he paid, he left the coffee shop and went to the campus, without giving a second thought to it.

The day went through without any incidents, just like Sakusa liked it. He was already leaving the campus when he noticed a familiar blond hair just a few meters away. Atsumu? Sakusa nodded his head, throwing away that thought. But he was getting closer to the blond boy and he looked so so familiar that he was starting to think he was, in fact, the stupid barista.

“Omi-Omi?”

So yes, the blond guy was, in fact, Atsumu.

“Hey” Sakusa answered.

“Are you okay? You didn´t came to the coffee shop today”

So he noticed . Sakusa didn´t know what to say. It was obvious he was okay. He couldn’t lie about it.

“Yes, I´m okay,” he answered. “I was late for class and I couldn’t get my coffee”

“You got asleep Omi-Omi?” Atsumu raised an eyebrow, trying not to laugh. It was obvious he didn’t believe him. “Well, next time make sure you don't skip breakfast. Better be late to class than not having it”

Sakusa let a brief laugh leave his mouth. Did he just say that? No way.

“Some of us take our classes seriously,” he answered back.

“And some of us, our health.” Atsumu smiled at him. “No but seriously, you shouldn't skip the most important meal of the day. Next time this happens, hit me up and I’ll bring you a coffee.”

“It is not necessary, Miya.” Sakusa crossed his arms while raising an eyebrow. “Plus I'm not sure about asking you for a coffee. You never got it right”

“Oh, is that why you didn't come today so?”

“No! I already told you. I was late to class” Sakusa seemed to be pretty offended by that suggestion, even though it was the truth. A truth that Atsumu didn’t have to know.

“I know, Omi-Omi, I was joking!” Atsumu laughed and Sakusa felt weird. Like if he had something in his stomach and it liked the sound of Atsumu’s laugh. And he didn’t like that. He had to figure out an exit. Fortunately, he didn’t have to think that much, because suddenly Miya´s phone started ringing. Atsumu looked at who was calling him and, by his face, it seemed important “Sorry Omi… I have to take it”. Sakusa nodded. “See you tomorrow, Omi-Omi!”

And just like that, Atsumu left Sakusa alone. Sakusa, who started walking while thinking about Atsumu’s last words. See you tomorrow. He was counting on seeing him again, like if he was part of his routine, just as much as he had been of his past seven days. And maybe, only maybe, that scared Sakusa.

***

For the next few days, Sakusa avoided Dazzling Café as much as possible. That would mean not only not going, but to order coffee at another coffee shop, one closer to the campus. It was also taking the long way home, staying alert just in case Atsumu appeared and ignoring Ushijima's latest texts about that show they both liked. He wasn’t proud of it, but he couldn’t help it. He even talked about this with Komori and he laughed at him, saying it was pretty obvious what was happening. And that he should go back to his café and talk with Atsumu. But of course Sakusa would ignore him. Because he was wrong and nothing was happening between him and Atsumu. He just hated how he had to go back to the café every time to get his order right. He didn't have a crush on Atsumu. Ew.

But suddenly, Atsumu was everywhere. Sakusa had a list of places he had found Atsumu (and hid from him successfully). So far, the list had: the supermarket (he hid in the cleaning section), the campus (sometimes Atsumu waved at him, but most of the time he was able to hide), the park (what were the chances they would cross each other if that park was huge? apparently pretty high), the street and his fave home decor shop.  “Maybe the gods are telling you something,” Komori told him after that last one. “And maybe the gods don't know a shit,” he replied.

But maybe the gods were right, because he just got to the campus and Atsumu was there, sitting on the bus stop with a coffee in his hand. He wanted to leave as soon as he saw him, but Atsumu was faster this time and saw him.

“Omi-Omi” he said, getting up. “Hey.”

“Hey” Sakusa looked at him, forcing a smile under his mask. Luckily, Atsumu would notice it by the way his eyes crinkled. “I didn't expect to see you here. I mean, not this early. I thought- I- Ugh.” Great, Sakusa, great. He took a couple of seconds before speaking again. “What I wanted to say, I thought you were at Dazzling Café.”

“Not today. I have an exam in, like, twenty minutes.” It was now when Sakusa noticed that Atsumu not only had a coffee on his hand, but some notes on the other. He couldn't see what they were about, but he could see that they were wrinkled, as if he had been studying them for a long time.

“Oh… Good luck then,” he replied. “I hope you do good.”

He added that last sentence because he thought that might cheer. the barista. And maybe it did, cause Atsumu was smiling again.

“Thanks, Omi-Omi. Oh, by the way, did you have your coffee today?”

“No. I had juice at home” and it was a lie. He went to this new coffee shop he saw the day before but, to his surprise, it was closed. So yes, he didn’t have coffee, but he didn’t have juice either.

“Just juice? Omi I told you you should have more for breakfast. Look, take this.” Atsumu lent out his hand with the coffee. “I didn’t drink, in case you’re worried about that.”

Sakusa looked suspiciously at the coffee. He only drank a type of coffee and Atsumu didn’t seem to remember what it was. But the sound of his stomach, remembering he hadn’t had any type of breakfast, embarrassed him enough so he would take the drink.

“Thanks.”

“There’s nothing to worry about!” Atsumu interrupted him, before he could say anything else. “I hope you like this one. Now I have to go, see you later?”

“Yeah,” Sakusa replied, not knowing if that would be true.

He saw Atsumu leave and only when he was sure he couldn't be watching him, he took a sip of the coffee. Of all the things he expected, he didn’t expect it to be actual caramel cappuccino. His to-go-drink. Maybe Atsumu remembered it, or maybe he just prepared himself that drink because he liked it. Anyways, he was happy with it, and he took it to class with him.

Komori was the one to notice something in the cup that Sakusa didn’t. “So you went to Dazzling Café again?” he would ask his cousin. Sakusa nodded with his head, he didn’t go. “Then why is Omi-Omi written in the cup?” he asked again, pointing to the cup. Sakusa looked at the cup and noticed it. When did Atsumu wrote Omi-Omi? Not while they were talking, for sure. He would have noticed it.

“I crossed paths with Atsumu and he gave it to me,” Sakusa finally answered.

“Oh, so he was casually carrying a cup with your name just in case he sees you?”

“Not only my name, but my order,” Sakusa added, which made Komori open his eyes.

“Oh my god Sakusa, you have to text this boy and thank him for the coffee. Now. You still have his number, right?” Sakusa nodded and took out his phone. “Okay, first of all you have to tell him it is you, because I strongly believe you haven't talked to him. Then, you thank him for the coffee and find a way to keep the convo going”

Sakusa was happy he got back his routine. Or at least, most of it. He would get his coffee at Dazzling Café, but it wasn’t Ushijima who was serving him anymore. It was Atsumu, who would serve him his caramel cappuccino only four times a week. On Fridays, Atsumu would give him a different type of coffee. Sakusa at first was annoyed. He got his order right for four consecutive days, why would he go back to serving him the wrong one? “It's our thing, you know Omi-Omi?” So now he would look up every Friday, to see which coffee Atsumu had chosen for him.
