Happy Birthday Four Eyes

Summary:

Swamped with the responsibilities that come with being the new Commander of the Survey Corps, Hange forgets a very important day, luckily Levi is there to remember for her.

Work Text:

Hange had been working furiously at her desk until the early hours of the morning, determined to make a dent in the ever growing pile of paperwork that never seemed to get smaller when Levi found her. He let himself in as he normally did and placed a fresh cup of in front of her as he perched on the edge of her desk, he rolled his eyes when she didn't say anything, clearly too engrossed in the paperwork.

"Oi shitty glasses surely those reports can't be as interesting as me" he joked to her getting her to lift her head and smirk half-heartedly at his attempt at being humorous.

"Sorry Levi but I've got to get these done before the meeting today" she said apologetically starting to go back to working on the reports until Levi grabbed them and moved them away from her "Hey, Levi this isn't funny I need to get these done before..."

"You don't need to do anything today, I postponed everything you had planned today so you could have a day off" Levi told her sheepishly with a small smile.

"Huh, why'd you do that for?" Hange demanded looking at him in confusion making Levi raise his eyebrow in disbelief and roll his eyes when he realised se genuinely had no idea what today was.

"Tch, unbelievable you've really forgotten haven't you?" he said incredulously

"Forgotten what?" she huffed in annoyance hating the fact that Levi wouldn't tell her making Levi scoff again as he put the papers down neatly

"Tch, its your birthday today idiot" he finally revealed to her making her look at him in shock.

"It is?...since when?" she asked checking the date to confirm it was true.

"I'd assume since midnight last night but I could be mistaken" Levi retorted sarcastically making her roll her eyes at him before he slid off the desk gracefully "Come on get ready, we're going out today to celebrate" he instructed her.

"Where are we going?" she asked him curiously and he smiled slyly

"You'll have to come with me to find that out shitty glasses" he told her smugly "I'll wait for you by the stables in ten minutes" he acquiesced and all she could do was nod as he left the room to get ready himself.

Finally Hange was ready and Levi looked up from his pocket watch when he saw her.

"Perfect timing shitty glasses, I'm impressed" Levi smirked earning him a playful slap on the shoulder from his beloved Hange as he turned to look at her in adoration "You look incredible" he complimented her breathlessly as he checked her out. She was wearing her favourite yellow shirt and black trousers along with that black jacket they would always fight over.

"You don't look too bad yourself shorty" Hange returned the compliment with a small smile "Now are you going to tell me where we're going?" she pressed making his smile smugly again.

"Right follow me" he said as he got on his horse and waited for her to mount hers before heading outside the gates.

Eventually they made it to the beach they had first gone to all those months ago, it still felt surreal seeing it truthfully. They had spent so much effort, resources and lost so many lives just to get here it still felt like a miracle that they had even made it. Levi took her to a small hidden area that was away from the main part of the beach, he got off his horse and walked over to help her off hers.

"Ever the gentleman eh Levi?" she sniggered at him making him roll his eyes again.

"For you, always" he told her before helping her down and holding her hand in his softly.

He finally led them a little further up where he had laid a blanket on the floor on top there was a basket which contained food for the pair of them, there was a bottle of her favourite wine and a small present beside all of it. Hange looked at the setup in awe as grin made its way onto her face at how thoughtful this all was of Levi to do.

"Happy birthday Hange" Levi murmured kissing her cheek softly as he stood by her side just like he always did.

"Levi, this is...when did you find time to do all of this?" she asked him looking completely awestruck

"I may or may not have snuck out early this morning to set this up after buying everything I needed last night" he shrugged like it was no big deal "Now come and sit down already" he ordered her impatiently as he sat down on the blanket and started taking things out of the picnic basket.

"You've really out done yourself this time Levi" Hange smiled again as she admired the treasure trove of treats Levi had picked up from the market for her to try, he had managed to buy all her favourite foods, from her favourite fruits to the pastries she enjoyed so much.

"Tch if anyone deserves to be spoilt today its you Hange, now dig in, I can't eat this by myself you know" Levi said as he served her a plate full of all the delicious foods he had brought for her.

"Thanks Levi" Hange beamed at him, she was so grateful to have a husband like him, he really cared for her so much and it was evident on days like today when he would put in so much time and thought into making it special for her.

"I chose this spot because it has the best view of the sunset, you can see it setting all the way down...I haven't seen it yet because I wanted to show it to you but Arlert says its beautiful" Levi explained to her.

"I'm sure it will be Levi, thank you for this, I really needed it" Hange said gratefully making Levi look at her fondly with a proud smile.

"I know the role of Commander must be tough but...I wanted to remind you that you can still have moments like this even if your one of the most important people in our ranks right now" Levi explained with a sigh, he looked so relaxed right now laying down next to her just enjoying the time they had together away from responsibilities as Commander and Captain.

Hange leaned in and gave him a sweet peck on the lips making him moan softly as he went to grip her hair and deepen the kiss.

"I love you...so much...thank you for...reminding me" Hange managed to say in between kisses from her persistent husband.

"You deserve to see this as much as anyone else, you always wanted to explore the world beyond the walls, well here's a good pace to start" Levi tod her sincerely making her smile back at him again, she really was the luckiest person in the world to have someone like Levi.

"I intend to don't you worry about that Captain" Hange assured him

"Good" Levi nodded smiling back at her "Hopefully this can hep you" he breathed handing her his present for her. She opened it and saw that it was a book about identifying sea creatures, Hange gasped in excitement as she flicked through the pages enthusiastically, practically absorbing the information she read.

"Levi this is perfect, thank you so much" she exclaimed excitedly and Levi revelled in the moment where the old Hange managed to break free a little bit again, He had missed seeing his enthusiastically, crazy wife running around taking notes on anything and everything she could so it was nice to see her return momentarily as she started trying to identify the fish and other creatures she was able to find.

Eventually she came back looking tired, windswept from the sea breeze, a little tanned from the sun but overall very happy.

"So did you find anything?" he asked her curiously handing her a bottle of water which she took and gulped down a generous portion.

"I found lots of things, crabs, starfish, even a small school of fish" she told him excitedly "I haven't fully identified the yet but I've narrowed it down to two options..." she started as Levi just sat next to her, listening silently to her ramblings.

"Oi four eyes, the suns setting" Levi pointed out to her managing to distract her from her book as they watched it together wrapped up in a blanket, staring in awe as the sky seemed to set ablaze with colour.

"Its beautiful" Hange gasped breathlessly her eyes fixated on the sun disappearing over the horizon

"It is but its still not the most beautiful thing I've seen" Levi confessed making her turn to face him.

"Really?, then what is?" she asked him curiously making him roll his eyes and grab her ponytail like he always did.

"I was taking about you" he breathed as he leaned in closer to kiss her passionately which she happily returned holding his face in her hands as they kissed during the last moments of the setting sun.

"Happy birthday four eyes" Levi mumbled against her lips when they pulled away for air

"Thank you for remembering it" Hange said thankfully before cuddling up to him tightly to watch the stars twinkling in the sky.
