Work Text:
Jason followed Roy and Lian to their wagon, Jason let out a shaky breath as Roy put his valise in the back. He was worried that in a few hours he’d be no longer welcome, once Roy discovered his little secret he was sure to be pushed away.
Which would be really terrible because he was already half in love with Lian. She hadn’t stopped babbling about anything and everything to Miss Jasmine since they’d met. Jason was willing to put up with a lot for such a darling little girl. She was currently talking his ear off about her horse that she had back home.
Plus Roy was exactly the type of rugged handsome man that Jason was drawn to. He was the kind of man that would have gotten Jason in so much trouble before. Exactly the kind of person that he’d daydreamed about back east. The bright smile, gentle nature and god he was so handsome he took Jason’s breath away.
But the only reason he’d signed up to be a mail order bride was to get out of Gotham. He hadn’t really planned on sticking around for his new husband so it didn’t really matter if Roy couldn't handle the fact he had a dick swinging between his legs. It would just kind of be a disappointment, it's not like he couldn’t fight his way out of a bad situation. Jason was a survivor and he’d come up with some way to make it out of anything.
Roy finished loading his stuff in the wagon and turned to face his new bride.
“We live about an hour or so further west so we need to get moving soon if we want to make it back by dark. Did you need anything before we rustle up the Justice of the Peace to get hitched?” Roy asked with a blush on his face and a sweet smile.
“No? No, I’m ready.” Jason choked out.
He’d known the whole time that it would be this way, that he’d meet and marry his new husband all at the same time. Because it wasn’t proper for a young lady to live with a man that wasn’t her husband and even the Wild West wasn't that uncivilized. But he hadn’t expected to be attracted to the man that he met, he hadn’t expected he'd want to stay because of a bright eyed little munchkin that made his heart melt and brought a smile to his face.
Roy and Lian guided him through the small town to the tiny courthouse. Ignoring the judging stares with an ease that spoke of years of practice.
Once they got to the court house the judge's wife took him aside to help him ‘freshen up’ from the road. As soon as they got out of ‘hearing distance’ from his new husband she started gossiping.
“I know that half breed sounds like a good catch, being adopted into all that money but he is still an Indian you know and breeding will out. Then you’d have to raise his heathen brat too? Does she even know how to speak English?”
Jason was shocked at the sheer audacity of this old biddy, they weren’t even ten feet away before she started bad mouthing his soon-to-be-husband. He could tell by the tightening of Roy’s jaw and the glare on Lian’s face that she had not in fact waited till they were out of hearing distance before she let loose her moral tirade about the filthy half breeds. Jason excused himself as soon as possible and hurried back to Roy’s side.
“Let’s just go ahead and get married, I don’t want to spend anymore time in town.” He said quickly.
“Are you sure?” Roy looked at him carefully. “Just because you came all this way doesn’t mean I'm going to force you to marry me.”
“It would be my absolute pleasure to marry you.” Jason said with a look of pure desire in his eyes.
They stood before the Justice of the Peace who pronounced them married. He had all three of them sign the town register. Lian had insisted she sign too, so she could have a new momma. Fortunately, the man was a lot more relaxed than his wife and let her sign the papers as a witness.
After the quick ceremony and even quicker congratulations the new family rode out of town, the two adults just listening to Lian prattle about anything and everything that came to her head. It was late when the trio made it to Roy’s homestead. Roy looked over his shoulder at Lian who had passed out on the supplies a half hour ago. His gaze softened as he looked at her, he looked at her like he’d try to find a way to bring her the stars if she asked. It honestly took Jason’s breath away, he couldn’t remember if anyone had ever looked at him that way.
“Do you think you can carry her inside, while I take care of the horses?” Roy said quietly.
“Of course.” Jason scooped her up and took her into the house. He was surprised that the place was so spacious, he found a room with a small bed with a doll on it so he laid her down and tucked her into bed. Jason lost himself in running his fingers through her hair, before he realized that Roy would probably need some help bringing in the things they had bought in town. Jason pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead before heading back out to the wagon to help his new husband unload.
“Thank you.” Roy said quietly.
“For what?” Jason was honestly confused, he hadn’t done anything special.
“For not judging my little girl despite her heritage.” He said. “Everyone around here, they just see me as the upstart little Indian that Ollie took in. Then when they see her they just see her mother’s features and get even more mad that she isn’t ‘pure enough’ to be the granddaughter of the richest man in six counties.”
“I can’t help that everyone else is blind. You're a good man, it doesn’t matter where you came from and she is an adorable child.”
"Just thank you. It's not often that we get anyone so understanding out here."
"Well, it's not like I have ever been a normal girl myself." Jason said, he grabbed a twenty-five pound bag of flour, tossed it up on his shoulder and took it inside.
Roy's eyes lingered on the bulging muscle straining her dress sleeves, he swallowed and adjusted his pants, oh, this was going to be sweet torture. He was always attracted to strong people. He just wanted someone who could pin him against a wall if they chose to, and it looked like his new bride would definitely have the strength to pull that off.
The two of them finished unloading the supplies pretty quickly. Roy stood awkwardly in the main room unsure how to handle their wedding night. He'd mostly decided to marry so that Lian would have a mother. He hadn't expected to actually be attracted to his bride.
"Umm, the bedroom is through here."
Roy opened their bedroom door showing Jasmine where she could put her things. Roy stood in the room awkwardly unsure of what to do with himself. Jason smiled at how handsome the redhead was when nervous.
Roy said softly. “How about you go ahead and get ready for bed and I’m gonna check on Lian real quick.”
Jason nodded and went into the bedroom alone. He stripped out of the travel worn dress and then found one of the frilly nightgowns one of the girls had lent him. Thankfully it covered him completely, he went ahead and got in the bed hoping if he pretended to be asleep Roy wouldn’t try anything. Jason hid a knife under his pillow just in case; it had kept him alive more than once in Gotham.
Roy slipped in the room quietly. He noticed that his bride was already in bed with the covers pulled up tight. He sat on the edge of his bed and removed his boots, then he took off the rest of his clothes leaving him in just his long johns. He blew out the lamp and slipped under the covers.
“Good night Jasmine,” He said.
Jason tensed at the sound of Roy’s voice along his back.
"You can relax. I won't make you do anything you don’t want to,” Roy said. “Just sleep, Lian gets up bright and early. In the morning I can show you around the place.”
Slowly the tension eased out of Jason’s posture as Roy continued to do nothing. After a long while Jay whispered into the dark.
“Good night Roy.”
