Summary:

He gave his heart to a falling star.

Notes:

Hello to whoever reads this. This was just something self indulgent. The inspiration for this is Coheed and Cambria’s The Afterman. Thank you for reading this.

Work Text:

The door slams open as the human couple crashes through it, lips locked in a heated kiss. Jongin pushes Kyungsoo against the wall opposite the door.

“Kyungsoo,” Jongin moans his husband’s name. His lips move frantically over Kyungsoo’s face and neck, returning to his red, plump lips, suckling and biting them. Kyungsoo buries his fingers in Jongin’s hair pulling tightly, as Jongin’s hands travel down to squeeze his ass.

Kyungsoo groans loudly, as they grind, in the front hallway of their home. He pushes at Jongin’s formal clothing in an attempt to delight in the heat of Jongin’s body.

Jongin smirks, pinning Kyungsoo’s hands above his head. He grinds their hips together, teasing Kyungsoo, who can do nothing more but whimper and moan against Jongin’s lips. Their breathing erratic from the racing of their hearts.

“Jongin. Please.” Kyungsoo’s voice breaks as he pleads for more, for relief. Jongin relents and kicks the front door closed. He guides Kyungsoo backwards all the while discarding their clothing haphazardly in the hallway, lips never separating for more than a second.

Their hands grasp at each other, as if the other might disappear. Their legs tangle making the journey to their bedroom a long one. They stop to press their bodies together. Committing to memory the feel of the other, the heat of their bodies, and the love they share in this moment.

Jongin picks him up, hands underneath his thighs, as Kyungsoo’s legs circle his waist. Their minds racing with sensory overload.

He carefully sets Kyungsoo down on the bed. His eyes roaming his husband’s body. Tracing the lines and dips with his hands. He feels comfort in the moles that dot his chest, in the small scar under his topmost rib. Jongin’s hands caress his sides over the slope of his hips, to his thighs. He relishes in the softness of it all. This is his home. The one person that has accepted him, failures and all. Jongin takes his time to worship Kyungsoo one last time, the way he deserves.

Kyungsoo shivers as he waits. His heart beats painfully in his chest. It clenches when he remembers the severity of the situation, filling his eyes with unshed tears. He watches his love touch him with reverence. It’s almost as if it’s their first time again. They’ve come a long way since then. Their love a strong fortress compared to the fragility of new love.

Jongin cups Kyungsoo’s face, meeting his eyes. It is then that Jongin sees it. The anger. The heartbreak. The worry. The sadness. But above all the love and tenderness. Jongin rubs his thumbs across his cheeks, eyebrows knitted together, in an apology he can’t quite speak.

Kyungsoo closes his eyes. A single tear rolls  down his cheek and over Jongin’s thumb. He can’t look at him. He knows the world will crash down if he dares to meet those warm chocolate eyes.

“Kyungsoo.” Jongin whispers his name.

Kyungsoo slowly opens his eyes. “Jongin. Please.” Kyungsoo begs for Jongin to take him. To find comfort in his body one last time. He presses an open mouthed kiss on Jongin’s wrist.

Jongin smiles sadly and moves them to lay down in the center of the bed. The light streams in brightly through the skylight in their room. Basking them in pure, white light. Washing away the pain of their impending separation.

“Come here Jongin.” Kyungsoo spreads his legs wider to accept his husband. Jongin slowly approaches him. All rushing gone. Frantic movements replaced with gentle, slow touches. They kiss for what seems an eternity before Jongin moves to leave his mark on every part of Kyungsoo’s body.

Kyungsoo moans as Jongin flicks and circles his dusky pink nipples with his finger. Gently he takes one into his mouth. He cherishes the body beneath him. He is his greatest treasure. Jongin’s greatest triumph.

Kyungsoo cards his fingers through Jongin’s hair. Admiring the glint of moonlight off his platinum wedding band. He moans as he feels Jongin reach his abdomen. He traces his nose along his waist and lower still. Hyper aware of every movement.

“Jongin!” Kyungsoo cries out as Jongin buries his nose into the side of his shaft. Jongin closes his eyes and inhales, never wanting to leave this moment. He leaves hot open mouthed kisses on his length and pulls away, smiling at the impatient noises Kyungsoo makes.

“Patience, love.”

Jongin returns to the path he set on. He moves down to Kyungsoo’s thighs, feeling the fullness of them in his hands. He opens them wider, leaving sloppy wet kisses and purplish marks in his wake. After giving attention to both, he sits back to admire his work.

“You’re so beautiful Kyungsoo.” Kyungsoo felt a small blush rise to his cheeks, shyly tries to hide his face in the pillows.

“Don’t hide. I want to see you.” Kyungsoo looks at the man above him. The only person he’s ever loved and promises to never look away. Jongin moves to their bedside table for a small bottle. He presses a kiss to Kyungsoo’s lips before leaning back again.

He drenches his fingers in lube and moves his finger to tease the tight ring of muscles. Kyungsoo shudders at the touch. Jongin slowly sinks his finger in, letting Kyungsoo get comfortable before he starts moving.

“Ah. Jongin. Another one please.” Jongin can do nothing but oblige. Three fingers in Jongin pulls away to coat his length. He brings his tip to Kyungsoo’s entrance.

“Kyungsoo. I love you.” With their fingers interlocked, Jongin pushes in to the hilt, moaning in unison at the fullness and warmth.

“J-Jongin.” Jongin groans at the tightness of Kyungsoo’s heat. He slowly makes love to him. Taking care that Kyungsoo is comfortable and enjoying every second. Their hearts race. Breaths reach a fever pitch. Their moans loud and unashamed. The bed creaks under the increasing movements.

Kyungsoo was so, so close. He looks into Jongin’s eyes. He sees the adoration and love he has for him, tears making his eyes shine. With a cry of Jongin’s name, Kyungsoo tumbles over the edge. He comes hard between their bodies, as he clenches around him. Seeing Kyungsoo so wrecked pushes Jongin into his own orgasm, tightening his hold on Kyungsoo’s hand.

They lay connected, listening to the beating of their hearts, for it may be the last time. Jongin rolls them onto their sides, keeping their eyes trained on the other. He slowly lifts his hand to trace the curves around his face. Kyungsoo holds his breath, as if that might keep the bubbling emotions from escaping.

Jongin caresses his eyebrow, smoothing it from the inside outward. He runs his finger over his closed eyelid, softly brushing his eyelashes as he roves over them. As Kyungsoo opens his eyes, Jongin moves his thumb over the skin underneath, trying to erase the darkness on his pale skin, knowing he caused it in the first place. He continues his journey downward, breath slightly quickening. He cups Kyungsoo’s cheek, holding him still, smearing the tear tracks with his thumb. His eyes begin to fill. He’s panting now.

“Kyungsoo,“ Jongin croaks out, throat dry. He raises his eyes to meet wide, tear filled eyes. In a sudden move, Jongin crushes Kyungsoo into a hug. They cry into each other’s arms, trying desperately to find comfort in the hurt.

They never find it.

Kyungsoo wakes up slowly, the next day. He rubs the sleep from his swollen eyes. He gasps, looking over for Jongin. He’s gone. The time reads 7:45.

He still has time.

Kyungsoo changes into a clean white shirt and pants. He slips on his comfortable shoes and runs out of the house, keys in hand. Gritting his teeth, Kyungsoo drives to their special place on the beach, as fast as he can.

He hits the ground running, once he arrives. He checks the watch Jongin gifted him, 8:05.

Am I late?

Kyungsoo runs through the sand, to the edge of the water. He trains his eyes on the rocket taking off in the distance, watching as a series of motors and thrusters take his husband away. Kyungsoo feels the butterflies in his stomach fluttering madly, nervousness rising up to grip his throat. He says a silent prayer, that Jongin may have a safe flight, that he may return to him.

Tears gather in his eyes, blurring his view as the rocket follows its trajectory into the Keywork. The emotions are to much. They begin to consume him. His heart clenches tightly at the loss of his love. Bile rises in his throat. Kyungsoo clamps his hand over his mouth to prevent the wails he‘s sure would come out given the chance.

Suddenly he feels a pang of fear and uncertainty. Something‘s wrong

He watches in horror as the rocket explodes, a big flash of yellows, reds and oranges against the gray backdrop of the clouds. He grips the binoculars hanging around his neck, raising them to his eye.

His heart is pounding so loud. There is a darkness around the edges of his consciousness.

Please.

His mind flashes black for a second.

He blinks his eyes to disperse the fog of his mind, as his eyes desperately search through the smoke cloud in the sky.

Please.

Please.

It takes a few minutes but finally he sees it. A small white parachute floating through the sky. Relief floods his body. Adrenaline spikes and urges him to take action. Kyungsoo hurriedly pushes their rowboat into the turbulent waves of the lake and climbs aboard.

Kyungsoo can see it without the binoculars now. Hope sailing through the sky towards the middle of the lake. He rows as fast as he can reaching the the spot at the same time Jongin submerges. Kyungsoo jumps in after him.

He finds Jongin struggling to disentangle himself and helps him ditch the parachute. They break the surface and swim towards the rowboat. Jongin coughs violently as he pulls himself aboard. Kyungsoo hurriedly takes off his astronaut’s suit, letting him breathe easier.

He pats Jongin’s back as they both regain their breathing and takes the small blanket inside the boat to drape it around his shoulders. He runs his hands over Jongin’s arms to try to bring warmth back into his shivering body.

“Shhh. You’re ok Jongin. You’re ok, my love. I’m here. I’m here.” He cups his husband’s face and kisses him passionately.

“Kyungsoo,” Jongin rasps, reciprocating the kiss. He starts to laugh, the adrenaline needing a way to escape. Kyungsoo smiles, his heart shaped lips stretching in happiness and relief. They both laugh, giddy at the triumph over near death.

Jongin connects his forehead with Kyungsoo’s, staring intently. “I love you,” he whispers. “I love you so much.”

Kyungsoo looks at his husband’s face, committing the moment to memory. The solemness on Jongin’s face, in his eyes, in his words making his heart sing. He grips onto Jongin, cupping his neck. “I love you too.”

The couple embraces, warmth beginning to seep through their wet clothing. Kyungsoo lets out a shaky breath, tears rising to his eyes. “Don’t leave me please. Don’t go anymore Jongin. I can’t be without you. You left me this morning without saying goodbye.”

“Shhhhh.” Jongin rubs Kyungsoo’s back. “I’ll never leave you, love. Never again. I love you. More than anything.“ He maneuvers them so that Kyungsoo’s back is pressed to Jongin’s chest, stretching out their legs the full extent of the boat. He wraps the blanket around his back and over Kyungsoo’s front, protecting them against the chill of the morning air.

Kyungsoo entwines their fingers. “Why did you leave me there? Why didn’t you wake me up?”

Jongin presses a kiss to his head. “You looked so peaceful. I didn’t want you to cry anymore. You know I hate it when you’re sad. I couldn’t take it again. Not after last night.”

“But Jongin what if you had died? I wouldn’t have been able to say at least one more goodbye. The last memory you would’ve had was me ugly crying until we fell asleep.” Jongin snorts as his husband shivers.

“Soo, we made love before that. I mean that was still pretty fresh in my mind.” Kyungsoo clicks his tongue, in disapproval, as he lightly shoves him. He pulls Jongin’s arms tighter over his chest. After a beat of silence, Kyungsoo cranes his neck to look at him.

“Thank you for not dying on me.” Jongin bursts out laughing, chest heaving, at the mock seriousness in his face. Love and fondness spread through Kyungsoo’s heart. He thought he’d never hear that laugh again.

Jongin bends over to press a big, wet kiss on his cheek. “Of course Kyungsoo. You know I’ll always make my way back to you. Not matter what happens now or in the future. I’ll always be there. I’ll always be in here.“ Jongin spreads his large hand over Kyungsoo’s chest, feeling his heart beat strongly. Kyungsoo smiles.

Peace envelopes the couple, softly swaying in the water, lulling them in a warm blanket of comfort and love. They spend the rest of the day there. The sun comes out of hiding to dry their clothes and hair. They talk about everything and nothing. They watch as the afternoon light turns into the evening sunset. Clouds illuminated in pinks and purples.

Kyungsoo’s eyes begin to droop in fatigue, the stress of his emotions catching up to him. Jongin watches his mind slowly drift away into slumber. “Nini I’m sleepy.” Kyungsoo yawns as he makes himself comfortable. “Can we go home?”

Jongin runs his fingers through Kyungsoo’s dark locks. “Yea baby. We can go home. You can take a small nap. I’ll wake you up when it’s time to go ok?”

He smiles softly at the small snore Kyungsoo lets out, as he finally falls asleep. He watches him for awhile, grateful for having someone like Kyungsoo love him. The memories of their life together flit through his mind. He props Kyungsoo’s head onto the low bench, so he can sit aside him.

He bends over to press a loving kiss onto his forehead. “Thank you Do Kyungsoo. For this life. For your love. I’ll be waiting for you. Don’t take too long.”

Jongin eases over the side of the boat and into the lake. The seven Stars light up the indigo sky, as Jongin pushes the boat toward shore and he slips away into the dark.
