Work Text:
A quiet sigh left the black-haired food soul.
How many days has it been since he had been condemned to the torturous prison of Tartarus?
The distant thought made his eyebrows furrow, his fist appear slightly paler as it clenched. His head snapped upwards and he quickly shook his head, trying to steer those infuriatingly malicious thoughts out of his head. Haggis never liked being upset, it was a horrible feeling. The best thing he could do was hold onto hope, and continue to cling to the last shred of happiness he had no matter what would happen.
That’s what the red-haired sir would’ve wanted him to do.
That’s what his teacher would’ve wanted him to do.
And… that is what Sc--
A loud clanking sound of metal against metal echoed loudly through the empty halls. At first, the sound would always make Haggis jump in place, but he had grown accustomed to the grating cold sound. He wondered if his fellow prisoner was still scared by it!
Haggis quickly walked over to the bars of his cell, Azazel following closely after making a quiet ‘grr’ing sound. Icey blue eyes held a small glint of child-like interest while they looked over at the entrance of the hallway. From the darkness of the door, Canned Sardines walked out, his face looking as stoic and boring as ever. Still, the prison warden had been much nicer to him ever since he got stabbed so Haggis was never too sad around Sardines anymore. However it was the person behind him that had caught Haggis’s eye, so much so that a big smile came across his face and he quickly began to call for said person.
“SCONE! SCONE! sCONEYY!! Over here! Hi!! Hi hi hi!”
The red-eyed food soul immediately looked up to meet Haggis’s excited expression and a small smile melted onto the blonde’s unmoving expression. Scone’s pace began to slightly pick up, eager to see the blue-eyed soul once again despite Canned Sardine’s quick cautionary warning.
Haggis on the other hand really wanted to get closer to Scone, the bars were deterring any progress he could possibly have.
Azazel began to whine quietly when it saw its owner trying to fight against the bars for about the fiftieth time this week. Haggis outstretched an arm, holding his hand wide out as if that would do anything to move the jail cell. Still, he couldn’t help it. How could he not outstretch his hand to his only friend besides his teacher? The one person who had helped him?
It was a pretty pitiful sight on Scone’s end, but it was also heartbreaking. The blonde stopped in front of Haggis, eyes slowly looking down at the hand outstretched to him. He was never the affectionate type, however, the sight of Haggis fully pouting with his face squished against the bars made his cold heart twist in ways he had never felt. Scone sighed quietly, walking closer and gently brushing his fingertips against the cold hand outstretched to him.
Eventually, his hand wrapped around Haggis’s while bringing it close to his chest.
“It’s okay. Hello Haggis.”
The blue-eyed food soul stopped his struggling immediately. That voice. It was so comforting to him. This touch. It wasn’t the warmest but compared to Haggis’s freezing temperature? It was everything to him. Haggis would never say it out loud, but Scone’s eyes reminded him of his own teacher’s. All of these things brought comfort to him and, comfort was something he was lucky to even have in his life.
His hand in Scone’s was the only thing he focused on, even when Scone himself had come into the cell. No thoughts of escaping, or the cold, or even Tartarus occupied his mind. He simply let himself go, resting against the other food soul with a happy smile on his face.
Safe and Sound.
Safe and warm.
This person wouldn't hurt him, not as everyone else had.
Yes, Haggis had to keep that hope close to him.
