Trinity stirred slightly, woken from her light sleep by Neo’s fingertips tracing the planes of her face. As much as she cherished sleep, she enjoyed his inability to control himself around her, his need to reach for her and touch her to make sure she was really there; it brought her just as much relief as it did for him.
Since their extraction, her biggest fear was that she’d lose him again, that she’d be torn away from him and forced to forget him and them, them and him, left utterly helpless and lost in the lives they’d never chosen, missing something that was just out of reach. The very thought was enough to send her spiralling, but the sound of Neo’s soft breathing and the gentleness of his touch brought her back.
“You should be sleeping,” she said with a hushed whisper, voice laced with sleep. She inched into Neo’s open arms, tucking her head under his chin.
“I know. I couldn’t.”
Trinity nodded. It wouldn’t be the first time Neo had trouble sleeping, and she’d be lying if she said she didn’t have the same problem. Any rest she’d gotten felt superficial; she couldn’t fall into a deep sleep, too aware of her surroundings and the sounds that seemed to echo off the cave walls of IO.
She reached down, lacing her fingers with his and relished in warmth of his broad hand around hers, then gave him a gentle squeeze.
“I’m here. I’m not going anywhere. I promise.”
“I know,” he whispered, unable to hide the fear in his voice. “I know. I’m just scared I’m going to lose you again.”
They’d had this conversation many times now, each time ending with one or both of them in tears, but this time Trinity wanted–no, needed–this time to be different.
Her free hand cupped his jaw loosely and ran her thumb over the jut of his cheekbone, guiding him to look at her before pulling him in to place gentle kisses along his cheek then to the corners of his plush lips.
“I missed you,” he breathed. “Even when I didn’t know it was you that I was missing.”
Neo always knew what to say to take her breath away.
“I missed you, too. I missed us. I missed this,” Trinity asserted, punctuating each sentence with a squeeze of Neo’s hand and a kiss.
She kissed him slowly at first, exploratory, as though she was asking for permission. They hadn’t been intimate since her extraction, both knowing her body couldn’t take it. Neo wouldn’t allow it until she was ready, as much as she knew he wanted to. But she was ready now.
She needed him to alleviate the dull ache within her, built up over years of dissatisfaction and anger. She needed to feel him deep inside, to rekindle what had always been between them. She desperately wanted to feel overwhelmed by love and passion, by their desire for each other, and by the overpowering need to love and be loved.
She needed him to make her both remember and forget.
Trinity shifted in Neo’s arms and pulled his hips flush against her own, lips curling upwards when she felt his growing erection against her thigh. It was a welcomed feeling, the sensation serving as evidence of his own want and need for her. Neo ran a hand down her arm and rested it on her side, leaving a trail of heat in its wake. Before Trinity could react to his touch, Neo stiffened and pulled away.
“Neo? What is it? What’s wrong?”
“It’s just…I don’t want to do anything you don’t want to do.”
Taken aback, Trinity searched his eyes for an answer. She’d been the one to initiate - of course she wanted it. Sensing her confusion, Neo spoke again, his voice barely a whisper.
“I just…I don’t want to hurt you.”
Neo averted his eyes and only met hers again when Trinity brought his hand to her heart. She held it there firmly, hoping Neo felt the steady beat as strongly as she did, hoping it was enough to reassure him that she wasn’t planning on disappearing any time soon.
“Neo,” she whispered hotly, guiding his hand lower to knead her breast.
“I want this. I’m ready for this. I need this. So do you.”
Neo stared at her, his eyes wide and impossibly soft as he held her gaze, his breath shuddering a little as he took her in. He nodded before finally giving in and crashing his mouth against hers, clearly reassured by the desire in her voice. Trinity yelped in surprise but quickly returned the desperation, a gentle whimper of satisfaction escaping her when she tasted the familiar salt and sweetness of his lips that was quintessentially him. Her tongue swept his lower lip before making its way into his mouth, swirling alongside his as she mapped the familiar territory.
They helped each other undress quickly, allowing their hands to explore the different yet familiar slopes and valleys of their bodies, claiming it for their own, and it wasn’t long until Neo had Trinity on her back. She watched him watching her, his chest heaving, eyes dark with desire as she writhed in anticipation. The intensity of her need for him was so overwhelming that she found herself whimpering, her insides aching as she waited for him to enter her.
The relief she felt when he finally did was even more overwhelming. Inch by tortuous inch, he slipped through her folds and Trinity whimpered at the delicious stretch of her walls around him. By the time he was six inches deep, she could hardly breathe.
“Please, Neo,” she whined insistently, her voice needy and lustful. “Don’t hold back. Please.”
With a grunt, Neo complied. He held her tightly as he slowly increased his depth and tempo until she clawed at his biceps, undoubtedly leaving bright red streaks in their place. She felt so deliciously full, so wholly complete, that she hadn’t noticed the tears streaming down her face until Neo kissed and brushed them away.
“It’s okay, Trinity. I’ve got you.”
Neo’s lips dragged from her cheek to her jaw, following the curve of her throat until he nestled his face into the crest of her neck and shoulder. Trinity pulled him in tighter, needy fingers digging into his shoulders. Her legs wrapped around him, digging her heels into the small of his back. Even being this close wasn’t close enough; he could touch every inch of her, but it still wouldn’t be enough, though she knew he’d devote himself to touching her forever if she asked him to.
A few more snaps of Neo’s hips and Trinity could tell he was close and doing everything in his power to hold on until she came first. The thought alone was usually enough to send her over the edge. He was doing everything right. He touched her lovingly, bathed her in kisses, and hit the spongy tissue inside her at just the right angle with each thrust–it wasn’t enough.
Teetering between pleasure and frustration, Trinity tried to focus on the feeling of Neo buried inside her, the wet heat between her legs, and the slick sensation of his skin on hers–it wasn’t until he growled in her ear, voice gruff yet so soft in her ear:
“Come for me, Trin. I know you can. Show me how good I make you feel.”
In an instant, Trinity felt a jolt of white-hot pleasure shoot through her body. Long since atrophied muscles roaring to life as though struck by lightning, her entire body thrumming as Neo cried out her name and came with her. Their bodies moved in tandem as if they were one, riding out wave after crashing wave, clinging to each other as if the other would slip away through their fingers, both knowing neither would let that happen. Not again.
—
Trinity curled into Neo’s arms, his chest pressing and sticking to her back as he kissed her shoulder absentmindedly. For the first time in decades, Trinity felt truly like herself again. She knew she wanted him, but she’d underestimated the impact intimacy would have on her.
Their love and passion were the missing pieces, the final step of truly convincing her that this was real, that the machines hadn’t taken everything away from them. Despite everything they’d been through, she was still Trinity, and he was still Neo. They were in love–together, they were unstoppable.
Neo’s breath slowed as he pulled Trinity tighter in his arms, locking her in safe for the night. ‘Snug as a bug in a rug,’ as he used to say.
She nestled in closer, pleased with the content rumble her movement evoked. Neo’s arms wrapped tightly around her, drawing her in closer as they tangled their legs under the sheets. Trinity listened to the sound of his steady breathing, focusing on the deepness of his breaths as she relaxed into his embrace. For the first time in a long time, she felt completely and totally safe, enveloped in Neo’s arms.
Her eyes grew heavy. No longer able to fight exhaustion, Trinity welcomed the sleep that had evaded her for decades.
