Chapter Text

You and your younger brother open the door to Family Video, the chime of the door alerting the employees of your presence. One employee of which you recognize. Robin Buckley. The girl you have been crushing on since you moved to Hawkins.

You freeze in the doorway staring at her. ‘God she’s so cute.’

A clearing of a throat behind you breaks you out of your gay trance. Your brother follows your gaze and he gasps, “Oh, is that Robin, you know, the girl you go on and on about?” He laughs as your face flushed five shades of red. “I’ll take that as a yes.”

You quickly glance up to see if she heard what your dingus brother said, and prayed to the gods she didn’t, but a slight flush on her says otherwise. “I’m going to kill you” you whispered to your brother.

“you’ll thank me later.” He said just as quietly.

Steve walks out from the back carrying a box he promptly sets down when he sees your brother. “Woods!” He exclaims, the two of them exchanging a drawn out handshake.

“You really can’t stop adopting kids can’t you?” Robin snickered. You giggled while Steve gave her a lighthearted glare as he continued, “What brings you here this fine Friday night?”

“Actually,” your brother, Jack, starts, “My sister, Liv, here” he winked at you, “was checking out Ro-“

You slap your hand over his mouth ignoring the odd look he and Steve gave you. Your blush returning full scale, with your free hand you grab a random movie off the shelf. “This,” you stress, “ we were checking out this.” You hold up the movie placing it on the counter. Steve and Jack silently laughed at your endeavor, while Robin flushed.

“Oh,” She mutters, “Children of Paradise, its one of my favorites. I think you will like it, not that you have to, enjoy it I mean…” Robin trails off while you just smile at her ramblings. “You’re, uh, Olivia Woods right? We have English class together.”

You nod your head in an attempt to stop staring, “Yeah. We just moved into town.” You wring you hands together nervously.

“Jack said you guys were from California, right?” Steve asked going through the box from storage. “What brings you to Hawkins?” He attempts small talk.

Robin leans forward curious to know your answer as she rings up the movie, but the silence from both siblings in front of her makes her freeze.

You clear your throat banishing the foreboding emotion. “Sorry. We, uh, needed a change a scenery.” You look away, avoiding any eye contact as you grip your arm where your scars lie.

“yeah scenery.” Your brother murmured. Trying to loosen your grip on yourself by grabbing your hand.

Just then a group of kids ran in, some you recognize as your brother’s friends.

“Jack! You ready to head over to the hellfire club?” a kid missing teeth questioned, giving jack the same handshake as Steve. “Eddie is really worked up about this campaign.”

“Remind me why we had to meet you here again?” Another kid, which dark shaggy hair asked.

Jack looks up at you with a wry smile. “Matchmaking!” He laughs. You punch his arm face flushing yet again. “Shit bird.”

“Well are we leaving or not?” the first kid asks. Jack looks up to you with pleading eyes. Damn those puppy dog eyes. “Go on dingus.” He smiles wide and rushes out the store with his friends, but not before bowing dramatically.

“At least one of us is making friends.” You mutter. Turning to Robin you pay for the movie sparing her one last glance before you leave, a blush still painting your cheeks.

___

Robin was stunned as she watched you leave Family Video. She barely said anything other than her rambling which most people find annoying, but not you. She is broken out of her reverie by Steve who elbowed her. “She likes boobies.”

“Steve!”

“Oh come on. I saw how she looked at you.”

“Oh please,” Robin sighed as she began to tidy up the counter. Her thoughts drifted to you while doing so, how you hazel eyes sparkled when you laughed, how you nervously fiddled with your hands, how cute you looked when you blushed. She didn’t realize she was smiling until Steve continued.

“…And I saw how you looked at her.” He laughed as Robin nearly choked.

“What? And how did I look at her?”

“Like she is the most adorable thing in the world” He grinned like the cat that got the cream as she blushed harder.

“Shut up!” she elbowed him.

“Well you asked.” He protested.

___

Later that night you could not stop thinking about Robin as you laid in bed. God’s you really embarrassed yourself in front of her. She probably doesn’t even like girls, or even like you for that matter. She never talked to you before now, well, no one had. At school your just the weird new kid with a ‘mysterious’ background. Where your brother succeeded in making friends just as weird as him, you distanced yourself, always wearing long sleeves to hide the many scars from your father.

A knock on your bedroom door, well as much as a bedroom in a trailer could be, broke you out of your self depreciation. Jack opened the door and looked at you with pleading eyes. Twice in one day. Damn puppy eyes.

You moves to the edge of your bed inviting him. “Come on dingus.” He dived into the bed stealing the majority of your blanket, but you didn’t bother scold him. “Nightmares?” you asked. He nodded while snuggling deeper into the pillows. “Do you want to talk about it?” you prompted. He just shook his head and fell back asleep.

How the hell does he do that? You wondered.
He was still haunted by what happened in California, hell you were too. Your father nearly killed you when he found out about your sexuality.

You let your thoughts wander away from him and back to Robin, and how Jack almost outed you to your crush. Your last thoughts as you drifted off were how soft her lips looked.
