Wu Xie chuckles as he reads that the first thing in the morning. An invitation to his high-school reunion. It has been ten years, if he is not mistaken. A few gatherings were conducted before Wu Xie was too busy, avoiding, so he couldn't attend. But seeing this time marked the tenth year after leaving high school might as well attend it.

A beep from Wu Xie's phone stops him from venturing into his buried deep memories. He huffs another chuckle when he reads the text.

'Are you going?'

That's odd of Xie Yuchen to ask him.

'Hm. I guess so.'

No reply. Wu Xie rolls his eyes before opening his emails and starting his work for the day.

Thinking about the past makes Wu Xie melancholic. His grandparents raised him in the village instead of the city his parents worked in. They had to hand him over since the expenses were too much for two people, what more for three. Little Wu Xie didn't understand much, but he gladly stayed with his grandparents.

His grandpa owned an antique store in the village, and many people came by to buy the goods. Wu Xie remembered greeting every customer with much enthusiasm that some of them brought him candy the next time they visited the shop. He spent all of his childhood there until he graduated high school. Only then did he move to the city to pursue his study.

The meeting is going on while Wu Xie scribbles a note on his notepad. He also has his sketch next to him, so he immediately strokes any necessary addition. Wu Xie has been working there for about four years now. The work environment is fine and everyone is cool. The boss doesn't really care about their attendance or break time as long as everyone gets the work done. Wu Xie likes how flexible it is.

'Wu Xie. You can submit the draft later and work on the next sketch.'

'Alright. I will.'

The meeting adjourned, and most workers made their way to lunch. Wu Xie stays for a while at his table after submitting the draft; his eyes cannot move away from the invitation. His lips curl into a small smile, and he shakes his head, succumbing to the records playing in his mind.

'Xiao Xie! Won't you wake up! Aiyya. It's the first day of school, and you're already late!'

Wu Xie grumbled, burying his face into the pillow. He squeezed his eyes as the light poked through the window illuminating his room. He knew he was running late, but this was not the first time. He'd like to keep his record consistent.

'Xiao Xie! For god sake. Wake up!!'

Wu Xie whined at the piercing howl from his grandmother. Wu Xie thought as an old lady; she really had an impressive energy.

'Yes, nainai! I'm awake!!'

Wu Xie let his eyes close again.

'WU XIE!!!'

Wu Xie sips the hot cappuccino and looks at Pangzi, his co-worker.

'Tianzhen. What are you thinking about?'

Wu Xie shakes his head. 'I just got an invitation to a high school reunion.'

Pangzi laughs upon hearing that. 'What are you so depressed about? You never went to one?'

Wu Xie shakes his head again.

'Woah. That's unexpected. Tianzhen, deeming from what I see, I think you're quite famous in high school.'

Wu Xie cannot hold back his laugh.

Wu Xie dragged the bicycle with him while glancing around. He leaned it against the electric pole before looking at the wall in front of him. This was his gate to school. He's sure no teacher or prefect was around since it's the first day of school. They were having an assembly.

Wu Xie's lips stretched into a cheeky grin while he rubbed his palms together. The weather was quite cold. Wasting no time, he threw his bag over and climbed the wall.

Wu Xie stumbled a little as he landed but immediately balanced himself. He smirked, proud of his capability. He grabbed the bag before peering over where the assembly was being held. He could sneak in. Before he could take another step, his name was being hollered.

Wu Xie rubbed the back of his head, standing next to the table of his homeroom teacher, Mr Lim. The older man took another glance at Wu Xie before sighing.

'Wu Xie. You.' He closed his eyes for a second, feeling his blood pressure rose.

'You're already in your senior year. You're going to take the college entrance exam this year. Can you please get it together?'

Wu Xie rubbed his shoe against the floor, pouting.

'Fine. Since today is the first day, I'll let you go. Next time, you'll get demerit from me.'

Wu Xie perked up, saluting his teacher. 'Yes, sir!'

The old male sighed again before shooing Wu Xie away.

The classroom was noisy, although it was a self-study period. Only a few students took the time seriously to study. Wu Xie smirked when he entered the classroom through the backdoor and walked to his friend in delight.

'Xiao Hua.' The said man closed his eyes, ignoring the presence beside him, before continuing his study. Wu Xie huffed before kicking the leg of the chair.

'Xiao Huaaaa. Don't you miss me?'

Xie Yuchen was Wu Xie's friend, best friend, although he former never admitted so. They had been friends since Wu Xie started to stay in the village.

'You got in trouble again, Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie took a seat behind his desk, next to Xie Yuchen.  'What? It had always been like this. I need to make history in this school.'

Xie Yuchen shook his head, unsure what to do with his childhood friend. Wu Xie's smart. Xie Yuchen didn't understand why the male made waste of his talent.

'Wu Xie. We have an entrance exam-'

'Yes, Xiao Hua. Yes. You need to study for it. I know.'

Wu Xie grinned and laid his head down on the textbook. Xie Yuchen held back the urge to poke Wu Xie's head with the pen.

Wu Xie stretches his arms while groaning after entering his studio apartment. Having a job is nice, but Wu Xie really misses his youth when he was still pure and innocent, but life has taught him a lot.

Teenager Wu Xie never wanted to be a delinquent. Perhaps his parents' divorce had taken a toll on him. He barely saw them that he could count with his fingers the number of their visit.

One day, his parents came. Of course, Wu Xie was over the moon when he saw them, but he immediately noticed something was different. His parents were not looking at each other while giving him a sullen smile.

'Mama. Papa. Why... you... you guys didn't tell me that you're coming!'

Wu Xie hugged his mother immediately. The warmth of his mother that he always sought. He smiled at his father when he felt the pats on his back.

'Let's get in first.'

Once they had settled in the living room, his parents spilt it without dilly dally.

'Wu Xie. We are not together anymore.'

His forehead wrinkled to a frown while his mind was processing the sentence.

'Xiao Xie. We got divorced.'

'What?!' His doe eyes stung when tears brimmed. 'Why... how could you never tell me?! You can't come and just tell me this! Am I not your child?! I deserve to know. You..'

'I'm sorry, darling. It happened too fast.'

Too fast? They never had time for him.

'So now.. We want you to decide if you want to live with your mother or me?'

Wu Xie erupted into a laugh. 'You suddenly remember you have a son? I'm staying here. I'm not going anywhere!!'

'Wu Xie! Your nainai and yeye are old and they-'

'At least they wanted me!! Not like you two!!'

That was why he lived with his grandmother throughout his teenage and became a delinquent.

Wu Xie switches off the lamp and gets on the bed. He grabs his phone and rereads the invitation. What is he expecting if he keeps rereading the invitation?

It'll be held in three days. Wu Xie is unsure how to dress up since Xin Yue Hotel is a three-star hotel.

Fuck. No way he's going to buy a suit just for the sake of the reunion. Wu Xie huff, putting his phone away, then falls into a deep slumber.

The sound from the rustling train snaps Wu Xie out of his thought. After two days of receiving the invitation, his mind is all over the place. It's pretty ridiculous how an invitation messed him up. Maybe walking down memory lane is not a good plan.

Tomorrow is the event, and Wu Xie still has nothing to wear. He asks Pangzi what to wear but the male is not that helpful.

Wearing anything might give a wrong impression. What if everyone is dressing fancy since they have a good job? What if they mock him when he shows up with a non-famous brand of suit? What if?

'Wu Xie.' Wu Xie jolted out of sleep, mouth agape while eyes narrowed. Xie Yuchen had to cover his face out of embarrassment no matter how often this happened.

The mathematics teacher sighed. 'If you don't want to learn, then don't come to school!'

Wu Xie yawned softly. 'Can I go home then?'

'Wu Xie!!' Wu Xie grinned sheepishly, pulling out his textbook anyway.

The students rushed to the canteen, grabbing the tray before lining up to buy food. Wu Xie was one of them, with Xie Yuchen tagging along with him. The latter glanced at Wu Xie before sighing hopelessly.

'What!'

'I'm gonna tell your grandma.'

'Nuuu! Come on, Xiao Hua.'

Xie Yuchen sighed again. 'What do you want?'

Wu Xie quickly pointed to the drumstick. Xie Yuchen was nice enough to use his card to pay for Wu Xie's food. Not that Wu Xie didn't have money on his card but refused to spend it since it was from his parents. He was better starved than using the money, he exclaimed.

The class ended with loud cheers, and before Wu Xie could dash out, he just realised he was summoned to the discipline teacher's office. Xie Yuchen also gave him a look, demanding him to go with stern eyes. Wu Xie huffed and walked to the office instead of his bicycle parked at the back gate.

Sweet perfume fills the apartment as the luxurious bottle is put down. The curtain is flailing as the owner again forgets to close the balcony sliding door. Wu Xie brushes his white dress, taking a deep breath as he slides into the midnight blue dinner jacket. Yes, he bought himself a suit for the sake of the reunion. He keeps his hair neat, although Pangzi always comments on how fluffy it looks, which doesn't make any sense. Wu Xie's contemplating between the round glasses or the contact lenses sitting on the table. He nibbles his lower lip and then grabs the glasses. Better be safe than sorry.

The journey to the hotel is smooth, as if God wants to make things easy for him. As he remembers, he was always stuck on this road. Xie Yuchen has arrived there first, making Wu Xie groan over the phone. It just feels odd to meet them again after ten years. Funny enough, he never saw or bumped against any of them once he moved to Beijing.

Once the hotel comes into view, Wu Xie gulps and prays for the best.

Wu Xie takes a wary step into the lobby. There are bellhop and security guards, scary, if he may add, at the front door. He wastes no time at the reception and gets his way to the grand Hall. Wu Xie rechecks his attire, muttering a mantra, 'It's okay, it's fine' before entering.

Once the golden door opens, the sound of chatter and loud laughter fill the air. Wu Xie cannot help but smile. Before he can take another step further, someone already greets him.

'Wu Xie! You're Wu Xie, right?'

Wu Xie laughs softly. Of course, he recognises this man—one of his classmates.  'Yes, it's me. Do you forget about me already?'

'Aiyya! You didn't come to the past reunion. Thank God we still know you.'

Wu Xie lets the man lead him to the round table where Xie Yuchen is. He gives the latter a small smile and joins them for the night.

'Wow. This is surreal to have all of us tonight. You have grown up, huh, Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie rolls his eyes, swirling the champagne in his glass.  'You are the one who has grown up. I remember you always have your nose in the books, huh.'

The others laugh while the referred man is unfazed. It is true anyway.

'Where are you working now?'

'Just at the small company.'

More questions and answers are exchanged.

The chitter-chatter keeps going on. There are too many topics to follow. Wu Xie joins the conversation, answering and questioning.

Typical Wu Xie was still late. He tried to wake up early, really. As usual, he parked his bicycle and then glanced around. The reason he didn't take the front gate? He didn't want to deal with the snobbish prefect. Wu Xie huffed at that thought before throwing his bag over the wall and climbing it.

As he thought his landing would be smooth this time, it was all wrong.

Wu Xie gasped as he fell onto something, someone-

He's too shocked to move. His face was buried against the sturdy chest- thank God it's not a woman. Oddly the man beneath him also didn't move, but Wu Xie could hear his heartbeat. From the cloth, he could see that this person might not be his teacher. He slowly lifted his head after gathering his courage. Wu Xie blinked when he saw the unknown boy in front of him.

Oh, how the dark eyes sent shivers through his spine. He gulped and stood up quickly.

'I'm sorry! Uh.. I'm really sorry. Are you okay? Usually, no one is here so I never fall onto someone or anything. So-'

The other male stood up, refusing the hand Wu Xie offered, still not saying anything. Wu Xie tilted his head, confused.

'Uh. Well. Are you lost...Xiaoge?' That seemed the right thing to address the male. He's definitely not a new teacher seeing the uniform he's wearing. Didn't look like any uniform in the town. Did he get hurt that bad that he forgot his name? The fall was quite rough. Wu Xie looked at the male in concern.

'Are you really okay, Xiaoge? I.. it must hurt..'

The other male brushed the dust off his pants, glancing at the man in front of him.

'Where's the principal office?'

Finally, he spoke! Wu Xie seriously thought the male was mute. He sighed in relief, at least he didn't kill anyone.

'I'll show you the way. I'm Wu Xie! What's your name?'

Wu Xie pouted when the other male said nothing. He couldn't help but scoff. He's sure this man is from another city.

The visit to the principal office ended with him being nagged. Wu Xie wanted to blame the 'Xiaoge', but the male was clueless, so he couldn't blame him.

Wu Xie grumbled when he got into the class. Again, Xie Yuchen sighed before focusing on the book again. He ignored the pout and droopy eyes of Wu Xie. Something definitely happened.

'I got a demerit.'

Xie Yuchen didn't want to ask what happened. 'I'm surprised.'

Wu Xie twitched his nose at the sarcastic remark, 'I was just helping that Xiaoge! Then..ugh. Never mind.'

Xie Yuchen's eyebrows furrowed. Xiaoge? Who was this Xiaoge? Did Wu Xie meet any stranger and get himself in trouble?  'Who's Xiaoge?'

'Oh. Well. The kid that I kind of jump or fall onto. He's a new kid that got lost. I can't believe he ended up at the back gate. Anyway, I think he's from private school since he has that fancy suit while we..' Wu Xie eyed themselves up and down, referring to their red and white uniform.

'Hm. Okay.'

'Just okay?? Xiao Hua, you-'

The students fell silent as the door opened revealing their homeroom teacher and a new student. Wu Xie's wide eyes widened when he saw the boy beside his teacher.

'Xiaoge!' Wu Xie whispered to himself rather loudly, making everyone looked him. He grinned sheepishly as Xiaoge's dark eyes pierced him.

The teacher sighed, already informed what had happened. 'Anyway, we have a new student today. Mind that he's older than you. Please introduce yourself.'

'I'm Zhang Qiling.' Oh, his voice sounded husky yet soft.

'That's all?'

Zhang Qiling nodded.

'Alright then. Let's see... There's an empty desk behind Xie Yuchen. You may sit there.'

Zhang Qiling didn't say much but moved to the spot. Wu Xie immediately turned around to face Xiaoge once the latter settled at his seat.

'Hello! I hope you remember. I think you remember me since we met and the teacher also nagged me. I'm sorry you have to hear that. Zhang Qiling, right? How old are you?'

Xie Yuchen kicked Wu Xie's chair to stop the male from terrorising Zhang Qiling. Zhang Qiling was also not saying anything.

'Nineteen.'

'Oh! You're two years older than us then.' Wu Xie beamed, and the sunshine made his brown orbs sparkle. Zhang Qiling definitely was not affected.

'Do you prefer Zhang Qiling or Xiaoge?'

No answer. Wu Xie was about to whine, but he held it. 'Fine. I'll call you Xiaoge.'

The bell rang for recess then Wu Xie turned around again to look at Xiaoge. The male was unfazed by the action, which amazed Wu Xie.

'Aren't you scared of me? You're so weird, Xiaoge. Let's eat! Do you already have the card? If not, you can use mine. I'll buy anything you want.'

Xie Yuchen's eyes narrowed, glaring at his friend. 'Wu Xie. What did you say?'

'What.. what?'

'You never use your card, and suddenly you want to buy food for him?'

'Well. There's nothing wrong with it. It's my money. ....Oh. I can treat you too.'

While the two students bantered, Zhang Qiling quietly made his way to the canteen.

The school ended and Wu Xie had to round the school to get his bike. Perhaps he should use the front gate next time. He yawned into his uniform paw and grabbed his bicycle. He proceeded to ride it home but stopped when he saw Zhang Qiling standing alone.

Being the good classmate he was, he walked to the male quickly. 'Xiaoge!'

Zhang Qiling spared him a glance, then shifted his gaze away.

'How are you going home? Where do you live? Do you want to-'

Wu Xie blinked when a fancy black car pulled over. Zhang Qiling took another glimpse before getting into the car. Wu Xie was still processing what he was seeing but waved afterwards.

More wine and champagne are served. The sound of glasses clinking and the laughter sounds louder than Wu Xie first stepped in. Wu Xie politely accepts a few and eats some of the finger food.

'I heard you graduated from UN University, Wu Xie.'

'Huh? Really?!'

'Tsk. I know you were a scam.'

Wu Xie tsk. 'What? Do you think a troublemaker like me is stupid?'

'Wu Xie. You got ten for mathematics subject.'

Wu Xie huffs when the blush paints his cheeks rosy.

Three months into the semester, it's time to test the students. Wu Xie was nonchalant. He didn't have time to study since he spent the night playing video games. His yeye had to keep them away from him. That finally made him open a book and study.

Well, he wanted to pass the subjects. He could do well in Chinese and English language. He could get fifty for science, but the real problem was mathematics.

'Wu Xie. You want to major in architecture but look at your result!' Teacher Lim sighed deeply. He had no idea how to make Wu Xie more interested in studying.

'I know you can do better, Wu Xie. Just make a small effort then you can do it. Really.' He knew Wu Xie's smart.

Wu Xie's pouting, again, while rubbing the tip of his shoe on the floor.

'You don't want to go to scram school. Then what can we do? Do you think I'm free to tutor-' An idea popped in the teacher's head as soon as he saw another student of his come in.

'Zhang Qiling! Come here.'

Wu Xie turned to look at the male before smiling. His friendship with Xiaoge was unexplainable. The male didn't talk much but let Wu Xie follow him around and sometimes bought Wu Xie food. He felt happy since Zhang Qiling was nice to him only. He didn't even look at the girls who were fawning over him. Somehow that made Wu Xie's heart flutter.

Zhang Qiling stood next to the younger male as his eyes fell on Wu Xie's result.

Ten marks for mathematics. What did Wu Xie learn through high school?

'Well. I think you two are close enough. So, what do you think about tutoring Wu Xie, Zhang Qiling?'

The brown orbs widened before they met the dark ones. Something flickered in the black pearl orbs that Wu Xie couldn't read.

'Huh? Aih. Teacher Lim! Don't bully Xiaoge like this. He-'

'Sure.'

Wu Xie's mouth opened and then closed. That was unexpected. Xiaoge never interacted that much with Wu Xie but now teaching him. He's afraid it'd be hard on Zhang Qiling rather than himself.

'Hm. Teacher. You see, Xiaoge..'

'I can do it.'

The teacher sighed in relief. The burden was lifted off his shoulder.

They started the tutor that very evening. Wu Xie gave his puppy eyes to the older man but got ignored instead. They used the classroom for now, but they had to find a new place the next time.

Wu Xie turned his chair and sat facing Zhang Qiling. The latter grabbed Wu Xie's paper, making Wu Xie flabbergasted. He's flustered to get his low mark exposed to Zhang Qiling.

Zhang Qiling flipped another page to analyse which part Wu Xie's weak in.

'We will work on this paper first.'

Wu Xie pouted but nodded anyway. He took his paper back, staring at the questions he failed to answer.

'Xiaoge. For this question, I don't understand what they want. There's a lot of x variable, but they want me to find one x?'

Right then, Zhang Qiling knew this would be a long day.

'Xiaoge. Can we study at my house? My grandpa won't be home, so I don't want to leave my grandma alone. Is that okay with you?'

Zhang Qiling nodded. Wu Xie snickered, shaking his head. At least Zhang Qiling uttered more sentences when tutoring him.

'Can you walk? Or do you want to ride the bike? You can sit at the back?'

'Let's walk.'

Wu Xie smiled, heading to the front gate with the older man. Yes, he finally accepted the fate of entering the school through the front entrance.

The road led to Wushanju seemed quieter than usual. Wu Xie kept glancing at the male beside him. Zhang Qiling looked good in the uniform, but something didn't complete him. Maybe he saw Zhang Qiling in another uniform during his first day.

'Xiaoge. If you don't mind me asking, where do you live? There's always a fancy car taking you home. Why do you transfer to this school? You don't live here, right?'

A look from Zhang Qiling made Wu Xie shut his mouth, but the latter missed the fondness in the dark eyes. But Zhang Qiling didn't know where to start to answer the questions. Wu Xie loved bombarding him with questions. Either during tutor or recess or... basically every moment.

'I live in the town. Not far from here. I used to live in Beijing. I transfer to this school because I want to.'

Wu Xie nodded. 'But why didn't you go to the private school in the town? I mean, from what I saw you were wearing like fancy uniform with the suit and everything on the first day.'

'I don't want to.'

Wu Xie hummed, there's a lot more to ask, but he kept it for later.

'Nainai! I'm home! I bring a friend home!'

Wu Xie shouted when he pushed the wooden door revealing the vast courtyard. Zhang Qiling glanced around quietly. He had never seen a house like this. Long corridors connected different buildings. He admired the tint of traditional structure. Just then, an old lady walked toward him.

'Aiyya! Why didn't you tell me earlier, Xiao Xie?. I don't have anything to serve. There's only fruit.'

'It's okay, Mrs Wu.'

The old lady laughed softly, patting Zhang Qiling's cheek.  'You can call me nainai. What's your name? I've never seen you.'

'Zhang Qiling.'

'I call him Xiaoge!' Wu Xie chirped.

'Xiaoge? Aiyya, this kid. Go on then. I'll prepare tea.'

'You don't have to, mi- nainai.'

'Xiaoge is right. I'll bring the food to him later. You should rest, nainai.'

Zhang Qiling followed Wu Xie further along the corridor leading to the back courtyard. Wu Xie opened the door to his room before slamming it close again. He forgot to clean his room. He slowly turned around; lips stretched into a sheepish grin.

'Mm. Well. My room is messy. So.. Let's uh..' Wu Xie glanced around. Studying outside was not ideal since the noise might interrupt them.

'Hm. Wait. Give me three minutes!' Wu Xie entered the room and then cleaned - shoved - everything into the closet. He glanced around, making sure there was no underwear lying around. He set the folded table on the floor before opening the door. He was panting slightly, and sweat trickled down his forehead. Zhang Qiling blinked, but his hand raised to wipe off the sweat before he knew it. Wu Xie gulped, shifting away to let Zhang Qiling in. Zhang Qiling also was taken back by his action.

Loud groans escaped Wu Xie's mouth as he stretched. The bright sun was fading, and the black sky slowly appeared. It's pretty late and about to rain. Wu Xie felt bad for dragging the time. He didn't realise how fast time flew since he was determined to understand the topic.

Zhang Qiling put the book into his bag, glancing at the younger one in front of him. He looked away when his lips twitched into a small smile as Wu Xie yawned. Wu Xie looked so cute. He cleared his throat and got on his feet.

'I should go now.'

'Right. Uh. Your driver will pick you up?'

Zhang Qiling nodded. Wu Xie walked him to the front gate. Secretly he wished to spend more time with Zhang Qiling. He enjoyed the male's presence despite the lack of interaction. Xiaoge only spoke when necessary.

Wu Xie leant against the doorway, looking at the empty road. Zhang Qiling's car was not there yet.

'Hm. Xiaoge. Do you want.. wait. You already live in the town. Uh. Do you wanna hang out this weekend?'

'Saturday. I'll pick you up.'

Wu Xie was shocked, but he shook his head quickly.

'It's not that far! I can ride the bike. That damn old bike helped me a lot.'

'I insist, Wu Xie.'

'Uh. But.. but.. you already did much. I..-'

A fancy black car pulled over, and Zhang qiling got in. Wu Xie pouted, giving the older man a wave. Guess he couldn't say no.

Zhang Qiling glanced at Wu Xie through the side mirror, smiling.

The tune of jazz music continues, and the glasses are refilled with champagne or wine of their choice. Wu Xie doesn't realise he has been there for about an hour. He doesn't have any plan for when to leave. He might linger for a while since it has been a while.

'I heard they're reconstructing the town. Woah. There are so many memories there. I didn't have a chance to visit.'

'Me too. Haih. Sad to see our memories are being destroyed.'

Wu Xie had never heard so it was a surprise. 'Why they did do so?'

'The mayor wants to make the town a tourist attraction. So they decide to abolish some old buildings.'

'Huh. It's better to keep it as it is. The traditional building makes it unique.' Wu Xie mutters quietly.

'Well. We can't do anything about it.'

The day of the hangout came. Wu Xie had a few things he wanted to do with Zhang Qiling, so he listed them. Zhang Qiling didn't take a no, so Wu Xie waited for the male to pick him up. Wu Xie looked at the mirror, taking a last check of his outfit; a white hoodie and jeans. He was looking quite good. Wu Xie smirked before scrambling to the front gate as he heard a honk.

Zhang Qiling was already waiting at the gate while talking to Wu Xie's grandparents, looking awkward. Wu Xie ran to them to save his poor Xiaoge.

'You Xiao Xie!' Wu Xie winced when a slap from his grandpa landed on his back. He pouted immediately.

'Yeye!'

'You made him wait. Aiyya. Watch your behaviour.'

Zhang Qiling glanced at the younger male, taking note of their outfit contrast; he was wearing black while Wu Xie's wearing white. It suited Wu Xie.

'Let's go.'

Wu Xie waved goodbye to his grandparents and joined Zhang Qiling in the car. He gulped once he was seated on the leather seat. He nodded politely at the driver then diverted his gaze to Zhang Qiling.

'Xiaoge. I want to go to the optometrist store. I think I've gone blind.'

Zhang Qiling's used to Wu Xie being dramatic. He did notice Wu Xie had trouble looking at the whiteboard. Sometimes the male would bump or trip out of nowhere. Perhaps from clumsiness and astigmatism.

'Why didn't you go with your yeye?'

'Nah. They will get worried about it. It's not like I'm going blind. Plus, I don't want them to spend their money on me. I have money from my parents. I don't like using it but I'll splurge at a time like this. The sentences ended with evil laughter. Zhang Qiling titled his head as questions popped into his mind. As if Wu Xie could read it, the younger male continued.

'I've lived here since I was four. My parents are working in Beijing. They got divorced when I was twelve. I didn't want to live with them, so I stayed here.'

Zhang Qiling nodded slowly. Wu Xie smiled slightly. He had questions too but Zhang Qiling didn't look like he was ready to share. Sometimes he wondered if Zhang Qiling was annoyed with him.

The sun was shining early that morning. Wu Xie covered his eyes, squinting as he looked around. Although the sun was lighting the town, the weather was still chilly. Wu Xie turned to look at Zhang Qiling as the car went away.

'Is there anywhere you want to go, Xiaoge?'

'To the optometrist shop first?'

'Oh. Hmm. Sure then.'

Zhang Qiling grabbed Wu Xie's wrist and pulled him under the shade. Wu Xie had gone red, not due to the sun for sure. His heart was palpitating. Was this a heart attack sign? He gulped, disappointed when Zhang Qiling released his wrist.

Wu Xie rubbed his eyes after stepping out of the room. Well, it was worse than he expected. Zhang Qiling looked around, secretly looking for a glasses frame that suited Wu Xie's doe eyes.

'Xiaoge.' Zhang Qiling looked at the younger male, biting down a smile when the latter beamed at him.

Wu Xie's smiles were brighter than sunshine. The way the brown orbs sparkled shook Zhang Qiling's stoic heart.

'Which one do you think will suit me? Hmm. Rectangular looks weird.' Although saying so, he took it from the sales attendant and then put it on. He couldn't help but laugh when he looked at himself.

'Xiaoge. What do you think?'

Zhang Qiling's lips quirked into a small smirk. 'Weird.'

'Xiaoge!' Wu Xie pouted, then took another glass with a square frame. Wu Xie made goofy eyes and finally got a small smile from Zhang Qiling. Zhang Qiling shook his head, taking off the frame before putting on the oval one.

There you go. Wu Xie looked... pretty. He was starstruck as he watched the sparkling brown orbs again. What's happening? Zhang Qiling quickly looked away, letting Wu Xie speak with the sales attendant.

Afterwards, they went into a bookshop. It's wrong of him, but he didn't expect Wu Xie to be a bookworm. Not that he didn't see the massive collection of books in Wu Xie's room. Wu Xie hopped between the shelves while Zhang Qiling followed close, afraid Wu Xie would bump into something.

Wu Xie stopped at the fiction area and scanned for the novels he had wanted to buy.

'Xiao-' Wu Xie turned his body slightly, gasping when he realised how close Zhang Qiling's face was to his. One more move and their lips would meet. Flabbergasted, Wu Xie turned his body to the other side but staggered instead. Zhang Qiling grabbed Wu Xie's waist and tugged the younger male close. Wu Xie's heart was beating fast, uncertain of what made it happen. He noticed how Zhang Qiling was slightly taller than him and how good Zhang Qiling smelled.

Oh, oh. Raging hormone.

Wu Xie pulled away, mumbling thanks and hopped out to hide his blush while Zhang Qiling remained still.

'What do you want to eat, Xiaoge?' The smoke and smell from the stalls made Wu Xie's tummy rumble. He's so hungry after hopping around the bookstore. Thank God Zhang Qiling was patient enough to deal with him.

'Anything.'

Wu Xie huffed. 'Let's eat Sichuan pepper. Do you want to?'

'Sane enough to not eat it.'

A peal of laughter escaped Wu Xie's mouth. Zhang Qiling had a sense of humour.

'Well. Decide then. There's so much fofoodUgh. I want to try everything. What if I get fat tho. Yeye and nainai said I have a squishy tummy. Xiao Hua too.' Wu Xie pouted. Zhang Qiling tilted his head.

'Everyone has fat in their tummy.'

'I didn't say fat.'

'.....'

Wu Xie narrowed his eyes, pulling Zhang Qiling to the noodle stall.

The grand Hall is now filled with loud cheers from the attendees and the host currently hosting an event. Wu Xie's unsure what it is but has no intention to join. He keeps glancing at his watch and then leans closer to Xie Yuchen as a few other guys leave to another table.

'When are you going to leave?'

'In an hour, I guess. Xiazi will pick me up.'

Wu Xie's lips tug into a slight smirk. 'Why didn't you bring your hubby here?' Hubby refers to Hei Xiazi. An extraordinary man who manages to capture Xie Yuchen's heart. Wu Xie is happy for them.

'He's busy. What about you?'

'Hm. I guess I'll leave when you leave.'

A sports day would be held in a week, and every grade was itching to send their best representative. Wu Xie usually took a long jump but didn't want to take part this time. Everyone was bustling to fill in the name of their representative.

'Who wants to be in the 400m track?!'

'I want to participate in netball.'

'Me too!'

Wu Xie shrugged, taking a seat at Zhang Qiling's table. The male used to glare when Wu Xie did so, but he didn't mind anymore. 'Do you want to join any sport, Xiaoge?'

Zhang Qiling glanced away then shook his head. Since Wu Xie started wearing glasses, the younger male looked so adorable that he couldn't maintain eye contact.

'We still don't have one athlete for track and field. Four hundred metres run! Come on, guys.'

Wu Xie tilted his head. 'Xiaoge. This is your time to shine.'

'Wu Xie.' Wu Xie's not intimidated by the stern gaze anymore.

'Xiaoge~'

Zhang Qiling could only sigh when his name was signed up for the event.

Wu Xie gathered all the water bottles preserved for one and only Zhang Qiling. Apparently, his Xiaoge was good at running. He sat at the bleaches and watched Zhang Qiling run another lap. Oh, how the biceps flexed. Wu Xie gulped then looked away, cheeks heating up and he blamed it on the sunlight.

Zhang Qiling smiled slightly when he saw Wu Xie waving at him from afar. Let's say what kept him going was Wu Xie. He was angry when Wu Xie signed his name up but couldn't stay mad at Wu Xie any longer. Just look at the puppy dog eyes and beautiful smiles. Who's in the sane mind would refuse.

Wu Xie got off the bleaches with a towel, rushing to Xiaoge. Zhang Qiling muttered a thank when he took the towel to wipe his sweat. Honestly, Wu Xie shouldn't wait for him.

'You don't have to wait for me every day, Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie shook his head, handing him the water bottle. 'It's fine. I have nothing to do anyway.'

'You can study.'

Wu Xie whined. 'Come on. My score is better thanks to you, Xiaoge. I don't think I should study for a while.'

Zhang Qiling raised his hand and then pinched Wu Xie's cheek. Actually, he had been wanting to do it whenever Wu Xie whined or rumbled. Better, he wanted to squeeze those soft cheeks. Wu Xie blinked when the long fingers left his cheeks. Now he's blushing again, and he's blaming the sun again.

Wu Xie was Zhang Qiling's number one supporter. He hopped around Zhang Qiling, ensuring the male was hydrated and well before the event began.

'Xiaoge. Are you nervous?'

'You are.' Wu Xie pouted. Yes, he's nervous because he's afraid that Zhang Qiling will get hurt.

'I just want to be safe.'

Wu Xie smiled widely, glancing around. The students were filling up the bleaches and many athletes were warming up at the field.

They were staying still. Wu Xie swore they were, but one blind bastard purposely bumped against Xiaoge. The man glanced at both of them.

'Seriously. You're in my way.'

Wu Xie was starting to fume. What kind bullshit was that? Zhang Qiling didn't spare any glance. They're not worthy of being paid attention to. He quickly held Wu Xie's arm to calm the younger man down.

Just about Wu Xie to cool off, the same guy stepped closer and purposely stepped on Zhang Qiling's shoes.

'Nice one you got there. Original or copy?' He started laughing with his friends. Zhang Qiling didn't care. It's just shoes. The man was not satisfied as he was being ignored.

'You think you're cool? Not saying anything like a dumb mute. Oi. I'm talking to you.'

Zhang Qiling's jaw clenched, but he remained calm.

'I heard you're older than us. You really must be a dumb fuck-'

Wu Xie swung a punch right in the man's face. He's puffing and huffing in anger. 'What? Dumb? You're the one who's dumb! Stupid fuck! Are you blind!'

It was too fast that Zhang Qiling couldn't stop the punch on Wu Xie's face.

Now we got a problem.

The dark eyes darken than the black cloud. He almost beat the males to the pulp.

Wu Xie kept glancing at Zhang Qiling while standing in the principal office. They had to ring Xiaoge's family but not Wu Xie's since the teachers didn't want to torment his grandparents. Wu Xie sighed as he looked at Zhang Qiling's bleeding knuckles.

'Xiaoge. It must have hurt. I'm sorry.'

The door was slammed open, and a woman in her 30s scurried in. She looked at Zhang Qiling in disbelief, shaking her head.  'Zhang Qiling! You never get in trouble. What.. who are you friend with?!'

Wu Xie cowered, distancing himself from Zhang Qiling. He had been a bad influence on Xiaoge. Wu Xie didn't mean so. Perhaps he'd beg the principal from giving Xiaoge a demerit and take all the punishment.

The female sighed, turning Zhang Qiling around to check for other injuries. Wu Xie didn't say anything but flinched when the female looked at him. Shit. Maybe he should apologise.

'I'm-'

'Are you hurt too?' The female sighed, cradling Wu Xie's cheek gently to look at the bruise on his cheek.

'I'm.. Xiaoge. It's my fault.'

Wu Xie had no idea what was this woman's relationship with Xiaoge.

'No, no. I'm not going to scold you. I'm Liang Wan. This boy's sister-in-law. I'm a doctor. You didn't get hurt that bad.'

'Treat him first.' She sent a glare to Zhang Qiling.

They settled the dispute and they were given a punishment instead of a demerit. Wu Xie could sigh in relief for that. He's not going to jeopardise Xiaoge's academics.

Wu Xie pressed the ice pack against his cheek as he watched Liang Wan nag at her brother-in-law while treating his wounds. Wu Xie almost giggled at how hopeless Zhang Qiling looked.

'Wu Xie. Where do you live? Let me take you home.'

Wu Xie shook his head quickly. The female doctor was nice enough to treat his wound. 'It's okay. I can go home on my own.'

'Haih. Come on. Don't be stubborn.' No wonder Zhang Qiling was quiet the whole time. The female was intimidating.

The journey was not as quiet as compared to when the chauffeur drove. Liang Wan kept asking Wu Xie questions. The silence before always made him suffocate.

'So you're the only son?'

'Yes. One and only.' Wu Xie glanced at Zhang Qiling's bandaged hand. He felt so bad for what had happened. Wu Xie moved his hand closer to Zhang Qiling and carefully linked their pinky fingers. Zhang Qiling stiffened but he didn't pull away. His heart was starting to beat faster which perplexed him.

'Sorry, Xiaoge.' Wu Xie mouthed when the elder male looked at him. Zhang Qiling shook his head, finally holding Wu Xie's hand after gathering his courage.

It was summer vacation but it didn't stop Zhang Qiling from tutoring Wu Xie. Although it became more like a hangout rather than a tutor lesson.

'Xiaoge! I don't know what else to write. Why did they ask us to keep a journal? In English on top of that. Look what I wrote. I spent my day with Xiaoge.'

Wu Xie's accent sounded so cute. Wu Xie pouted when he didn't get any response.

'Xiaoge. Don't ignore me. What did you write?' Wu Xie crawled forward, pressing his elbows on the wooden floor. Zhang Qiling sighed, shaking his head.

'Nothing much.'

Wu Xie peered over the book before smiling. Xiaoge wrote plenty. 'You have many ideas. Share with me!'

'No.'

'Xiaogeeeee. Pleaseee.'

'My journal.'

Wu Xie made a face and then sat up properly. Although the summer vacation was only a few days, he was bored. There were more days to come. 'Xiaoge. Let's go to the beach.'

Zhang Qiling closed his book. Beach sounded like a good idea. One of the reasons he stayed at Wu Xie's home was because he was home alone. Plus, that's also an excuse for him to look at Wu Xie's face every day if possible.

'Beach?'

'Yes! We can go there by bus. When should we go? Tomorrow? What do-'

'Xiao Xie!! Xiao Hua is here!!' Wu Xie's grandpa shouted from the front courtyard.

Oh. It's odd to have Xiao Hua coming over, but it's okay.

'TELL HIM TO COME IN.'

Zhang Qiling winced when Wu Xie shouted back. Wu Xie grinned sheepishly.

'Xiao Hua come here sometimes. Mostly to make sure I don't get into any trouble.'

Zhang Qiling hummed in reply. From what he saw, Wu Xie was not a troublemaker. He never hit or bullied other students. Well, he did sleep in the class and didn't finish his homework. He was never late anymore—Wu Xie's kind, friendly and bright. Everyone in the neighbourhood adored him. Just a little mishap didn't mean he's a bad person.

'Wu Xie. Zhang...Qiling?'

Xiao Hua knew they were close but didn't know their closeness to the extent of hanging out during vacation.

'What are you doing? Sit down!'

Wu Xie scooted closer to Zhang Qiling although there was more space left. Xie Yuchen gave them a look before sitting down too. If he didn't know better, he would say...

'Xiao Hua. I was just asking Xiaoge if he wants to go to the beach. Do you want to tag along?'

Zhang Qiling almost glared at the innocent Xie Yuchen. He wanted to spend time with Wu Xie alone but... Well.

'Sure.'

'Yes! That's a plan.'

'Hey, babe.' Wu Xie tilts his head upon hearing the voice. This man is full of surprise. Xie Yuchen turns around, shaking his head. He's uncertain whether to feel touched or surprised.

'I thought you have work.'

'I've decided to come since I'm afraid someone old lover might come and snatch my beautiful boyfriend.' Xie Yuchen made a face but leaned against his lover afterwards.

'Your boyfriend?'

'Oh, hi. I'm Hei Xiazi. Xiao Hua's boyfriend. Nice to meet you all.'

Wu Xie smiled against the glass, shaking his head.

'Where did you guys meet?'

'We meet in college. Right, babe?'

Xie Yuchen nodded.

'Ah. It's normal for us to get married and have kids now.'

'Time flies. In high school, there were couples here and there. Like that...'

It was the day and Wu Xie was excitedly waiting at the bus stop with Xie Yuchen and Zhang Qiling. The Wu grandparents packed them food for the picnic. It's unnecessary a lot but three hungry boys might demolish it in no time.

'Xiaoge. Have you ever been to a beach?'

'Of course, he has. Dumb.'

'Xiao Hua! I'm not asking you.'

Zhang Qiling answered a yes then Wu Xie beamed.

'That's great then. I want to buy ice cream later. Ice cream under this weather sounds so heavenly.'

Xie Yuchen glanced at Zhang Qiling wearily. He didn't know his intention for getting close to Wu Xie. Sure Wu Xie was the one who followed him like a puppy, but why the male didn't brush Wu Xie away? He heard that Zhang Qiling came from a wealthy family. His house was the biggest one in town. Not that Wu Xie was not as rich but Xie Yuchen couldn't help but get sceptical.

The moment they got off the bus, they were greeted sound of waves from the sea and chatters from the visitor at the beach. Wu Xie inhaled the salty air and exhaled loudly.

'Let's gooo!'

Wu Xie dashed to the beach and the two men hurried after him. They couldn't let Wu Xie out of their sight for a second.

'Put it on.' Xie Yuchen tried to put on the sunscreen all over Wu Xie's face when the male stubbornly refused. At this point, he really thought that he was babysitting. Wu Xie had quite fair skin. He could feel the sunburn. Zhang Qiling glanced at the stubborn boy before grabbing the bottle from Xie Yuchen.

'Wu Xie.'

'Yes, Xiaoge?'

Zhang Qiling poured some of the creams on his palm and gently rubbed them on Wu Xie's face. Wu Xie knew it wasn't the sunlight that heated his cheeks. His heart was pounding as Zhang Qiling wordlessly put the sunscreen on his face.

Xie Yuchen rolled his eyes and snorted in disbelief.

Those teenage boys spent a splendid time in the water, swimming, splashing and playing with each other. Wu Xie felt light and happy especially when he saw Zhang Qiling's little smiles. Xie Yuchen was also playing along with them. Although Zhang Qiling stopped them a few times from drowning each other.

Xie Yuchen had to leave early. That left Wu Xie and Zhang Qiling. Of course, they both liked it.

The sun had dipped below the horizon painting the sky with blue, purple and pink. Wu Xie had always loved the mixture of those colours. Most visitors had already left the beach while some stayed for stargazing. In a split second, the moon shone and the stars sparkled.

Wu Xie smiled widely at the sight. He wouldn't have the chance to enjoy this view in the city so staying here was one of his good choices.

'Xiaoge.'

'Hm?'

'You still didn't answer me. Why did you move to our school?'

Zhang Qiling's dark eyes flickered to the brown orbs that sparked curiosity. 'Secret.'

'Xiaoge!' Wu Xie huffed. Look like Zhang Qiling also knew how to tease him.

'Something changed. That's why.' Vague but it's better than nothing.

Wu Xie's toes wiggled, digging into the sand. His heart was beating faster again as he was left alone with Zhang Qiling. Not that they never stayed alone but the feelings in Wu Xie's chest were too much. The butterflies in his stomach begged him to flutter freely outside, circling him.

Wu Xie admitted he liked Zhang Qiling more than a friend.

Wu Xie did not have any issue with his sexuality. He wasn't taught that man and man couldn't be together. It was something that occurred to him that gender didn't matter. He never explored if he liked men or women but he knew right then that he liked Zhang Qiling.

'Xiaoge.'

Zhang Qiling hummed in reply. Wu Xie turned to look at the elder male, gulping. Had Zhang Qiling always been this handsome? Wu Xie stared into the dark eyes again. The sentence hung at the edge of his lips. Wu Xie's mouth opened and closed. He took a deep breath before continuing.

'Xiaoge, I like you.'

Zhang Qiling blinked. What did this mean? Like?

Wu Xie nibbled his lower lip due to Zhang Qiling's lack of reaction. Why was it so hard to read Zhang Qiling? Wu Xie wanted to hold Zhang Qiling's cheeks and squeeze them! Ugh.

Another second passed and Wu Xie's heart dropped.

'Mm. I.. I'm not expecting a reply, Xiaoge. I just want you to know that I like you. More. Than. a friend' Wu Xie laughed awkwardly. 'Sorry. I.. I shouldn't have said that. Please don't stop being friends with me, Xiaoge.'

Wu Xie's words went through Zhang Qiling's right and left ears. He was stunned but, he also had something to say too.

'Wu Xie. I like you too.'

Now, Wu Xie's the one who didn't react.

Wait? What? Wu Xie blinked. Did Zhang Qiling just...?

'Wu Xie. I like you.' Zhang Qiling said confidently this time.

Wu Xie finally got his mind together. His hands flew to his mouth to hide his ugly shriek. He's too stunned to say anything.

'Can.. Can I kiss you?'

Wu Xie almost fainted. Zhang Qiling wanted to kiss him.

His very first kiss.

Wu Xie nodded, pulling his hands away. He didn't make any move, letting Zhang Qiling leant closer instead. Wu Xie gulped, his heart was skipping a beat. What should he do? What should he do?

Zhang Qiling pressed his lips against Wu Xie's lips gently. The moment their lips touched, Wu Xie felt only two of them left in the cosmos. He was too afraid to make any move and he had never kissed before. Zhang Qiling pulled away slowly to look at Wu Xie.

'Again.' Wu Xie mumbled. 'Kiss me again.'

Zhang Qiling cradled Wu Xie's cheek and kissed him gently, moving his lips this time. Wu Xie shut his eyes closed, trying to imitate the movement. Zhang Qiling smiled into the kiss and continued kissing Wu Xie.

'It's going to be autumn soon then.'

'I can't wait for the mid-autumn festival. I met my wife there.'

They start to laugh. 'Wow. Really?'

'Yes! You don't believe me?'

'Well. Who wants someone like you?'

'This bastard really..'

Wu Xie glances at his phone, opening it to check the calendar. It's true. The festival is happening soon. He can't believe that he almost missed the date. Perhaps, he has been too busy.

'Wu Xie. Do you want to come with us?'

Wu Xie raises his eyebrows at Hei Xiazi's question.  'Do you really want to torture me as your third wheel?'

Hei Xiazi scoffs. 'You're too busy. Xiao Hua is worried about you.'

Wu Xie smiles faintly at his friends.

'Xiaoge!' Wu Xie hurried to his boyfriend, yes, boyfriend, before walking into the school together. After the visit to the beach, they were officially a couple. Wu Xie didn't tell anyone yet, but he's so happy and giddy about having Zhang Qiling as his boyfriend. They hung out, and dated, after school at food stalls or Wushanju. It's really nice to spend every moment with Zhang Qiling.

Zhang Qiling smiled softly at the younger. Since they lived far from each other, Zhang Qiling opted to wait for Wu Xie at the front gate before walking in together. Wu Xie would be late sometimes and the prefect watched him with a  weird look but said nothing when they saw the dark eyes. The prefect still jotted down their names.

'Are we still going to study after school?'

Zhang Qiling looked at his boyfriend before shaking his head. He had another idea.

'Oh. Then? We go...home?' Wu Xie was too clingy. He wanted to stay with Zhang Qiling 24/7.

Zhang Qiling smiled slightly at the disappointed face. 'Let's go to my house.'

Zhang Qiling never invited Wu Xie to his house. The latter always wondered why Zhang Qiling was willing to go to Wushanju instead as it's quite a distance to the city. Wu Xie was getting insecure because he knew Zhang Qiling came from a wealthy family. His mind was suddenly filled with the soap drama his nainai watched. The thought of it made him sad.

'Wu Xie?'

'Huh?' Wu Xie blinked. 'Uh. Is that okay...? I don't want to bother you. Hm.. I..'

Zhang Qiling frowned at the reluctance but he assured the younger male. 'It's fine, Wu Xie. I want you to come.'

'Xiao Hua! Can you take my bike home?'

Xie Yuchen's eyes narrowed at the request. Where's Wu Xie going this time?

Wu Xie pouted, walking with Xiao Hua to the front gate, swarmed with the students. Wu Xie glanced around to spot his lover. There he was, waiting in front of the car. Xie Yuchen when he caught that.

'Where are you going? Do yeye and nainai know?'

It was impromptu so there was no way his grandparents knew. 'Tell them for me...?' Wu Xie bat his eyelashes. Xie Yuchen was not convinced.

'I'm going to Xiaoge's house. He asked me to come this morning. So.. yeye and nainai don't know. I'll be back... maybe before dinner. Anyway, thank you, Xiao Hua! You're the best!'

Wu Xie's gone before Xie Yuchen could utter another word.

Silence filled the air again. Wu Xie glanced at the driver wearily then shifted his gaze to the handsome male next time. Every time he's reminded that Zhang Qiling's his boyfriend, Wu Xie would feel giddy all over again.

'Xiaoge.'

'Hm?'

'Who.. I mean, is anyone home?'

Zhang Qiling shook his head. 'I'm not sure.'

Wu Xie hummed then grabbed Zhang Qiling's hand; cheeks blushed. The older man quirked into a small smile before intertwining their fingers. Why his boyfriend was so cute?

The mansion itself was pretty big not to the extent of humongous, built with a British fusion architecture. Wu Xie couldn't help but marvelled when he saw that. The courtyard was spacious, enough to locate at least five cars. Zhang Qiling squeezed Wu Xie's hand to snap him out of his thought. Wu Xie beamed and then followed Zhang Qiling inside.

There were a few people there; butler and house helpers Wu Xie presumed. The young boy looked around again, amazed by the luxurious interior. Simple yet classy. Zhang Qiling watched Wu Xie's eyes twinkle, holding himself back from kissing the boy in the middle of the living room.

'Wu Xie.'

'Hm?'

'Let's go.'

Wu Xie blinked, gripping Zhang Qiling's hand when he was pulled upstairs.

He didn't understand why he was shy to enter Xiaoge's bedroom. They had spent a lot of time in his bedroom but it never crossed his mind that he would have the chance to visit Zhang Qiling's bedroom.

Zhang Qiling tilted his head as he watched Wu Xie fidgeting while looking around nervously. 'Hey. Are you okay?'

'Huh?! Yes!' Wu Xie nodded fast, and finally took a full glimpse of Zhang Qiling's bedroom. The walls were painted grey, a queen-sized bed with black bedsheet spread in the middle of the room, a table facing the window, a bathroom and a sliding door connected to the balcony. Minimalistic and neat. Just like his Xiaoge.

Zhang Qiling pulled Wu Xie again to the bed and sat down with him. Wu Xie put his bag on the floor and shrugged off his uniform jacket, revealing his white t-shirt underneath. Zhang Qiling scooted closer and then placed a kiss on Wu Xie's cheek. Wu Xie almost yelped, his heart skipped another beat.

A few weeks into the relationship, Wu Xie realised that Zhang Qiling was touchy or affectionate. Wu Xie liked it too but it didn't stop him from blushing all the time. Zhang Qiling with his blank face after being affectionate, of course, made him flustered.

'So this is your turf, huh.'

Zhang Qiling nodded.

'Xiaoge. Wan jie is your sister-in-law, so she married your brother. How many brothers do you have?'

'Two.'

'Two? Really?' Wu Xie looked down at his fingers. How could he call himself Xiaoge's boyfriend when he didn't know much about him? He's upset about it. Zhang Qiling also didn't tell him much but.. Wu Xie shook his head, shaking off the negative thoughts.

Zhang Qiling blinked then cradled Wu Xie's cheeks. 'Are you okay?'

'En! Oh, wait. I need to tell nainai about it then.' Wu Xie's eyebrows furrowed. 'Huh! Wait! How I'm going back then. Uh.. Xiaoge. I can't stay for dinner today so-'

'I'll take you home.'

'No no no. It's far. I don't want to bother you. I.. Mm. Next time? I'll tell yeye to pick me up in advance and then-'

Wu Xie's mouth continued with a loud gasp when Zhang Qiling pinned him down on the bed.

'Wu Xie.'

'Yes?' Wu Xie squeaked. Zhang Qiling leant down and kissed his lips softly.

'It's alright. Don't worry about it. Please?'

Wu Xie nodded slowly, brown orbs staring at the mesmerising dark eyes. He stayed still as Zhang Qiling also remained unmoved. His breath hitched when the cold hand snuck underneath his shirt, feeling his skin.

'Xiaoge.' Wu Xie whispered, loud enough for two of them.

'Do you want me to stop?'

Wu Xie gulped, gripping the bedsheet. They never did more than cuddling and kissing. Wu Xie wanted more but he never knew how to start so he let time determine.

Wu Xie's getting flustered at the thought of having his first time in Zhang Qiling's bedroom. Oh, how intimate it felt. Wu Xie also knew Zhang Qiling wouldn't push him to do things he didn't want to do.

'I will stop if-'

'Xiaoge!' Wu Xie looked away, hating how the cold room heated his cheeks.

'I'm.. Okay.'

Zhang Qiling nuzzled Wu Xie's cheek and continued to pamper kisses on his jawline, and chin and stopped at the milky white neck. Wu Xie gasped, hands searched for the jet black hair. Oh, how the small suckles sent shivers down his spine, tingling his body. Zhang Qiling held Wu Xie firm and gentle, trying to not hurt the male as much as he could.

He gave the mark another lick and looked at his lover. Gosh, Wu Xie looked so beautiful.

'Xiaoge.' Wu Xie moaned softly. His mind was going blank and Zhang Qiling's touches kept him alive.

'Xiaoge.' He whispered again. Zhang Qiling couldn't take his eyes off Wu Xie. So beautiful. He leant down and captured the pink lips of Wu Xie. The kiss was the only start of everything.

'Xiaoge. I love you.'

'I love you, Wu Xie.'

The rustle and sound of the door being closed woke Wu Xie out of his sleep. He curled up and snuggled to the fluffy pillow. When the memories of what happened before falling asleep made him freeze. They had....

Wu Xie covered his mouth and muffled a squeal into his palms. Zhang Qiling was so gentle yet so firm, assuring him, praising him along the way. Wu Xie shrieked, biting his lower lip. He lowered the blanket and his head peered over the blanket to find his lover. When the door to the bathroom opened, Wu Xie hid under the blanket.

Zhang Qiling walked to the bed and sat down. Wu Xie was already awake, he saw the wide eyes searching for him.

'Wu Xie. Are you awake?'

Thump. Thump.

Zhang Qiling huffed a chuckle before pulling the blanket slowly to reveal the messy dark brown hair.

'Xiaoge!' Wu Xie gripped it tight, shaking his head.

'Are you okay?' Zhang Qiling caressed the boy's cheek gently. He's afraid he might have hurt Wu Xie unintentionally.

'I'm okay. Just.. sore.'

'Let's wash up. I'll help you.'

Wu Xie sat up, rubbing his eye. 'I thought I came for dinner.'

'You're my dinner.'

'Xiaoge!' Wu Xie burst into a laugh. 'Who are you? Where's my Xiaoge?' Zhang Qiling pinched Wu Xie's nose and then lifted him, and bundled him in the blanket.

'Xiaoge!' Zhang Qiling huffed, carrying the male to the bathroom.

Wu Xie had changed into Zhang Qiling's clothes and they were about to go down for dinner. The younger male abruptly stopped at the stairs.

'Wait. Xiaoge!' Zhang Qiling blinked.

'Oh my god. I'm meeting your family. What the hell? And I'm dressed like this.' Wu Xie started to whine. 'I'll just go home, Xiaoge.'

Zhang Qiling cradled Wu Xie's cheek gently, running the pad of his thumb on the cheekbone. 'It's okay. I'm here.'

'Really? What if they don't like me? Like in the drama nainai always watched. The boyfriend's family always doesn't like the girlfriend. What if your family- I mean I know your family is nice. I'm just scared, Xiaoge.'

Zhang Qiling knew Wu Xie's rambles won't end so he kissed him. Wu Xie's eyes widened, still wide when Zhang Qiling pulled away.

'Let's go.' Zhang Qiling grabbed his lover's hand and pulled him to the dining table.

The dining table was longer than the one in Wushanju. The carving on the wooden chair was exquisite. Three people were waiting for them. Wu Xie recognised one of them, Liang Wan. The doctor helped them during the fight. The two remaining males were watching him intensely. Wu Xie yelped and then hid behind Zhang Qiling quickly. The male shook his head, pulling Wu Xie to sit at the table.

'Wu Xie. Nice to see you again.'

Wu Xie smiled softly. 'Nice to see you too, Wan jie.'

'Ah. Zhang Qiling finally brought you home. Take me a lot to convince him.'

Blood rushed to his cheeks as he ducked his head from the four pairs of eyes. This was so nerve-wracking.

'Wu Xie, is it?'

Wu Xie turned to look at the male quickly. His eyes were sharp and a dimple decorated his cheeks. 'Yes, ....sir?'

Liang Wan scoffed. 'Can't you guys introduce yourself first? You're scaring him. You too, Zhang Rishan!'

Wu Xie glanced at another male who appeared calm but stoic, a silver bangle wrapped around his wrist. Guess that's Zhang Rishan.

'I'm Zhang Qishan. Don't be afraid.'

Wu Xie nodded, gulping. 'Hm.. I'm Wu Xie. Thank you for having me.'

'Aww. He's so well mannered.'

'Where do you live?' Zhang Rishan asked.

'Hm. In the town. Near the antique store.'

'It's his grandparents.' Zhang Qiling added. No one else sold antiques except Wu Xie's grandfather.

'I see. Let's eat then.'

Once the spread was served, they started to indulge. Questions were asked here and there. Although they looked as cold as Zhang Qiling they were not as scary as Wu Xie thought.

'How did you befriend Zhang Qiling?'

Wu Xie almost laughed when the question was asked.

'Xiaoge? Well. Funny....' Wu Xie glanced around. Was it okay to tell funny stories? Liang Wan immediately assured the boy to continue.

'I kind of fell on him when we first met. I don't know how he ended up at the back gate. Then I brought him to the principal office although I got lectured after that. And then he is in my class. Xiaoge always ignored me but I always follow him until he became my....friend.'

Suddenly it hit Wu Xie. He couldn't announce their relationship to the world as he only knew then that same-sex relationship was frowned upon. He glanced at Zhang Qiling before smiling.

'Yes. That's how we became friends. I kind off annoyed him until he befriend me.' Wu Xie chuckled, satisfied that their gaze softened.

'It's late. You should stay over.'

Wu Xie glanced at the clock, sinking his upper teeth against his lower lip. What should he do? He'd be a bother if he go back or stay over.

He could walk home. He's used to that so he won't bother anyone. 'Mm. I'll go home.'

'Alright. I'll take you home.'

'No!' Wu Xie stopped Zhang Qishan. The latter looked surprised. Zhang Qiling also looked concerned.

'Sorry. Hahaha. That came out too strong. I'm saying I'll go back on my own. I don't want to bother all of you. Thank you so much for dinner.'

'Wu Xie. Come on. Choose now, sleep here or we'll drive you home.'

Wu Xie glanced at Zhang Qiling, hoping for a suggestion.

'Stay over.'

Yes, sure. Anything for his boyfriend.

Thud. Door closed.

The long fingers crawled underneath the thin white shirt, caressing the smooth skin. Wu Xie jostled, giggling against Zhang Qiling's lips. He grunted, tilting his head back as his hand worked on Zhang Qiling's jeans.

It had been a routine for them to hang out or have a sleepover at each other house. Wu Xie didn't know if any of them noticed their relationship but he guessed no since no one was saying anything.

Wu Xie bit his lower lip, stopping himself from chuckling. They're trying to be quiet as it's...  daylight.

Zhang Qiling captured Wu Xie's lips again, ravishing the sweet lips. His hand ran on Wu Xie's soft naked skin. Wu Xie gasped, arching his back. Zhang Qiling growled, slipping his hand into Wu Xie-

'XIAO XIE!! IS THAT XIAO ZHANG WITH YOU?'

Wu Xie pushed the male above him, shuffling around to dress up. Zhang Qiling tsk, fixing his own pants. He ran his fingers through the brown hair, shaking his head.

'Xiaoge. It's your fault.' Wu Xie hissed. Zhang Qiling shrugged and kissed the top of Wu Xie's head. Wu Xie squeezed Zhang Qiling's hands.

It's the mid-autumn festival. One of the festivals that Wu Xie loved to celebrate because of its significance and how it was celebrated in this town. So the couple would be going to the town later tonight. Xie Yuchen decided not to join them since... he knew but he's not saying anything, waiting for his dumb childhood friend to tell him himself.

'Xiao Hua is not coming?'

'En! I don't know why.' They walked along the corridor to go to the kitchen since their names were shouted. Well, it's a tradition for him to make mooncakes with his grandma.

'Nainai~' Wu Xie sing sang while hugging the old lady. Strong and charismatic still. She huffed, patting Wu Xie's cheek.

'Hurry up. Help me now. Xiao Zhang. Let me teach you.'

Zhang Qiling eyed the dough, filling and tool quietly. He never made mooncakes since his brothers usually bought them from the store.

'Come here. Don't be shy. Xiao Xie is already good, hm, not really.'

'Nainai!'

'Hush. He used to eat the filling only and I had always to make a new one.'

Wu Xie rolled his eyes, grumbling as he worked on the mooncake. Zhang Qiling watched the delicate fingers roll the dough and then pressed it into the mould. Wu Xie turned the tool over before smacking it down, revealing a perfectly made mooncake. Wu Xie smirked, satisfied with his skill.

'I'm good at this, Xiaoge.'

Zhang Qiling smiled slightly before helping them make more mooncakes.

The sky was slowly turned dark as the sun has set but the street lightened up with the lanterns hung across the buildings. Kids and families were filling the usual empty street. Wu Xie hummed softly as he walked to the festival with his lover. He took a glimpse of him before smiling. The look on Zhang Qiling's face was precious when they were making mooncakes. The small smiles that he never saw often were there just now.

Zhang Qiling looked at Wu Xie as the latter kept looking at him. 'Is there anything on my face?'

'Hmmm.'

Zhang Qiling blinked then touched his face. Wu Xie laughed softly, shaking his head.

'Nothing, Xiaoge. Can't I look at my boyfriend?'

Zhang Qiling huffed a chuckle, glancing around too.

'Xiaoge.'

'Hm?'

Wu Xie shoved his hand into his pockets, hand squirming to retrieve something. A pair of silver bracelets was revealed when Wu Xie pulled them out.

'Hm.' Wu Xie's cheeks heat up despite the cool breeze.

'This.. For us. I followed yeye and then bought this. It's not much... but I asked then owner to carve our initials.' Wu Xie gulped studying Zhang Qiling's face.

'Mm. Do you want the one with my initials or...'

Zhang Qiling took one of the bracelets off Wu Xie's hand gently and inspect the bracelet. Like fate, he took the one with Wu Xie's initial. 'I'll take this.'

Wu Xie turned the bracelet around, smiling widely. 'Xiaoge. Put it on me..'

Zhang Qiling's lips curled into a fond smile. His chest felt warm and he felt.. Happy. He was always happy when he was around Wu Xie.

Wu Xie started to fidget again, nibbling his lower lip. Zhang Qiling took the bracelet wordlessly and then gently put it around Wu Xie's wrist. Wu Xie's heart thumped, threatening to leap out of his ribcage.

'Done.'

Wu Xie squeaked a small thank you before looking down. Zhang Qiling held out his bracelet, wanting Wu Xie to do the same. The younger male almost whine when he took the bracelet.

Why did it feel like they were getting married? Exchanging bracelets in the middle of the sea of people. Wu Xie looked up when he was done, beaming a bright smile.

'Let's go.'

Wu Xie nodded fast then hopped forward. Time to find the lantern and write down his wishes.

They bought a lantern each and moved ahead to write down their wishes. Wu Xie kept glancing at his lover's lantern, curious about his wish.

'Xiaoge. Why did you write?'

'Secret.'

Wu Xie huffed and continued to write down his wish on the lantern.

The people started to gather around with their lanterns, waiting to release them into the air. Wu Xie stayed close to Zhang Qiling, still curious.

'What do you wish for, Wu Xie?'

'Well. I wish for our family happiness and health and wealth. And for us...'  He giggled. 'Secret!' He stuck his tongue at him, satisfied to tease Zhang Qiling.

'I wish for our wishes to come true, Wu Xie.' Zhang Qiling whispered, letting go of the lantern and letting it float into the sky. Wu Xie slowly let the lantern go, leaning against Zhang Qiling.

'I love you, Xiaoge.'

'I love you, Wu Xie.'

Another piece of jazz music is being played and the event continues. For the 100th time, Wu Xie glances at his watch again, fixing the bracelet on his wrist.

'Hey. You have been looking at your watch! Is someone waiting?'

Wu Xie scoffs, sipping the rest of the drink in his glass. The clock is ticking and it's almost time for him to take his leave. He doesn't know how to conclude his feelings about this gathering. Perhaps, good but also just fine. He's unsure if he will go next time.

Time is always seen as something precious. Time is money. That's what people come up with. For Wu Xie, time is time. It will pass and never come back. What people need to do is cherish the present. Every second, every minute, every hour. The moment of the present will become a past. Wu Xie tries to live in the present. He learnt it the hard way.

The office was quiet than usual, only the sound of papers flipping and fans was heard. Wu Xie glanced at his homeroom teacher and then shifted it to the papers on the table. It's time to talk about the future.

'Your grade has improved a lot.'

Wu Xie nodded, proud to say that Zhang Qiling helped him a lot.

'Is there anywhere you want to go? Any major interested you?'

Wu Xie tilted his head. 'Well. I don't know which university to go but I want to major in architecture.'

The teacher looked surprised. 'Architecture? I don't know you have that dream, Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie huffed, rolling his eyes. 'Well. Someone like me cannot be an architect?'

'Haiyya. That's not what I mean. It's unexpected but doesn't mean it's not good. I think you can get in if you keep your good result. Do well in the college entrance examination. I know you can do it, Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie's lips bloomed into a grin. He thanked his teacher and then skipped out of the office. He couldn't wait to tell his lover about it.

The classroom was more bustling than usual, the students were swarming, boys in particular, outside of the classroom. Wu Xie was puzzled. What they were looking at?

Wu Xie patted the student's back who blocked the back door. 'What's going on?'

'Haih. Wu Xie. You're close with that Zhang Qiling, right?'

Xiaoge? Wu Xie blinked, nodding.

'Do you know who's that? Is that his girlfriend?'

Girlfriend.

Wu Xie's tummy twisted at the word. But a girl? Might be Liang Wan though.

'I don't know! Aish. Let me in.' Wu Xie grumbled, pushing his way into the classroom. Wu Xie's body froze when he saw a beautiful girl sitting at Zhang Qiling's table. They were whispering and the girl was giggling. The girl was not wearing the school's uniform though. Who was she?

Wu Xie dragged his heavy legs slowly, glancing at Zhang Qiling.

'Xiaoge.'

The girl blinked. Oh, how the long eyelashes fluttered. Her deer-like eyes were so beautiful, sharp nose and pink lips. She looked like mixed-blood instead of a full Chinese.

'Hi! You must be Wu Xie. Zhang Qiling's friend.'

Friend. Wu Xie's eyes flickered to his lover before smiling at the girl.

'I'm Ah Ning. Nice to meet you.'

'Nice to meet you too.' She got off the table. 'Anyway, I have to go now. Zhang Qiling. I'll wait for you, okay.'

Zhang Qiling didn't even flinch when she squeezed his hand. Wu Xie felt his heart start to clench in pain. They must be friends. Wu Xie was about to ask more questions but the teacher walked into the class.

During the class, Wu Xie's mind was full of questions.

Ah Ning. Who was she?

Zhang Qiling left as soon as the bell rang before Wu Xie could turn around. Xie Yuchen looked at his friend quietly, worry started to flood his heart.

'Wu Xie. Are you okay?'

'Huh? Yes!'

'Let's go back together.'

It had been a while for sure but Zhang Qiling asked Wu Xie to hang out at the mansion this evening. 'Hm. I'm..  not sure. I'll ask Xiaoge first.'

Xie Yuchen nodded, sighing as Wu Xie dashed out of the classroom.

The students were still whispering, wondering who's the pretty girl walking with Zhang Qiling. Wu Xie was panting as he tried to catch up with his lover.

'Xiaoge!' Wu Xie breathed heavily, sighing.

'Xiaoge. Are we still-'

'Ah Ning. Go on first.'

Wu Xie watched her, smiling faintly when she waved at him. Now, he needed an answer. Was he being unreasonable if he asked Zhang Qiling about Ah Ning? Zhang Qiling was secretive. Wu Xie didn't want to force him but..

'Are we still hanging out at your house?'

'Sorry, Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie's mouth opened and closed. Should he ask why? He swallowed down the question and nodded.

'I'll see you tomorrow then, Xiaoge.'

Zhang Qiling nodded and turned to leave. Wu Xie watched him dejected, hissing when more students whispered about Zhang Qiling with Ah Ning, wondering if they were lovers. No! Wu Xie wanted to scream that but no. He couldn't.

The journey home was quiet. Xie Yuchen kept glancing at the pouting male beside before sighing. He couldn't take it anymore.

'What's your relationship with Xiaoge?'

Wu Xie almost tripped on thin air, looking at Xie Yuchen with wide eyes. Did he seriously think he wouldn't know? Oh, how oblivious Wu Xie was. The bracelets on their hands screamed everything.

'W- what.. what..' Wu Xie's flustered.

'Do you think I'm dumb or are you dumb? It's obvious, Wu Xie. You think I don't know the look in your eyes and that bracelet.'

Wu Xie glanced at his wrist and huffed. He thought he was secretive enough. 'Yes. We got together during summer vacation.'

Xie Yuchen nodded. Not that he didn't see the glare Zhang Qiling sent him.

'So who's that girl?'

Wu Xie sighed out loud. 'I don't know. I don't know, Xiao Hua. Sometimes I feel frustrated since he barely tells me anything.'

If they wanted to last then there should be no secret between them.

'Wu Xie. You can ask him.'

Wu Xie heaved another sigh. 'I don't know, Xiao Hua. I don't want to force him.'

Wushanju was solemn. Light rain companies the hush sobs of the resident. More people with black attire walked into the compound.

Wu Xie stared at the wall blankly, eyes swollen and nose red. He didn't want to hear or see anything. He didn't want to accept the reality. He's dreaming, he convinced himself over and over again.

Maybe it's not a dream after all since Zhang Qiling didn't answer his calls or reply to his messages.

'I'm sorry for your loss, Xiao Xie.'

Wu Xie remained still. What were they talking about? What loss? Wu Xie took a deep breath, clenching his trembling fists.

It must be a dream.

'Xiao Xie. I'm sorry for your loss.'

No. Wu Xie shook his head. It's a dream. No, it's a nightmare. It would end when he woke up.

'Wu Xie. I'm sorry for your loss.'

Wu Xie cried out loud, smacking his head angrily. This couldn't be true. Why did his yeye leave him so early? The old man promised him to see him graduate from university, to be there at his first job, to always be here for him.

'Xiao Xie! Oh, dear. Calm down.'

Wu Xie sobs loudly, leaning into his grandma's embrace. This must be a dream. He begged and begged but it was not a dream.

Wu Xie wiped his tears, feeling his eyes swell and his body was getting weak from the continuous cry. He leant against the wall weakly, still refusing to look at the room where the funeral was being held.

'Xiao Xie.' Wu Xie flinched but he didn't turn around.

'Come on now. Yeye doesn't want to see you like this.'

'What do you know!! You are never here! What do you know about yeye... what..' Wu Xie cried all night.

Zhang Qiling walked into the classroom, perplexed. Wu Xie's not there. He received Wu Xie's texts and calls but didn't have time to answer yesterday. So at night, he replied but there was no reply. Perhaps Wu Xie was asleep but there were unsettling feelings in his chest.

Wu Xie's late? Did he sleep in?

Zhang Qiling put his bag on the desk and then looked at Xie Yuchen. 'Where's Wu Xie?'

Xie Yuchen scoffed in disbelief. He turned around and huffed when he saw the clueless face.

'Are you kidding me?'

Zhang Qiling frowned. 'What?'

'Wu Xie's grandpa passed away yesterday. Didn't you know?'

Yesterday. That explained the numerous texts and calls. Zhang Qiling knew he messed up.

Wu Xie was not accepting the truth. His grandfather was not gone. He didn't understand what they were talking about. He could still hear his yeye woke him up this morning although he didn't sleep at all.

Zhang Qiling blinked as he almost bumped against someone. He eyed the man before dashing to the back courtyard.

Oh, how his heart broke when he saw his lover sitting on the porch, looking lifeless. Zhang Qiling slowly took a step toward Wu Xie.

'Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie blinked before smiling. Zhang Qiling was finally here. 'Xiaoge. What are you doing here?'

Zhang Qiling shook his head. He knew how much Wu Xie loved his grandpa. How close they were.

'Wu Xie.' He whispered and embraced the younger gently. Wu Xie couldn't help but break down again in his lover's arms. Each sob stabbed Zhang Qiling's heart. He should've come sooner. He should pay more attention.

'It's okay. It's okay, Wu Xie.' Zhang Qiling hugged Wu Xie tightly, murmuring sweet nothings while kissing his temple.

Wu Xie ended up falling asleep in Zhang Qiling's arms.

Zhang Qiling took the male to the bed once the latter had fallen asleep. He stared at the peaceful face, hating himself for not coming sooner. Wu Xie must be so alone. He heaved a sigh, brushing the fringes off Wu Xie's forehead and pressed a kiss there.

'I'm sorry, baby.'

'Ehem.'

Zhang Qiling turned around quickly. It's the man that he met at the front gate. Wu Xie's father, he presumed.

Zhang Qiling stood up, bowing politely.

'You must be Xiao Xie..'

'Friend.' He muttered.

'Boyfriend. Don't worry about it.'

Zhang Qiling nodded reluctantly.

'Well then. I hope you can persuade Wu Xie to move in with me. He can't stay here anymore. My mother alone cannot take care of her. I'll-'

'You will take care of Xiao Xie?' There came a woman's voice. Wu Xie's mother, Zhang Qiling guessed.

'What's wrong with it? My mom cannot take care of him anymore. She's old, she needs to rest. It's not like you want to take care of our son anyway.'

'Are you out of your mind? He's my son too! I said nothing because he wanted to stay here. I want to be a mother to him too.'

Zhang Qiling winced they started fighting. Wu Xie had just fallen asleep. Damn it. He turned around, sighing quietly.

Wu Xie's awake.

'Hey.' He took a seat next to his lover, kissing the crown of his head gently. Wu Xie looked at his parents before chuckling. Enough to catch their attention.

'I'm not going anywhere.'

'Wu Xie!'

'I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going to follow you two. I want to stay here.'

The adults were in disbelief. They knew how stubborn Wu Xie could be but..

'Xiaoge.' Wu Xie reached for Zhang Qiling's hand, leaning on the elder man's shoulder when he started to tear up again.

'Xiao Xie. Come on. You have to choose now.'

Wu Xie glared at his mother, shaking his head. Why couldn't they understand his choice? He didn't want to go. His Xiaoge would be here and he loved his grandma. He should stay there to help her.

Zhang Qiling squeezed Wu Xie's hand reassuringly, getting annoyed with the adult for their childish fight. They should respect Wu Xie's decision.

'Enough! Aren't you ashamed... on your father's funeral..  what's wrong with you two!'

'Nainai.' Wu Xie whimpered then burst into another tear. The old lady sighed, making her way to her only grandchild.

'My baby. Don't be sad. You can stay here as long as you want.'

Wu Xie nodded fast, content in Zhang Qiling and his grandmother's embrace.

It's time to leave. It is a quite plain event for Wu Xie. Perhaps because he didn't participate in any events. The conversation also is hard to keep up with. He glanced at his watch again as his phone beeped.

A text just comes in.

'Who is it?'

'My mom.'

'You didn't visit her?'

Wu Xie pouted. 'You know me too well, Xiao Hua. Aren't you going back too?'

'Yes. Let's just say goodbye to these guys.'

Wu Xie nodded and followed his friend to say goodbye. The goodbye kinda stretched to another short conversation. Wu Xie has to play along since it's rude to cut them off. He gives his best smile, exchanging the numbers with those who want. Honestly, Wu Xie knows they will not text each other. It's just out of courtesy but it's funny, really.

'Are you sure you can drive?'

'Xiao Hua, I only drink one glass. After that, I drink orange juice. Bet the guys want to laugh at me.'

Hei Xiazi chuckled then ruffled Wu Xie's hair.

'You have a pallet of a child.'

Wu Xie glared, huffing. 'Let's go now. I want to go home and sleep!'

After the passing of Wu Xie's grandpa, the male was not as cheerful as before. Zhang Qiling understood how much it had taken a toll on his lover. But slowly, Wu Xie came back to his old self again.

The college entrance examination was around the corner so Wu Xie decided he would mop after the tests.

Wu Xie hummed, swinging his legs in the air, laying on his stomach on Zhang Qiling's bed. As usual, they were studying together.

'Xiaoge. For this question, I have to use this formula right?'

Zhang Qiling nodded and reward Wu Xie with a kiss on the cheek. The latter giggled and butterflies fluttered in his tummy again.

'I think you're going to score higher than me, baby.'

Wu Xie almost squirmed out of embarrassment. He was still getting used to Zhang Qiling calling him 'baby'. It made him feel giddy.

So much in love.

'Hm. Really? Then, I'll score higher than you!' Wu Xie flipped to another page. He sat up abruptly as he was reminded of something.

'Xiaoge. I never ask you. What do you want to major in later? Which university do you want to go to?'

Wu Xie's heart suddenly clenched in pain. They never talked about this. What their future would be? They might be separated. Wu Xie didn't want their relationship to end. Never.

'I don't know.'

'Come on, Xiaogeeee.'

'Really. I don't know, baby.'

'Then let's enrol into the same university! Ahhh. How good that will be. I can be with you and oh oh, we can have a date like a couple in the drama.'

Zhang Qiling quirked into a soft smile then pulled Wu Xie into a kiss. Wu Xie was so adorable. Wu Xie whined into the kiss but reciprocate when the strong arms hauled him onto Zhang Qiling's lap. Wu Xie parted his lips, welcoming the naughty lips then rolled his hips. Zhang Qiling held Wu Xie's nape firmly, licking every corner of the wet cavern. Wu Xie whimpered, holding the hand that just crept into his shirt.

'Zhang- Ack! Sorry! I don't see anything!'

Wu Xie pulled away and gasped. That didn't sound like Liang Wan. He turned around and stilled.

Ah Ning? They were this close to the point of she dare coming into Zhang Qiling's room.

Wu Xie got off Zhang Qiling's lap quickly, gulping.

'Sorry guys.. I just need Zhang Qiling for a second.'

Zhang Qiling nodded and got off the bed.

'Wait a moment, Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie nodded, wondering why the girl needed his lover. He sighed out loud when they left.

It wasn't the first time. There were many times their plans were cancelled because of her. The girl looked like she had transferred to the school. She always popped up during recess and also when school ended. Wu Xie no longer could walk home with Zhang Qiling. Wu Xie was itching to know but he said nothing. Zhang Qiling also was not saying anything. So how could Wu Xie interrogate his lover? He knew it was Zhang Qiling's privacy but what about him? Didn't he deserve to know?

The town was bustling with people going back and forth. Some stalls were full with customer eating their lunch.

It's a date!

Last date before the big examination. Wu Xie was getting cold feet because for the first time he got serious about his study. He thought it was too late but all of his teachers said he had a chance to ace the exam. That's all thanks to his patient boyfriend. Wu Xie smiled at the memories of the first time Zhang Qiling taught him.

'Hm?'

'Huh?'

'You're smiling, Wu Xie. What is it?'

'Well. I just reminiscing about the first time you teach me. And also the first time we met. And also the time I followed you like a puppy until we became friends.'

'I never said you're a friend, baby.'

'Xiaoge! That's so mean.' Wu Xie huffed, taking a bite of the noodles. Zhang Qiling shook his head, loving Wu Xie's sulky face.

At first, he didn't know what to feel about this boy. The person that fell on him on the first day of school. He also witnessed him being lectured by the discipline teacher. This boy also followed everywhere like a puppy, pestering until he talked to him. It didn't start as hate, he was shocked, at least. Wu Xie was so bright than sunshine and when sunlight hit the innocent face, Wu Xie looked pretty more than ever. In just a blink of an eye, he fell in love. How, why, when? He couldn't answer that.

'Xiaoge. What.. what do you think will happen to us in the future?'

Wu Xie leant closer to Zhang Qiling as they walked down the street, pouting slightly at the silence.

'I want us.. to still be together.'

Zhang Qiling was still in silence. Wu Xie's eyes stung when tears brimmed in his doe eyes. He couldn't afford to lose someone he loved to death.

'Wu Xie.' Pause. 'We don't know the future but what is important is now. We have to cherish the present.'

Zhang Qiling wiped off the tears, kissing Wu Xie's forehead gently.

'I love you, Wu Xie.'

'I love you, Xiaoge.'

It's the day of the examination. Wu Xie was panicking the first thing in the morning but her grandma shoved the food into his mouth and gave him a lot of hugs and kisses and also words of encouragement. She knew her grandson better than anyone.

When Wu Xie started rambling and whining again, Zhang Qiling pulled him into a kiss.

Wu Xie sighed, hugging Zhang Qiling tight.

'We can do this, Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie nodded fast. 'We can. We can do this, Xiaoge.'

Wu Xie giggled when Zhang Qiling kissed him again. For good luck, he said.

The examination ended. Wu Xie lounged around in the serene Wushanju or hung out at Xie Yuchen's House.

Zhang Qiling?

The couple barely hang out since Zhang Qiling always had to go to another city. Wu Xie could only say 'take care, miss you, love you.' He wanted to spend time with his lover. They should be seeing each other since it's a long holiday. No more study, only waiting for his result.

Wu Xie hummed, putting down another book after yawning. That's the fifth book he finished reading this month. He grunted then sat up quickly. He's annoyed because Zhang Qiling hadn't texted him these past three days. How could someone be that busy? Should he visit him? Would that be rude?

Wu Xie pressed his palms on his face and then groaned out loud.

Knock knock!

Wu Xie gasped. Could it be-

'Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie huffed when the male walked in. Xie Yuchen raises his eyebrow.

'That's how you treat me now?'

'Xiao Huaaa. I thought it was Xiaoge. Humph.'

'He hasn't come?'

'Only twice after the exam. Now he doesn't text me or called me for three days already. I want to go to his house. Come with me?'

Xie Yuchen glanced at his friend wearily.

'I just came back from town.'

Wu Xie tilted his head. 'Oh. You must pass by his house right. Is anyone there?'

'Wu Xie.' Xie Yuchen sipped a deep breath. 'I don't know why he doesn't tell you but...'

Wu Xie's eyes widened. He got on his feet, running to the front courtyard.

No. No. No! Zhang Qiling couldn't do this to him!

'Wu Xie!'

Xie Yuchen shouted from behind but Wu Xie was too fast.

Wu Xie never cycled this fast. He almost ran into people and an electric pole. But he didn't care. All he care about now was Zhang Qiling. He wouldn't let Zhang Qiling leave like this. Wu Xie was too caught up with his thoughts that he didn't notice he should turn to the right. It was too fast that he fell.

'Fuck!' Wu Xie cursed out loud, glancing at the deep scratch on his arm before running ahead, leaving his bike behind.

The car was still there when Wu Xie arrived. The butler was loading the luggage into the boot. Where were they going?

Wu Xie's legs were heavy but he forced them to take another step. Closer and closer. His doe eyes were brimming with tears. Zhang Qiling walked to the car, pupils dilated when he saw his lover. He looked away and then put the box in the trunk.

Wu Xie wiped his tears. 'Xiaoge.' Oh, how his voice trembled.

'Where are you going?'

Zhang Qiling couldn't afford to hear the sobs and broken voice.

'Xiaoge! Don't ignore me!' Wu Xie grabbed Zhang Qiling's arm, begging for the truth. Zhang Qiling's eyes widened when he saw the wound on Wu Xie's arm. He grabbed it gently to inspect the wound but Wu Xie pulled away. The pain in his arm was nothing compared to his heart.

'Xiaoge!! Answer me! Where are you going? Where are you going.. are you leaving me? Please.. please tell me..'

Wu Xie hiccoughed, gripping Zhang Qiling's shirt as tight as he could so the male wouldn't slip away.

'Zhang Qiling. You-'

Wu Xie looked over the elder male's shoulder, shocked.

Ah Ning.

'Wu Xie.' Zhang Qiling cradled Wu Xie's cheek gently, wiping off the tears.

'Xiaoge.. what's the meaning of this?'

'Wu Xie.'

Wu Xie shook his head, gripping Zhang Qiling's wrist. 'No. No.. you can't leave me like this!'

'Wu Xie. Please.. I have to go.'

'Where? Why.. why do you have to go? What about us? How long will you be gone, Xiaoge?'

Wu Xie was almost hysterical.

'I don't know. I don't know how long.'

'Then I'll wait! I'll wait no matter how long it will be. I'll wait for you, Xiaoge. I love you, Xiaoge.'

'No. Don't. Don't wait for me. I will not wait for you, Wu Xie.'

That came like a punch to Wu Xie's gut, and the love in his heart shattered. Zhang Qiling pulled Wu Xie's hands off his shirt and turned around. Wu Xie watched the male get into the car. He remained unmoved when the car drove away.

Was goodbye had always been this easy?

Wu Xie laughed before collapsing to the ground, crying his heart out.

'Wu Xie!' Xie Yuchen ran to his friend and took the latter into his arms, hugging him tightly. Wu Xie wailed loudly, shaking his head in disbelief.

No way that was their ending.

'Wu Xie, let's go.'

Yes, he needs to go now. It's kind off passed the time limit he gave himself. He wants to go home and curl up on his fluffy bed already. Lucky tomorrow is still the weekend. He can sleep in again.

They finally bid a real goodbye and proceeds to walk out of the hall.

Before they can exit, the door is opened revealing a couple.

Wu Xie looks at the couple in front of him quietly. Is he shocked? Relief?

The man is still as handsome as he remembers. Jet black hair, dark black pearl eyes. He's dressed in black skinny jeans, a black turtleneck shirt and a grey trench coat on top to finish his look. There's a brief shimmering silver bracelet underneath the long sleeve that is unseen to the naked eyes. The girl beside him is as pretty as Wu Xie remembers. It has been ten years but Wu Xie still hears the same hush and murmurs.

Wu Xie lowers his head as he walks past the couple.

It has been ten years but Wu Xie's heart still beats for the same person.

Zhang Qiling.
