Work Text:
It was late. Not that she knew that. She hadn’t stopped for days.
Sitting in front of a screen, working away for many days or nights, she didn't know what time it was. The girl hardly stopped. It never felt productive, just like words felt long and sentences were choppy. Nothing fit together and nothing was ever finished. At least not well enough, as far as she was concerned.
Paper and textbooks stacked up beside her, mountains of unfinished work, not categorised, just messy stray notes and half-finished drafts. Even as she type, her hand cramped and eyes stung; she knew she wasn’t fast enough. This draft should have been completed an hour ago but she kept flicking back and forth. It was like the wall of text never expanded or improved; no matter how much she tried.
Her body cried, but was harshly ignored. Staying in this position every afternoon, once school had finished for hours on end, was becoming a habit, and it was taking its toll. It needed movement, food, and water. Yet, it was still stuck to the chair.
Another unseeable factor of her stress was she was unconsciously ignoring something else other than her body and mind.
Her boyfriend.
Of course, that wouldn’t be true for long.
All the words seemed to blur in front of her and she couldn’t keep up. Her mind was dry of motivation and rather spun insults that crushed her heart. Hiding her face in her hands, she let out a few raggy breaths. Then her back became warm.
“What’s wrong, my flare?”
At first, she thought it was her ears that had tricked her. Giving her false hope. Though, when she spun to look behind her, his grinning face was there. Leaping forwarding, she wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face in his chest. Instinctively, he hugged back as his body warmed up from the new proximity.
“Hi, Heath.” her voice was muffled.
She let out a long sigh before pushing off him and sitting back on her rolling chair. It was hard for Heath not to notice what had been happening to his girl for the past few days. The state of her room added to that sentiment.
She continued half heartily, “Just burnout,” before staring at the screen in a daze. A hand gripped the side of the chair, spinning it around, as a warm finger pressed under her chin; forcing her to look up.
“If that’s the case, I could easily spark you back up.” Winking, his hair became a flame as she stared wide-eyed into his white depths. He leaned in, causing her eyelids to flutter shut while two hot hands held her hips.
No contact came as she felt herself being pulled off the chair a laid on her bed. Snapping her eyes open, she found Heath smirking at her. Before she could even ask, he disappeared out of the room with only a ‘Wait there’ as a condolence.
In seconds he was back, a tray of freshly made food and a large glass of water with a fashion bag hanging around his elbow. After sitting up, Heath laid the tray on her lap before pressing a quick kiss to her cheek. The food was a rich takeaway, which she enjoyed immensely, and she turned to thank him.
Her words were cut short as hot lips pressed into hers. His hand rubbed her back as he pushed forward to deepen the kiss. As they broke for air, he handed her a light pink from one of her favourite fashion stores.
He waved away her confused expression and gave a wink as he spoke, “I think you may have forgotten, but I never forget important things; if there about you.”
Opening the bag, she found a limited time top that she had been dying to get. Unfortunately, the amount of work and stress she had been caught under made it drift out of her mind. Tears welled in her eyes, and before Heath could freak, her arms tightly wrapped around his neck. A sputter of ‘thank yous’ fanned against his shoulder, making his hair light up and cheeks turn cherry.
“No problem, hottie, but there is one thing you need to pay me back.”
Letting go of the hug, she furrowed her eyebrows at him as she stood up. He rested a hand against the headboard and leaned down to be level with her.
With each word, he let his lips brush against hers. “We’ve got a lot of lost time to make up for.” In response, the girl place her palm on his nape and pulled him in full for a kiss. The food turned cold, and the assignment wasn’t completed that night, but that was the least of her worries.
