Work Text:
Twilight sighed as he exited the train, a large baggage on his right hand and his lover’s hand on the other.
“Finally we’re here” The woman on his left chuckled “You should go rest once we arrive at the hotel”
“I think I’ve had enough rest during our journey on the way here” Twilight smiled softly, leading his partner along the station to their next destination. “Olive, I know how much you’ve worked hard on planning this trip, you deserve a little break too” His lover said, squeezing his hand softly, her hazel eyes looking at him in concern.
Wait, hazel eyes? Olive?
That’s right he was no longer Loid Forger. Operation Strix had ended exactly 23 months and 6 days ago. He left the home he had built for a year during midnight, when his so-called family was sleeping. He could only assume what happened after he left, Yor probably thought he left early for his work and started worrying when he didn’t come back for dinner. He imagined Anya staying up the whole night to wait for him, only to be met with disappointment.
He didn’t know what else had happened after that, he didn’t bother asking Handler since the mission was over, it was none of his business anymore, Loid Forger was just another torn page in his book of lies. He could only assume that Loid was reported missing to the police or WISE had faked his death and held a sorrowful funeral for him.
“Olive, should we call a taxi?” The woman on his left said, tugging his sleeve. “I think we should walk instead, the hotel isn't that far from here” Twilight replied, looking around him “ah- unless you’re getting tired we can call for one of course..!”
“Nono, I’d like to walk there too, then we’d get to see Berlint with our own eyes” She giggled, playfully leaning on his shoulder with a small hint of red on her face. “I’d like that.” Olive laughed, a blush complimenting his smile.
Twilight had been assigned a mission. He was assigned to gather information about an infamous politician, which might be related to starting a war between Westalis and Ostania. For that he had been in a relationship with the politician’s daughter, Lucy Peters. From the two months they had been together, he had managed to learn quite a few about Mr. Peters, his target.
To him, this was a mission, but to Lucy, this was a sweet and romantic love story about the two of them. Of course she didn’t know he was a spy; to her, Twilight was her soulmate and lover. She’s absolutely infatuated and in love with him. That fact might have made it easy to gather information as she could and would tell him anything, but no. Lucy absolutely hated her father and didn’t bother to talk about him to Twilight not even once or twice.
He had to even go as far as to seduce her in hopes of her venting about her father to him after their sweet love making. But boy he was wrong.
Now he hopes that this trip to Ostania would help her open up to him. And of all places it had to be Berlint, the very place where Operation Strix had started and ended.
“Finally!” Lucy plopped on the soft bed the moment they entered their hotel room. “Seems like you’re way more tired than I am” Olive chuckled, sitting down next to where Lucy laid. His lover hugged his waist, grumbling something. “What was that love?” Olive smiled, his hands finding its way on her strawberry blonde hair, stroking it softly.
“Oliver Wagner, come here and cuddle with me right now. That’s a command!” Lucy demanded with a pout. Twilight would have ignored her and left her right there and then, but no, he was Oliver Wagner, a loving partner to Lucy Peters. He wanted to frown, but he smiled at her lovingly and chuckled, spooning her frame and planting small kisses on her face.

“Thwese tais so gwood!” Lucy managed to say, mouth filled with cake. “C’mon Lucy, I don’t want you dying on me right now” Oliver chuckled, wiping cake crumbs off his girlfriend’s lips and cheeks with his handkerchief. “You should try it too, here!” She pushed the slice of cake to his side of the table, into which he gladly took a spoonful of.
Oliver feigned a surprised face, “They do taste really delicious” I had already tasted this cake on one of my dates with Yor. Twilight was shocked at himself, why must he think about her right now? He shook those thoughts away, focusing on the mission in front of him.
“Olive, we should go check out the mall after this, is that alright?” Lucy said, finishing the last of her iced coffee. “Yes.. We should,” Oliver said, now remembering the time he took Yor to the mall for their date. Lucy smiled, standing up from her seat. Twilight barely had time to register what was happening before he heard his name being called from the cafe’s door.
“Oliver?” Lucy called as her lover quickly stood up and walked to her. “They didn’t seem to add much caffeine into your coffee huh?” She laughed, wrapping her hands around his arm. “Yes, perhaps..” Olive smiled as they exited the cafe.
“Look! Look! Can I go there? Pleasee” Lucy whined like some kid who wanted to buy a toy, referring to some store that sold expensive women’s clothing, mostly undergarments and lingerie. Olive hesitated for a moment before saying “Go ahead, I don’t mind. I’m not going in there though.”
Lucy looked him in the eyes as if she couldn’t believe what she was hearing, “I’ll wait for you here, I won’t leave.” Olive assured her with a smile. She then turned on her heel to the store, sending a small thank you on the way.
Twilight sighed, green eyes scanning his surroundings. What are the chances of people recognizing him as Loid Forger? He might not be wearing a mask but he had green eye contacts on, though he doubted that would make much of a difference. This situation wasn’t what he prepared for, he wasn’t expecting to go back to Berlint at all. And what if he runs into Yor or Anya?
He’d be lying if he said he didn’t miss the two girls. There wasn’t a day where he never thought about them, how they’re doing, and what they’re doing. He wondered if Anya’s grades improved in school, or if she had made any new friends. Loid would smile at the thought. He even wondered if Yor had found a new man, someone that would treat her way better than he did, love her and care for her more than he.
That thought alone drowned Twilight in a series of feelings he couldn’t understand. Was it sadness? Anger? Jealousy?
He should be happy if she really did find someone else, someone that will truly love her, someone that has genuine feelings for her and is willing to spend his whole life with her. That someone should be me. Twilight’s eyes widened at his own thoughts, shaking his head slightly, he looked at the crowd around him again, hoping it would distract him from these dreadful thoughts.
There he saw it, red eyes that belonged to the person he had been dreaming about for the past two years, the one his heart longed for so badly. Twilight froze, finding himself paralized at the sight. There was Yor, standing right in front of the shop beside the one Lucy was in, her face completely unbothered. It looked like she was waiting for something, but that wasn’t his main concern right now.
He wanted to approach her, talk to her, hug her, maybe even kiss her and tell her he’s sorry. He felt his eyes sting the longer he stared at her. No. he shouldn’t, he wasn’t Loid Forger anymore.
“Yor! Sorry to keep you waiting..” A voice said. Twilight’s depressing thoughts came to an end when Yor’s figure was blocked by another. The new person had a tall structure and messy golden hair. “It’s fine! No problem at all” Yor had spoken to the unknown man, her voice replaying over and over in Twilight’s mind after not seeing her for so long.
The man moved a bit, Twilight can see their faces now. Yor was smiling at the man, pink dusting her cheeks. The spy clenched his fists, eyes now on the other guy. He admits that the man was quite attractive, and he absolutely hated it.
He fucking hated it. He hated the new guy and how close he was to Yor and he has no fucking idea why. Why was he experiencing this out of all times? Grief, sadness, anger, and envy swallowed him all at once, landing on a heavy pang on his chest. He wanted to break down right there and then, he wanted to close his eyes and hope all of this was a dream, waking up in his wife’s arms and the sound of Spy Wars playing in the background, with Anya snoozing softly right beside Bond on the living room floor.
“Olive! I’m back, I hope I didn’t make you wait that long. So many items were on sale ugh, I should have bought extra cash..” Lucy’s voice suddenly invaded his thoughts, bringing him back to reality “Olive..? Oh my god are you okay?!”
Twilight blinked, suddenly realizing there was a tear down his cheek. “I’m- I’m fine.. An insect just got in my eye, sorry for worrying you.” He quickly said, wiping his face with his sleeve. Lucy looked at him in concern “Are you sure? We can go back to the hotel and rest if you want..”
He hesitated, thinking about it “Yes please, I’m sorry again.. I guess all the fatigue had finally caught up to me” Oliver murmured.
“Alright then.. You should really stop overworking yourself. Is there anything you need? I can buy it for you”
“No no… I just really need some rest right now” He tried to smile, but failed, his thoughts falling back to Yor and the man.
What he really needs right now is Yor Briar, and that man to get the fuck away from her. Is he seriously acting this way to his (ex and fake) wife after leaving her without a word? He really is a hopeless case.
To him, home is where Yor is.
And right now, he is very far from home.
