Pages Between Us

Summary:

Just a poem I wrote, from young Harry's perspective, about when he must have started writing about Lou.

Notes:

Work Text:

You wrote your name down

Right next to mine

Leaving smeared ink blotches

On pristine sheets

Of my shrined heart

Your eyes crinkled as you laughed

My face was flushed, heated at your proximity

Like a deer in lights

The boy inside the snow globe, I watched you.

You were warm sunlight, melting the ice

Thawing on the apples of my cheeks

Your caress soft

Your hands scraping against the rough sheets.

Your eyes a gentle blue

Twinkling soft sweet poems at me

I'm floating in the Mediterranean

You anchor me,

Light me up, Turn me golden.

I pen down words about those eyes, that wind blown fringe

My heart in its tangles.

The words look pretty, running together

(Like I want to with you)

But they don't look pretty enough

So I cut some corners, sharpen some edges

Turn it just that tad bit messier

It looks real now

Like you are

But it's not you on paper

It does not hold your light

Or your laughter

Or your touch

It doesn't hold me, the way you do.

So now I scribble about me

Me of you

And you bleed onto the sheets anyway

Like you do into the way I dress

Or sit, or laugh

I don't try to erase it.

There's a voice that says I can't create art

Art without you in it.

It sounds like my mum.

So I put my heart down,

Violet indigo and blue and pink

Flamingoes and bunnies

Sunflowers and home

I put me between those pages

And I sing them to you,

Hand out my heart.

Palm to palm.

Melody to melody.

And in all those pages between us, there is me

Of you.
