Chapter Text

When Alma woke up, she felt like something was wrong. Her room looked the same but didn’t feel the same. Did the magic die again? Alma thought to herself and asking herself why things didn’t feel right.

“Maybe Bruno will know…” She said to herself.

She thought maybe I shouldn’t, she didn’t want to lose her baby again. But if something is wrong…that’s it. She had to ask. She walked over to the door. Maybe I shouldn’t. But I need to. As she was turning the doorknob to go ask him, she heard crying…babies crying. There’s no babies in casita. She waited awhile to see if someone would grab the babies to stop them from crying. No one did. She sighed before opening the door. When she opened the door, she wasn’t in casita anymore. She was in the small home her and Pedro lived in. She walked towards the room; she knew her babies were in. There was someone in the room trying to calm down one of their babies.

“Está bien…shh…shhh… todo está bien.” The man said.

“Pedro?” Alma asked.

The man turned around holding their only son. It was Pedro. Is this a dream? It feels too real to be a dream

“He won’t stop crying. I tried everything.” Pedro said as he was rocking their baby boy in his arms.

Alma wondered if her baby has always been troubled with his gift of foresight.

“Give me him.” Alma said as she held her arms out.

Pedro handed her their baby…her Brunito.

“Oh, my Brunito, ¿Qué te preocupa?” Alma asked.

She went over to sit at the rocking chair. She stared at her son’s eyes. So sad and tired even at that young age. Like he knew something bad was going to happen before it did. Before he even got his gift of foresight. Like he knew his papa wouldn’t be with him…them forever. After a while, Alma looked back at Pedro.

“I failed them, Pedro. I failed him. He was just a child. I should have never put all that pressure and expectations on him.” Alma said as she looked back at her son.

“No entiendo lo que quieres decir.” Pedro said as he grabbed Alma’s hand.

“I only saw his gift. I didn’t see him. I should have seen how much he was hurting. How much of his pain was caused by me.” Alma said.

“Gift? Amor, you are a great mamá.” Pedro said.

“I’m not, Pedro. A good mamá wouldn’t have done what I did.” Alma said.

“Lo siento mucho, Brunito.” Alma said as she held her baby boy closed.

Alma closed her eyes before kissing her baby’s forehead.

“Mamá…can we talk?” Alma heard Bruno say followed by knocking.
