Chapter Text
“Absolutely not!”
XD was rightfully furious,
Dream,
His dearest little brother,
Had been to the mortal realm. Not to do his job, not to visit the temple, but to play with mortals. Normally this wouldn’t make him as mad but he had already lectured Dream on the matter, and yet he did it again.
Twice
“No, Dream, You are not allowed to go back to the mortal realm, that is final. You’ve done it three time now and that's just what I know of. Who knows how many times you’ve actually managed to sneak off to those mortals. You are not to leave this room unless I tell you too and with my supervision, Is that clear?”
“But-” Dream began to protest.
“Is That Clear? XD repeated, voice booming.
“Yes sir” Dream muttered, eyes looking down in defeat.
“You and I both know we’re not supposed to interact with mortals. Now go get ready for bed”, and before Dream could question anything he spoke again.
“Dinner will be brought up to your room, now go”
With that XD left . He briefly saw Dream heading to the closet. At least he was obeying him now.
He was starting to get extremely concerned with Dream’s efforts to visit the mortal world.
He knew his brother better then anyone else, and that was the problem. Because he knew his brother so well he knew that Dream never left things alone once he was inverted, and he was certainly invested in it.
It seems they were going to need a talk.
______________
“Dream,” XD knocked.
“Go away,” He heard from the other side of the door.
“Dream we need to have a talk” He said while opening the door.
XD opened the door to Dream on his bed crisscross while pouting and if you listened closely you could hear muffled sniffles.
“Dream-”
“No!, Leave me alone.”
“Dream you know I can’t do that.”
“Fine, What do you want” He finally conceded letting XD ask his question.
“Why are you interested in the mortal world.” XD asked holding a neutral expression an dif you looked close enough you could spot concern within his eyes.
Dream however wasn’t really focused on that instead busy trying to comprehend what he had just been asked.
“What,” Dream said without thinking
“I said-,”
“No I heard you just confused, why do you want to know?”
“I asked first.”
“Fine, it’s because it’s exciting, new, extraordinary, everything I want, it doesn't have stuffy gods and strict rules to follow. Its a playground, free and full of adventures and new toys to play with. To me it’s a wonderland, people there don’t shun me and they aren’t scared of me either. It’s just.. pure bliss.” Dream finally finished, eyes sparkling from just thinking about it.
“Dream you do know gods ca-
“I know!, but.. like. What if I wasn’t a god,” Dream said cutting him off.
“Excuse me” XD was bewildered, what as this nonsense of not being a god he knew Dream was one if anything.
“I mean what if-,” Dream paused then began again.
“What if I was a mortal,” Dream finally finished.
“What!” XD exclaimed, he didn’t know how to react. Either Dream was implying something he definitely didn’t like or he was just secretly mortal, which he know wasn’t true.
So that left the former.
XD prepared himself and straightened himself up then began again, “Apologies say that again, I believe I misheard you.”
“What if I was a mortal” Dream repeated.
“Dream you do realize are a god, albeit a very young god, but a god none the less”XD stated, hoping it was maybe just insomnia or insanity that had led Dream to believing he was mortal.
“XD! You know what I mean. I want to be mortal, I want to go to the mortal realm and I want to give up my title!” XD was in shock and furious. Still he tried to keep his composer.
“Dream you know you can NOT become mortal. And giving up your title are you absurd.”
“No XD, you of all people know it’s possible. And it’s what I want not you and it is definitly not your title to tell me what to do with it”
XD was in fact reaching his limit when it came to Dream. He knew he couldn’t talk him out of it now. He didn’t want to but if he goes through with it… ..
He would need to, even he had a limit and Dream wanting to leave was pushing it.
_______________
XD left, he opened the door and just left. Dream was very confused. He hoped it wasn’t XD giving him the silent treatment. All he wanted was a little freedom and thrill… and friends. But he didn’t mean to lash out.
Ughhh, now he felt bad, but on the other hand, he really wanted to go to the mortal realm, live a normal life and have mortal friends. He just wants to live a little. He knows XD will try to stop him, he knows he won’t get his dream unscathed but all that matters now is that he gets the supplies for the ritual, it’ll hurt more since it wasn’t a direct transfer and the energy would slowly pull and put itself back together after the separation. Aside from that he is ready to go, now all he needs is to do it before XD gets back.
______________-
Dream got to work that night and over the course of a few days, XD had come to visit once, but it was easy enough pretending to be mad at him and hopefully keeping him away for a few more days, but Dream could only hope.
After those few days of material gathering and lies, he set up the ritual with calk, he drew a large circle, inscribing many things in galactic, a few he didn’t understand, just coping off the book. Once he was finished setting up and double checking his work he deemed himself ready.

XD was currently sitting on a bench in the palace garden. He was trying to find a way to coax Dream into talking with him or at least eating his meals. It had already been two days
It had already been two days with little to no word from Dream aside from a scowl. He couldn’t say if he was more concerned for Dream or what he was planning. Even so it didn’t matter. He still needed to talk to Dream regardless of what he was planning.
That was until a large riple of energy hit him, then another and later another. He was bewildered and worried, because it could either be an intruder or Dream. And he really hoped it wasn’t the latter.
So in a flash XD was in front of Dream’s room. He could already tell what Dream had done. He bust through the door, he saw Dream sitting on his knees in the middle of a large circle of chalk. He absently prayed that whatever Dream had done didn’t work. But the minute he noticed the lack of energy coming from Dream he knew. His worst nightmares had come true. A pang of anger and grief hit him like a hurricane.
His little brother..
No… ..
Dream.. ..
was...
Mortal
